The officers reasonably believed that the man was armed. He was brandishing what appeared to be a firearm in the grocery department. When he was told to drop it, he should have simply dropped it. If he had done that, he would be alive today. Should a police officer be expected to bet his life that a man refusing to drop what appears to be a firearm won't use it?
