he is dead on correct. GTO is sound.., in a vacuum. Some players are profitable without it. GTO can over focus some into a robotic style and can lose some of the feel and detailed nuances of live play
He's smart enough to know that any player can be exploited in the right spots, and he's played enough poker to know how to take advantage of it. His results back up what he says.
His results are somewhat less impressive when you realise he super-used, assembled a stable of colluding cheats to bum hunt his 'friend', and is generally a cnut. Why bother studying when you can cheat, right? Throw in a bit of cult like control-freakary and an uncanny ability to read someone's skype on a remote laptop, and that's your recipe for success right there.
Apparently you can also gain an edge over GTO players by playing two stacks on a final table
