I did the same thing. Got the new color and activated the credits. There is an STK within driving distance. I can put those Resy credits to good use. I just wished more of those were offered instead of the Dunkin credit.
If you have to go out of your way to use any credits to justify/rationalize the annual fee, the card isn’t for you. You’re still directly technically paying the $250/$325 fee. If you naturally use Resy/eat at eligible restaurants, drink coffee a couple times a month, use Uber/eats etc. then this makes sense as its natural spending you make anyways and actually get it back.
For regular people, I would say save 300 dollars and get something like citi custom cash (no annual fee with even better multipliers ) and you don’t have to jump through all the hoops with credits. Same goes for platinum unless you travel a lot.
Tbh I was thinking the same thing but I’m keeping it. It’s basically the same dining and Uber credits. Now you just have to use Resy two times. They have nice restraints near me and that puts me at $340. I come out positive. Before, I was down $10. ($240 vs $250) The Dunkin credit is a joke…. I’m not going into that place.
Important to note that the annual fee hits on the statement following your renewal date! When my Hilton Biz renewed the annual fee hit on the following statement after the cutoff despite my renewal date being prior to the cutoff. Thanks for all of the deep dives Sebby!
I should receive my White Gold design on August 2nd. Although I live between the Washington, DC & Baltimore metro areas, there aren’t too many Resy choices.
increased annual fee is gonna suck, but mine just renewed this month... and the credits are a huge W for me. I use my credits for pickup at local restaurants, and there's a dunkin drive through right down the street, so now I get to enjoy a free coffee and donut once a month.
Great rundown as always, Sebby. I have the card. Ordered the white gold as soon as I saw the option earlier today. I will definitely make use of the Resy credit as I do eat out quite a bit on weekends. I rely on Resy to find new and trending places here in LA. the Dunkin’ credit is not useful for me, but I do use all $240 of the dining and Uber credits, so should be a net positive for me even with the higher annual fee - which for me won’t hit until 2025. So definitely keeping my gold card as my day to day workhorse card. Not a huger spender, but I do spend $1k/mo or more on dining so love the 4x boost to my horde of MR points.
My thing to watch out for or factor into the credit calculation is how much do you overspend maximizing the credits. $50 Resy credit at some of those restaurants will by you an appetizer or half of one entree. And the Dining and UberEats credits I always go over. The question you have to ask yourself, if you are trying to watch your budget is would you have gone out to eat (or ordered pickup) regardless if you have this card or not. Good review though Sebby, never disappoint with your analysis!

So excited about this refresh. The card goes from a $10 fee that makes sense with enough spend to a net profit before spend, plus great multipliers. I probably won’t be picking up the White Gold color, though. Happy with the regular gold and rose gold.

the new credits actually made it a better card for me. I will use the 5guys credit.. even if it is expensive it can make for a "cheap meal". $10 credit when the meal is $16.. thats a win. The increased annual fee along with the coupon book style of savings no longer makes this card worth it for me. Canceling for sure once my renewal date comes up.
I think the issue with Amex lately is that more and more companies/stores are not accepting Amex anymore due to the high fees. If it gets to a point where I can’t use my Amex card more and more, I will cancel. What’s the point in having it in that case?

I will keep my Amex Gold card.Im glad I can use my dining credit at 5 Guys.😊 Not many Dunkin stores here in NorCal.Maybe I can use that credit when I travel.
Not sure the Dunkin’ credit is in line with the idea that this is a premium product. Going to try and see if it allows a gift card reload to count as the 7$ and hoard 😂. I think the 50$ Resy is going to be easy to use and makes sense. I will probably be renewing the card next year.

3. If I had the card with the $250 annual fee, I’d keep it and consider canceling at time of renewal.
I'm keeping it. There is a dunking and five guys near me. I use Uber. Not sure about the resy credit, but I may try it out.
My renewal is on October 11, 2024. Just asked a rep how much I will be charged. She said I will renew at $250. And on October 11, 2025 it will increase to $325. Not too sure if she made a mistake, but luckily the chat is logged and I can use it a supporting docs if Amex charges me $325
🍩 I’ll stick with my Savor One or Freedoms. The amount of hoops to jump through to get 1X more back is just ridiculous at this point
I will keep my Amex Gold card.Im glad I can use my dining credit at 5 Guys.😊 Not many Dunkin stores here in NorCal.Maybe I can use that credit when I travel.
🍩
Thank you sir!
I really enjoy your videos!
Please continue the great work!
However, coffee is still disgusting! 😅
Not sure the Dunkin’ credit is in line with the idea that this is a premium product. Going to try and see if it allows a gift card reload to count as the 7$ and hoard 😂. I think the 50$ Resy is going to be easy to use and makes sense. I will probably be renewing the card next year.
