- The top electric surfboard brand "ESurf" came out to Maui to let me ride their latest and greatest creation. I tried to find its limits and there was so much more I discovered it could do that I couldn't have imagined.
Its not the most traditional surfboard shape but is designed to makes waves where there are non. A super cool experience and I'm stoked to gain another perspective on the water.
ESurf Details:
- At full throttle the battery lasted 45 min
- Max speed is 65 kmh or 40 mph
- 2.5 hours to charge to battery
- Board weight 9kg or 19 lbs
- Battery weight 15 kg or 33 lbs
- Board length 170 cm or 5'5"
- Board Width 60 cm or 23.6 inches

Wow. Loved the duck diving ability. Now ask them to make it in an actual surfboard shape.
Free the tether. I ride electric skateboards, my arms go wherever I want. Surfers need this freedom/control more than I do. Great vid. I want one of these.

Problem is, wireless controls barely work underwater, and don't work at all through a water/air barrier, so you would need a much larger displacement board so that it is always floating at least partially above water.

Needs a chut off mate for when you fall. You'll lose an expensive board real fast if there is any kind of fault.

How come the controller isn't wireless? That cable would annoy me after a while.
I tried a different brand, and with the throttle the board have, it's kinda nice to be able to hold onto something. You can basically put your whole body weight on the cable connecting the controller to the board, making you more in control of the board.

Wireless does not work well underwater. There would be no functionality when duck diving or cruising underwater like he did in the video. Radio waves (wifi and Bluetooth) travel very slow through water.
@@twinmike1 They don't travel slow. They just don't travel at all through salt water at the normal high frequencies we use (2.4Ghz, 5.xGhz etc). The attenuation of 2.4Ghz through salt water is -700dBm per meter, while the signal power for a bluetooth signal is no more than +20dBm, which means its effective range underwater is about 2.8cm or a little over 1 inch.

You definitely could try it once. I am not seeing how you would self rescue once you’ve wiped out and the board has been taken by the wave and smashed on the rocks, or washed up on the beach.

There’s ones for 12-15k…actually not bad considering costs of jet skis/sea-doos…tons of people buying those w/o hesitation…then there’s all the Sport boats/wakeboard boats$$$$.
If you have a wakeboard/snow board background, IMO one of these electric boards are an awesome cross trainer. I’m selling my boat soon and seriously considering getting electric board.

Looks peaceful and serene in this video. Now imagine 100’s of these swarming every inch of every coast line by individuals that have very little ocean knowledge or waterman skills. The future of surfing is looking pretty bleak. I can’t imagine this will be a good thing for aquatic lifeforms either.

Interesting that Kai chose to ride this goofy while he (I think) is a natural regular foot. I wonder what his thinking was about that choice? Ofc, he can ride anything however he wants and does it well.

I have built several electric bikes/motorcycles with pedals, it's a gray area..But those electric surf boards are over $10,000 dollars, and I probably can't build one unfortunately, so I'm out of luck, with just about everyone else on Earth..Awesome video though..

sounds like its way overbuilt too big heavy battery it could b just as fun at 25 min use with 30mph max and b a lot lighter
my sur ron 60 ah battery weighs 38 lbs and can go over 40 miles seem half of that would b fine at 19 lbs
