My husband calls me the "Soup Queen". lol I often make soups and stews from leftovers. Over the years this practice has served me and my family well during lean times. While there is no recipe for "Refrigerator Soup", some combos are pretty classic and predictably successful. Usually anything your family enjoyed eating but couldn't finish can make a soup they will enjoy.
Making this soon. I have canned with you on several video's with great success. Thank you. I really love canning now. I looked at my canner in the box for 6 months before I got brave enough. I want to can everything in the house now. Your a great teacher. Big respect for you.
I think I’m going to try this. I can just imagine pulling one of those off the shelf in the wintertime and making a slab of cornbread to go with it! Giiirrrll!! So good!! ❤️❤️❤️
I have watched and followed you for several years going back to even watch older video. Yesterday I hunted you up and had to subscribe again as we moved. My husband is Finnish and he wanted to move back to Finland , and of course all my canning things cam along but had to resubscribe to all my TH-cam channels and I found you because I love the way you can garden and farm. I love how you flavor everything. So today was my first batch of bean soup to pressure can and i had to find your varied bean soup recipes. Thank you so much for all the love and effort you put into your channel.
I've been scared od pressure cookers and canners all my life, but you make it all look so simple, i am getting excited to try pressure canning now. Butter first and then who knows. You are a fabulous teacher. Thank you.
I LOVE watching you do your canning. You have the perfect personality and instruction to do this. Ive learned sooo much from watching you. Ty for all the instruction and for caring enough to help others. You are an excellent teacher!
I was just watching your video with you and your beautiful grand babies. It would notvlet me leave a comment so I came to another video. I have always wanted a farm. I am from Brooklyn so I was a city girl. But from such a young age I knew I wanted a farm. It was not meant to be my life took a different turn which was not my will. I am now 66 and I know it is to late for me to farm. But watching you i live through your life. I am so happy for you guys. You are blessed. I want to can both ways so I bought a pressure canner and a water bath pot. The water bath is not intimidating but the pressure canner is. I will do it i will get used to it. I made your pineapple jam and canned the chunk pineapple. It came great. Next ye my son said he will help me dig up the ground. I am in good shape for my age so I can get out there and work. This is giving me a small part of a dream. I am grabbing hold of what I can. There seems to be longevity in my family so I figure I have some time. I take care of myself so I am praying. Thank you and your husband for the videos. You are awesome.
I absolutely love all your videos and have been binge watching for a couple of weeks now. I recently found an All American on Amazon for $150 and quickly jumped on it. Thank you so much for putting out these very informative, clear and concise videos. They are so appreciated, now more than ever. ❤️❤️❤️
Making strawberry jam now just like u showed on video. Doing two runs in canner. Did use small electric food chopper on berries & the 2 apples as pulse speed gives some berry chunks too. Worked out great. Thank you for your canning as I’m canning using your recipes. Absolutely love love u💕🐾
I am definitely making and canning this bean soup. I have canned about 15 things that you have shown us how to prepare and can and my family loves everything that I have canned. Thank you so much for sharing your time and knowledge with us. I can just taste this soup on a cold winter day.
A good place to look for caners is the local farm supply store. Also, smaller hardware stores like Ace Hardware carry them along with canning supplies and parts such as rubber rings. I bought my water bath caner, mill and a large amount of jars at an auction in the country.
I am so glad I found your canning channel, you have a pressure canner like what my husband bought me. Thank you for showing me that the pressure canner with gauge will not jiggle but to watch the gauge for the pressure and to adjust my heat. My smaller presto canner does not have a pressure gauge and the weight is adjustable from 15 lbs to 10,and 5 lbs. and I have to wait for it to jiggle. When my husband gave me the bigger presto with pressure gauge I used it one time and went back to my smaller one cause it scared me cause I thought I was doing something wrong cause it would not jiggle and I stood right on it adjusting my electric stove to keep the pressure right on 11 or 12 lbs. I will definitely be canning more in the bigger presto because I can do more pints. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the video. I was trying to find a canning video where someone did not cook the beans. Because I didn’t want them to get mushy. But I wasn’t sure if I could put raw vegetables in there when I was using hot liquid. I’ve never done this in my life. But I think I’ve got it now after watching your video. 💜
You did a great job! Answered some questions I had about a few things too. Your soup look wonderful and I have to give this one a try. Thank you for explaining everything so well!!
A canner of this would stretch the food budget for 7 meals. That’s how I look at canning my vegetable soups. I haven’t tried beans yet. This looks so good! Thank you, Mrs. Homestead Heart! ❤️
Genius idea how you hung your rings. Love that. I hang some on the corners of the pantry shelving units. They are my just incase rings. I have a big container I have them in. However twice now I've gone to put one on a hot jar and it was messed up. Just spun like it was Wheel of Fortune. Never seen that before but I suspect it was one of those aldi's crofton rings. So I hung those other ones on the shelf unit so I don't have to run to the pantry spin that lid and go fishing. I have big on one side and small on the other. Keep that canning rhythm going.
You can Google for what your altitude is. Takes 30 seconds, that's what I did anyway. Thanks for showing this recipe. I was planning on canning this this week. I love your videos.
Just bought my first presto pressure canner. I’m so happy that you showed us, up front, how the canner works. I’ve read the book twice and it sure was very helpful to actually see a video on the pressure canner. Can’t wait till I can start using it. I even bought a gas stove for canning. I had a flat top that only had three burners working and I was water bath canning all my tomatoes. So I am very excited to start using my pressure canner. Blessings to you.
17:45 no it’s not weird to love the way vinegar smells. Lol I love how it smells and taste’ I have to be careful how I consume it and how much I consume🙃
Mrs. Heart ❤️ can you add cooked ham hocks or smoked turkey pieces to the bean soup? Please let me know. Thank you for your videos you are a blessing ❤️
I just can't wait to make this bean soup it looks so good and it's not even done yet I still say you need to make a cookbook I can't even wait to make this it looks so delicious and it's not even done yet
I learned so much. I'm ready to try this soup next week. I'll let you know how it turns out. This is a good alternative because I didn't want my navy beans overcooked losing nutrients & vitamins.
Hello Mrs. H., just found you recently. I could watch you all day! Thank you for taking the time to upload these and teach us. May God bless and keep you and your family in 2021!!
Thank you for sharing and caring enough to help us to be self sufficient and back to our roots. Many blessings to you and your family 💞. I canned for the first time apple butter it was so much easier than I ever imagined... you make it look so easy and fun...thank you.
Hello Mrs.❤️️, Had a hard time finding Prest 23 quart, everywhere out of stock. Found it on eBay but had to pay $170.99 + $ 10.26 tax with free shipping. I was going to buy the American but as you say big bucks. And also hard to find in stock without over paying. I can wait. You seem very content with the one you have. The presto company should pay you, your the reason their out of stock.
I know right?! I’ve been searching online for this canner as well, for weeks. I’m literally online this very minute looking for a one at a decent price.
I finally got to watch this video! Your beans looked wonderful! Would I do anything different if I put ham in my soup! I noticed you didn't add meat to yours.
I finally made this bean soup three months ago. I'm the queen of procrastination. Lord. Anyway it was the best navy bean soup I put in my mouth. Watch out now. That's saying something. It was pretty and delicious looking all sexy in those jars lol. Ikr I need help. Thank you so much for sharing your skills with us. Yes there was a ywo year delay in me actually making this soup. My canner is working now so I'm good to go. Until next time I'll be getting my next batch on this weekend. Like for real for real. 😊😁
I can’t thank you enough for all the wealth of information you provide. I just love you, fam and channel! Quick question - you mention a video on how you prepare your beans that we can watch, but I can’t find it. Can you link in the description or h
Mrs. H. I'm very new to canning. I haven't canned anything just yet. I have watched every video in the series thus far. My question is, how much water do you have in the pressure canner? Is the soup actually ready to eat once opened or does it require more cooking? Last, my concern is the canning salt. For health reasons, I don't use much salt. Is it possible to salt the soup after opening it? Will there be any issues with preserving the soup without the salt?
I have a couple of questions. (1) When speaking of head space of, say 1", can you leave more headspace if your jar doesn't contain a full portion. Or should you go ahead and fill to full headspace of 1"? And (2) When you are going to continue canning, do you completely change the water in the canner. Or do you just add a bot to bring ip to proper level for your canner?
You probably have your answers to these questions by now, but just in case, this is what I do. 1. Headspace is important and should be followed as closely as possible. Depending on what you are canning, you can top your jar off with broth, water, juice or whatever to make sure the jat that is "short" will process the same as the rest. If the product is fully cooked (like jelly or cooked meat), just put it in the refrigerator and use it right away. 2. It's fine to reuse your canner water for consecutive processing. Just make sure the canner has the proper water level so you don't boil it dry. And remember "hot food/hot canner, cold food/cold canner." Either keep the water hot, if you are canning hot food, or let it cool down if you are packaging food at room temp or colder. You don't want to shock your jars. It's geat that you are canning! I think everyone should.
You are a natural teacher. Maybe you could do videos with rated levels of knowledge, like 101- basics for canning 201- recipes for people who know the basics, 301- rebel canning. I know how to can but I like to see how others do beans or potatoes, etc. Thank you for the video. I’ll definitely be watching more.
Love, Love, Love your videos and can’t wait to make bean soup this fall. Question: you have more than 7 jars to make. What do you do with the next 7 while you’re waiting for the first to pressure? Do you just keep your jars in the oven and beans hot on the stove until the next round, or do you make them up and put the filled jars in the oven on “standby”. Do you can other soups (tomatoes)? Would love to see what other soups you make. Thank you SO much for your great instructions.
I enjoy this canning video you explained it so well...thank you for teaching me how to do this canning... what kind of pressure cooker should I buy being my first experience on canning?
Do you put ham in yours? Do you do anything different if you do put ham in it? Great video. You explained everything. Also How much water is in that canner?
Hello Homestead💓...I have a question could you do your navy beans like you did the pears could you use the same method on the beans if you didn't have a Pressure Pot... What's the other alternative...or the older way of doing them beans with out that pressure pot🤔
I brought a granite pressure canner .. it has the metal weights for 10 psi .. the steam came out .. I added the pressure regulator .. this is supposed to wiggle steadily .. I did not see it wiggle at all .. what does this mean? TFS

You can do it!🙂
R. T I was terrified of it also in the beginning. Now I just have a healthy respect for it and I babysit it while I’m using it. 😊
Just like she said let cool for at least a hour, don’t touch, lift lid away from you, don’t let glass jars hit each other. Have confidence!
I LOVE watching you do your canning. You have the perfect personality and instruction to do this. Ive learned sooo much from watching you. Ty for all the instruction and for caring enough to help others. You are an excellent teacher!

Learned that if I need to can water for a full load, I use lids that don’t don’t seal before as I’m planning to dump water past canning. Worked well
This helped so much. I’ve been wanting to get a better understanding of canning so i can go ahead and start. Thank you for this!
Thanks for the video. I was trying to find a canning video where someone did not cook the beans. Because I didn’t want them to get mushy. This looks great. I need more jars
Thank you! I think I over filled because I had seepage or maybe to much beans. I think I should have tightened my lids more too. 🤷🏻♀️
I really like that funnel! 😍Keep the side rim of the jar clean. I think I will go look for one.. 🙂🤑

Mrs. H. I'm very new to canning. I haven't canned anything just yet. I have watched every video in the series thus far. My question is, how much water do you have in the pressure canner? I like that funnel. What kind is it? I love your videos.
You don't have to sterilize jars unless you are processing less than ten minutes. But thanks for the video. They look wonderful.
Love it❤️
I have a couple of questions. (1) When speaking of head space of, say 1", can you leave more headspace if your jar doesn't contain a full portion. Or should you go ahead and fill to full headspace of 1"?

You probably have your answers to these questions by now, but just in case, this is what I do.

You don't want to shock your jars. It's geat that you are canning! I think everyone should.
How soon before one can enjoying eating the soup? Look delicious.
You are a natural teacher. Maybe you could do videos with rated levels of knowledge, like 101- basics for canning 201- recipes for people who know the basics, 301- rebel canning. So do you use your stove exhaust fan while canning? Does it cause harm to your overhead microwave or cabinets?
I finished my beans they are cooling off .. do I leave them on the counter overnight or do I store them in my closet? Tfs
Can Red Beans or (Kidney Beans 😋) and rice be canned? Or Just beans with the meat to add to rice for a meal. If so, can you make a video?
