May in Germany is as good as summer. High temperatures and a lot of sun is pretty normal around May, but the prices for hotels and dorms are a bit cheaper than in summer or around Christmas. So if you want sunny days in Germany, but are on a budget, May is the right month for you. When you travel at the end of May, you can also catch the beginnings of strawberry season! Especially around smaller towns in mid-Germany there will be a lot of strawberry fields where you can harvest them and pay for what you check out. As kids, we would eat our fill while our parents harvest strawberries for pastries and cakes. Most farmers allow kids to snack without paying, but it is common courtesy to pay a bit more when you bring your hungry kids.
It's the third consecutive weekend when I am binge watching all your videos. You keep it simple and informative, and that is probably the USP of your vlogs.
I was in West Berlin/East Berlin in 1987 before the wall came down in 1989. Got lost and wound up at Check Point Charlie on the east side. That was an incredible experience for sure!
i live in berlin since 2014 and it has changed massively in this past years. rents are crazy expensive now and all the restaurants have tourist prices.
Thank you for this interesting video, I'm going to Berlin with a friend and we're on a budget so I'm relieved to see that the city isn't that expensive! Have a nice day
It's crazy how you can have beer so cheap and dorms so expensive, compared to cheaper countries where it's the reverse. Just means you have to drink enough beer for it to be worth it! ;)
That is true. Therefore many communities try to convince their bars and discos to sell at least one drink cheaper than beer. So that the kids can buy some water. Drinking age for beer is sixteen.
Döner actually is german food. The original Döner is from Turkey but the Döner you find everywhere in Germany was founded (is founded the right word?) in Germany.
chosenone4447 there are a lot of german restaurants and Imbisses cooking german food. But you have to understand Germans don't have a big food culture like Italians. There are a lot of traditional German dishes you just have to find the right place.
"Is there a German restaurant in this neighborhood" lol I found myself wondering about that several times when I visited Berlin. They have restaurants serving food from all around the world, which is great, but I found it difficult to find typical German food.
+Martin C. well there are a lot of German restaurants, but not in the neighborhood the video was shot. (it is a very cosmopolitan area with lots of immigrants). There are neighborhoods where you will find more upscale restaurants which are of course more expansive.. .. it was fun watching the video and it is true that if you are looking for a budget travel, Berlin is the right place.
Oh I'm not saying there are no German restaurants to be found. All I meant is that, like Gabriel, I found that there aren't any in some areas of the city. Of course I could find them in other areas. Note that the video and my comment refer to a particular neighborhood, not the whole city!
Thank you very much for doing videos like this showing prices of stuff in different countries. I love informative videos so please continue with the information.
10:34 looks like Wheatbeer, in my opinion much better than classic Pilsner, but its a question of personal taste and not an objective opinion. In Southern Germany especially Bavaria wheatbeer is the most popular style of beer, in the rest of Germany you can find it in almost every restaurant where they dish out beer and in supermarkets, but Pilsner seems to be more dominant outside of Bavaria I think.
Great video! Lovely representation of Berlin. I live in Berlin currently, but I grew up in Ireland. My reason for wanting to get out of Ireland was partially due to the high prices as I'm currently on an internship, I'm dreading going home and needing to pay €6 for a beer rather than €3... Then again, €19.99 Ryanair flights to Berlin 😉
Hey Gabriel, I love that you always treat yourself to a little beer at the end of your day. What has been your favourite beers from you travels? Top 3.
It's good to be able to know cost of food and stuff. But I would also like to see more of the city/places you go to. Would appreciate more footage of the streets and other interesting stuff.
I'm surprised how the Berlin wall is now since I was their on the day they brought down the wall... Till this day I have a small of the wall with me and I'm planning to go and visit back to Berlin and find the school I went, the hospital my sister was born and the apartment that I live with my parents when my dad was station their for 4 years before coming back from the state's...
It kind of depends on the room layout but generally I prefer the lower bunk so that you don't have to climb up the ladder. But then sometimes it's nice to be up higher and a little above the action going on. Usually I'll go for the bottom bunk but I got assigned the upper bunk in the hostel where I am now and I'm cool with it.
I was just there in Hamburg Germany, it was another nice city there, would have been nice to explore Berlin had I stayed a bit longer, but I will return to Germany at some point, nice country!
in may Germany is cheap wow thats like a dream for me here in central india .. the heat goes to 115 F or 48 C in may i usually run away from here in may
Holy crap, Berlin IS cheap. This is really surprising. I had a friend who went on a European tour last year and he was complaining about how expensive Germany was. WTF? LOL
Random Bike Trips Yeah, sounds crazy lol. But actually one of the first things you hear when you get to Berlin is that Berlin isn't Germany and Germany isn't Berlin. And that actually makes a lot of sense once you've visited the capital vs the rest of Germany.
Its true Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Munich are richer cities (so more expensive), but Berlin is still the capital and the biggest city in Germany. And apart from housing, the cost of living disparity is low in Germany.
With a few exceptions like Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt or Stuttgart Germany is really cheap. And it's just accomodation and restaurants that are more expensive in those cities. Basically all other prices are extremely even throughout Germany. Almost all other Western European countries are significant more expensive than Germany.
For the Berlin citizens is Berlin very expensive, because the wages are there very low. I know that. I lived earlier in other parts in Germany and have now a flat in Amsterdam (salary for same jobs are in Netherlands much higher than Germany) and Berlin> Gabriel, go to a normal restaurant in Berlin , not to a snackbar...You'll recognize the difference
The first one was during happy hour, it was 50% off. Also it was at the hostel so a little cheaper in general. Not sure how strong they were, probably around 5%.
I am german and your pronunciation is quite well :) to be serious, Berlin isnt famous for their Food (my point of view) and it is moreover an international City. that is the reason why you find a lot of international Food there. if you wanna try german Food just look for "Bratwurst" oder "Curry wurst" or go to Bavaria :)
Hey Gabriel, love your videos and they've inspired me to go travelling solo. What sort of things do you do in the evening to keep yourself occupied? I'm worried about being stuck for things to do and being lonely..
I'm usually editing videos in the evening and doing youtube stuff. I don't have enough time actually, trying to catch up with the videos, so I have more than enough to do to occupy my time. So even if you don't make videos it's good to have something to do, whether it's editing photos, writing or just a good book.
@Gabriel Traveler.... can you please advice me a cheap accommodation in Berlin during these days. I will go there and maybe stay for two weeks. Please inform how to book the one month accommodation in the john's cozy hostel? If there are other hostels that give a monthly package. how to book it online? is it available to book online. Please HELP!!!!!! SOS SOS SOS
I don't know about that. The only accommodation I know of is the hostel I stayed at, which I showed in this video. You should try the various online booking websites and search around, I recommend this one: www.booking.com/s/01d2cbb6
Private rooms aren't usually "slightly more", they're generally at least twice as much if not more than that. Depends on the country, a lot of places I will get private rooms. I have a private room right now in India. I travel year-round, paying for private rooms in Europe would end up costing a lot.
Nice videos. Great work. I need a help. Can you share some links of cheap but nice hostels. I am planning to come to Berlin for at least 3 months. I am not a student. I will be joining tech community there, so I will have no income.
Hey man, couple of questions, for that happy hour explained, was that in the Amstel hostel? Or public? And secondly was your stay relatively close to the city center or anything?
Yeah that was in the hostel where I was staying. I'm not sure if it was close to the city center because Berlin is a big city. But it was in a good location and you can easily get places using the metro.
Although Berlin continues to become more expensive/less cheap all the time, it is still relatively reasonable - if not nearly so much so as it had been during the days of "Ost- und West-Berlin", and even during the '90s thru the earlier 2000s; but of course, it has again "become" [ /been re-instated as ] Germany's Capital and 'pre-eminent'/foremost city so - certainly - prices and costs are, unfortunately, going to rise ({: \ .... ~Good video/vlog - as ever, **Gabe*!*
its a five day excursion not able to stay very long but we are doing the golden triangle delhi agra and jaipur and back to delhi i plan on comming back ans going to Goa one day its definatly different here i found out i do not like Curry at all
At 11:30 when the dishes arrive ... no comment from Gabriel. The food looked so lame, the salad poor, the sauce even repulsive, totally overwhelmed that leg of chicken. Berlin? Really?
You do a good job of presenting prices for the dorms, restaurants and beers but as a tourist I probably would not be interested in buying vegetables. Perhaps fruit, snacks, water bottles and other useful items that a tourist looks for would be more helpful to me. Keep up the good work and check out my videos.
The first thing I noticed was Lord Krishna on your t-shirt... :D You sir, are truly global.. I love your videos.. I hope you visit India again some day..

man i never get bored watching r videos...feels like i m visiting myself...love from india
Glad to hear it, thanks!
i live in the Netherlands near the German border, i do my shopping etc in Germany because its cheaper then the Netherlands
I used to live near Turmstrasse. All shops you showed I had been in one time or the other. Thanks for this. I really miss Berlin.
I stayed in the hostel where Gabriel stayed in January. Can you imagine the price was just 15 EUR per night per private room for two persons (total)!
That's very expensive
It's crazy how you can have beer so cheap and dorms so expensive, compared to cheaper countries where it's the reverse. Just means you have to drink enough beer for it to be worth it! ;)
Exactly, ha ha.
That is true. Therefore many communities try to convince their bars and discos to sell at least one drink cheaper than beer. So that the kids can buy some water. Drinking age for beer is sixteen.
Well said, Adam! So, buy me a beer!
Serkan Ister l wouldn't necessarily call oetinger beer exactly... But you are right it is cheaper than bottled water. Also beer is Grundnahrungsmittel
The shooting western movie
This video shows you had a gorgeous day to tour and record. Vielen dank!
Döner actually is german food. The original Döner is from Turkey but the Döner you find everywhere in Germany was founded (is founded the right word?) in Germany.
I think you mean to say "invented", "created", something along those lines :) Cheers!
I was wondering....I saw a German Doner place in Kilburn London yesterday.
I need to check it our soon
chosenone4447 there are a lot of german restaurants and Imbisses cooking german food. But you have to understand Germans don't have a big food culture like Italians. There are a lot of traditional German dishes you just have to find the right place.
Love how he converts everything for price and stuff

Transit App was so helpful. As well as the Welcome to Berlin 72 hour transit pass which you can purchase at Tegel airport.
3:13 50€ for 1 Month in a Dormitory is very cheap for Berlin city. Accommodation is as Cheap as India.
All your videos are really nice! ...greetings from Colombia.
Muchas gracias amigo.
Great video, dude. Very informative. Berlin is surprisingly cheap. May travel there next month.
Cool, have a great time.
Killer deal on that first beer.. I have to say that the Argentinian joint looked like a place to avoid... Excellent video all around!
Wow, people took really seriously the idea of "all you can eat" for breakfast. There wasn't much left for Gabriel.
Berlin is not cheap and I live here. Your country is just expensive! Think about it. ;-P
actually, Germany is expensive , Germany is 5 times more expensive than Morocco !
We Dutch people go to Germany for shopping, if you live close to the border like me, because it's cheaper there than here
What other point of view is he supposed to speak from? Should he qualify every video and say this is cheap for me but not someone from Thailand? Lol
Headed to Berlin this fall. Great vid. So stoked!
I've never seen you drop 20 Euro on a meal before? Love life my friend!
Hey Gabriel, I love that you always treat yourself to a little beer at the end of your day. What has been your favourite beers from you travels? Top 3.
Westmalle, Belikan Stout and Wychwood King Goblin are three good ones.
Remember prices in Europe is including tax. I am from Denmark and go to Germany for shopping and fill up the trunk of my car twice a year
It's good to be able to know cost of food and stuff. But I would also like to see more of the city/places you go to. Would appreciate more footage of the streets and other interesting stuff.
I made more videos of Berlin: th-cam.com/video/JqLMzzPSXOk/w-d-xo.html

It's not really all you can eat. It's all you want to eat.
50 Euros for a whole month stay, amazing deal.! Did you get more details?
No, I'm not sure if it was even open, it never looked very open and I don't think I saw people going in or out. Might be an old sign and old price.
When it comes to a hostel, which one do you prefer the lower or upper bunk? And could you please explain the reason behind?
It kind of depends on the room layout but generally I prefer the lower bunk so that you don't have to climb up the ladder. But then sometimes it's nice to be up higher and a little above the action going on. Usually I'll go for the bottom bunk but I got assigned the upper bunk in the hostel where I am now and I'm cool with it.
These fish & chips at 4:50 have nothing in common with those you get in the UK, where it's usually a proper meal.
Thanks Great video, I feel a lot more comfortable after watching this.
How much I understood you through your videos you are amazing person it will be amazing to meet you
Wonderful video bro😍
I was just there in Hamburg Germany, it was another nice city there, would have been nice to explore Berlin had I stayed a bit longer, but I will return to Germany at some point, nice country!
in may Germany is cheap wow thats like a dream for me here in central india .. the heat goes to 115 F or 48 C in may i usually run away from here in may
These are like last century’s prices compared to today.
Ive been there in Berlin last October! I love the city of kuffsturman,
Hahah Gabriel you're super goofy and funny. I'm planning a Euro tour starting in Berlin. This helps a lot. Thanks man !
Cool man, have an epic trip. I might return to Europe this winter.
Thanks, I wish I could be there. Great Job!
Wow nice video...Berlin The Wall..... Why not enjoy 2 minutes to check it out?
I made a separate video about the Berlin Wall: th-cam.com/video/JqLMzzPSXOk/w-d-xo.html
Hostels in Germany is as expensive as Scandinavian but others things are cheaper?

Almost all other Western European countries are significant more expensive than Germany.
You can add transportation to the list of expensive stuff (other then a few Flixbus long distance offers)
You actually bought the wrong transportation ticket as I can see. You bought the BC zone and you should have AB :)
Berlin is cheaper then some eastern europa cities and in the same time wages/salaries are 3-5x higher
I went to Koln but i wanted to go to Berlin as well, but i didn’t have Time
I love Berlin
super cool and interesting !
your krushna t-shart is good
Great video
Please visit Prague, it is such a beautiful city plus it is very cheap! (atleast for swedes)
Yeah I'm definitely thinking of going there.
love your shirt man
Thanks.
For the Berlin citizens is Berlin very expensive, because the wages are there very low.
I know that. I lived earlier in other parts in Germany and have now a flat in Amsterdam (salary for same jobs are in Netherlands much higher than Germany) and Berlin>
Gabriel, go to a normal restaurant in Berlin , not to a snackbar...You'll recognize the difference
A glass of Bear would be around 500 ml & you had 2, why the prices differ €1.5 & € 3.5, how strong are they because you look & sound just normal?
The first one was during happy hour, it was 50% off. Also it was at the hostel so a little cheaper in general. Not sure how strong they were, probably around 5%.
Hi,Just a question, does the beer gives you big belly?
Amazing prices for REAL German beer on tap!
Berlin is, however, famous for its vegan food!
i was definately expecting berlin to be a lot more expensive
Loved ur tshirt bro. It's a print of Lord Shri Krishna 😍
Hey Gabriel, love your videos and they've inspired me to go travelling solo.

Wow , you got that T-shirt from India?
I saw this Tshirt many times on your videos. Love your videos :))
Do you remember the hostel name & address, which is offering 5o Euro per month in the video
I found that Germany was reasonable everywhere
You should come to Scotland if you ever get a chance too
I went there when I was 18, hitchhiked the length of the UK all the way to John'O'Groats at the top of Scotland.
But it would be cool to go back. The Vagabrothers have some great videos from Scotland.
i Live in Scotland would be interesting to watch the videos if you came here keep up the good work :)
I love the Cheetos commercial!!
What about the brothel in Berlin, I think it's Legal. What's the deal, just curious 😉
Thanks Gabe....by the way buddy what is is are your favourite European cities..??

We stayed at the st Christopher s hostel in Berlin yes Berlin is cheap
Why would you stay somewhere like that, For slightly more you can get hotel room with privacy

I have a private room right now in India. I travel year-round, paying for private rooms in Europe would end up costing a lot.
Awesome thank you!
3:25 she did not want to be on candid camera.
I guess not!
Hi Gabe, are you planning a trip to the south of Germany, Bavaria?
No, just visited Berlin on my way to Zurich. I'm planning to spend more time in eastern Europe on this trip.
hey will you be going to eastern europe by chance?
Yes, definitely. That's where I'm most excited to see, especially the Balkans.
Can you answer me something personal?? how much financial backup is needed to roam around the world like you??
Hi, here's a video on that topic: th-cam.com/video/tz8FVuPSTCE/w-d-xo.html
And another one: th-cam.com/video/D5joCrtdLWs/w-d-xo.html

I'll probably be there for xtmas and years eve.
At 11:30 when the dishes arrive ... no comment from Gabriel. The food looked so lame, the salad poor, the sauce even repulsive, totally overwhelmed that leg of chicken. Berlin? Really?
Prices seem good
Verynic3 👍 video by the way
quality stuff
Berlin is cheapest among bigg cities
Please Munich next :)
Munich will actually be in a video soon, but only seen from the bus. :) We stopped there going from Berlin to Zurich.
You do a good job of presenting prices for the dorms, restaurants and beers but as a tourist I probably would not be interested in buying vegetables.
