    This is a card I'm constantly analyzing whether or not it's worth it for me or not. There are so many great options out there these days, but for me, this card continues to make sense with how high I value Amex points and how much value I get from the credits. Great stuff here Daniel!! 👊🏼

    The Amex Gold card is one of those cards that is GREAT card depending on who you are. With the SUB, it's always worth it in year 1 regardless of the credits. The big question is what happens after that, as you pointed out, because then it may not be worth it for some people. It definitely sounds like this card is worth it for you! Thanks for sharing your experience Daniel!!

      You have to compare it to other options. Especially in travel and past the initial bonus. There are better cards out there for me for sure. Hell, when I opened my Chase card, I got $1200 just from the bonus alone. Plus a ton more perks in general.
      I think I'm gonna get the Venture X now though as it currently beats all the travel cards for me. I already get 6% back on groceries and minimum 3% back literally everything (no AF) so the Amex gold wouldn't offer me much.

Great video as always Daniel!

    For me the Amex gold is a no brainer. Got the Amex gold in August and so far it’s great. I live in NYC and I Uber and order food almost once a week. The benefits are extremely easy for me to use. That Uber credit in conjunction with the Uber one benefit complimentary from the savor one card is great. I also eat out maybe 2-3 times a months so 4x back on restaurants is great. I also food shop based on what I like and not what’s on sale so I end up spending a lot food shopping.

  • @sjg6158
    @sjg6158 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    Inflation has definitely pinched the value of the Gold Card over the past few years, especially with Uber costs rising and food costs rising. The dining credits don't allow for nearly as much value now as they used to. I used to eat at the Cheesecake Factory quite a bit (or take out from there), but the portions are now half the size and price / dish way up. So, the $10 monthly credit is not nearly as valuable as it was.
    Excellent video as usual. AMEX definitely tightened up their requirements, etc.

    • @kerrydaniels8460
      @kerrydaniels8460 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dining doesn't cover annual fee. There are just better travel cards out there. Amex gold is definitely overrated. Especially with the way those takeout apps are marked up even from what the restaurant actually charges.
      Then you got extra fees on top the EXTRA food mark ups. So it eats up value while not covering AF with dining anyhow. I'm gonna pass. Better cards out there with better perks.

    I wish AMEX would improve the list of retailers on the dining credit. Unfortunately none of those really make sense for me either, and that’s stopped me from getting it. But I love the bonus and earning categories, and hopefully one day that’s dining credit is a bit better!

      I just pickup Uber eats and Grubhub orders to use the credits. And if you pick them up you avoid delivery fees. You do pay a 20% premium on prices typically but you can find deals like buy one get one meals occasionally.

      I had one year of monthly dining credits on my Delta card that could be used anywhere. These were the temporary credits that Amex was giving to Delta and Hilton cardholders during the pandemic. The Amex Gold card just ain’t for me. Yeah I like the SUB and the elevated categories but I basically have no way of eating (no pun intended) the annual fee. Dining credit is too limited and I don’t use Uber at all, let alone at least once a month. Not only that, I spend a bunch at Target and Walmart because it’s way cheaper so the grocery category is useless in my case. On paper this card is great for everyone but in practice is can fall apart

      Same here. I would consider the card if you could use the dining credit at more restaurants (including those booked on their Resy platform). I use Lyft a lot and don't use Uber at all. Therefore, I would rather do the SavorOne for the 3x points on dining (or use a Chase Sapphire Preferred), groceries, and entertainment, and transfer the points to the Venture X.

    This card stayed in my wallet for the first three years, but this year I did decide to close it and move to the Capital One Savor card.
    The main reason for the switch is that we purchased season tickets to our local MLS team so that $11,000 using the Savor card at 4% is a pretty good benefit. I didn’t use all of the AMEX credits, and I found myself using Uber only to use the credits. And on the Savor card I get the Uber one $10 credit and then I get 10% back if I decide to use Uber. We average $1.2k monthly on groceries and between $9k-$10k a month using the Savor and Venture X combo. It's a solid setup!

    Hey my friend. I’ve been thinking about this one a lot. I find the dining credit at best inconvenient, and at worst a complete loss. If I have to change my plans to get to a Shake Shack, a place I rarely went before I got the Gold, then the card is driving my life - not good. I don’t live in a city, so rarely take Ubers, and Uber Eats, even if I pick up the order is more expensive than ordering directly from the restaurant. So, I’m not getting the Amex-stated value of those credits. So, I’m leaning toward canceling at renewal time. There are too many solid options out there for food without playing Amex’s coupon game. Hope your spring/summer is going great!

    Recently got pre-approved for Amex Gold with 90000 welcome bonus after spending 4000$ plus 200$ hotel statement credit for the first year. Yet ended up opening CSP.
    Because of having Amex BCP which gives me 6% on grocery and 3% on gas and transit and CFU which gives me 3% on dining and 1.5% on everything else opening Amex Gold was a bad decision for me since 4% on grocery and dining is not useful at all with my setup and I barely take uber or go to shake shack.
    I think this is a excellent card if it’s perks work for you and you don’t have cards with similar features otherwise what I’ve seen with most of my friends is that you get it for a year or two and end up closing it cause it doesn’t make sense anymore.

    Is there a certain card someone should be aiming for like a rewards card before they go for the Amex Gold just to get that sign up bonus first and then get the Gold? Since if you get the Gold you can go backwards

    Daniel I have a beginner college student question. I applied for a capital one savor one credit card less than 24 hours ago but got a response saying I was denied, so I then applied for a discover student cash back card which was approved. after being approved by discover, I got an email from capital one saying that they ended up approving me for the savor one card as well. I know that canceling cards can negatively impact my credit score but will that still happen even if I have never activated or used any other credit card before (so my utilization ratio will remain the same)? what do you advise I do, thank you in advance!

    It's been 6 months for me. I got a 80K bonus but have not used any of the perks since I don't live in a big city and rarely go to restaurants. Not sure if I can get value just from the 4* grocery and I travel/fly only 1 or 2 a year for now. THinking of closing it at the end of the year and getting a Venture X, at least I would get use of the lounges which I don't get with A gold

      It’s not given to you in a lump sum.
      It’s a credit of $10 per month if you used the card that month for Uber or participating dining services.
      So if you don’t use it during that month, you don’t get it. The credit doesn’t roll over to the next month

    Don't be fooled by the 4X points. The redemption value is only 0.7 cents per point for most purchases. So really you are only getting 2.8 cents back which may be lower after the 10 dollar fee (assuming you use 240 dollars of dining credit)
