This is probably the most UNDERRATED Rankin Bass special You get a solid story Many a Holiday A good moral lesson AND VINCENT PRICE!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT MORE COULD U WANT?
Wow I can't believe it. I found my favorite Easter movie. Happy Anniversary Peter Cottontail. 48 years ago I was born in 1971. I had my first Easter when I was 1 years old in 1972. I remember when I turned 5 years old my mommy got bless her soul she have glass ball with Peter Cottontail and you wind up and would play Peter Cottontail hopping down Bunny Trail. And I still have till today. I never stopped believing in Easter Bunny.
I remember always watching this little film right before Easter every year as a little kid. Back when Easter seemed as exciting as Christmas. I miss my childhood. :)
Robbie Baker Yes, childhood is such a splendid thing. The sad thing about childhood: it doesn't last forever. But know this: we may not stay children forever or relive our childhoods, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it while it lasts or remember how fun it was.
Actor Danny Kaye in fact the narrator for the Easter and Christmas animated shows the characters also imaged in him he was a tall skinny red-haired gentleman famous for movies in the forties and fifties. It also says narrated on the first egg by Danny Kaye
I read "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" aloud to the kids and families on Zoom last year in April 2024 if my memory serves me correctly for Storytime With Andrea as part of an Easter theme and they really loved it.

Why don't they play this on tv anymore during Easter time? I have been hoping to see it for years but haven't. I remember watching it as a kid and want my children to enjoy it. I guess I'll just have to tell them where to find it here on youtube. Thank God for TH-cam!
simpler times - we were satisfied and excited about this coming on when now kids have cartoons and entertainment 24/7 - I am glad I grew up in those good ol days!
I love the Rankin/Bass holiday specials as much as I do the Charlie Brown ones. Always brings a smile to my face and gives me warm memories of my childhood :)
One of my favorite Rankin Bass productions and i remembered when i was 4 seeing this on Disney channel in the mid 80s and dug it. A shame Casey Kasem and Arthur Rankin Jr died last year, they will be missed and so will Vincent Price whom is my favorite actor of all time.
Thank YOU so MUCH!!! I've been looking for this for many years! I just showed this to my son (he's 2) and he loves this. Vincent Price totally stole the show as Irontail.
Magic, excitement, music, action, fantasy, thrills, and adventures. Here Comes Peter Cottontail, I love this beautiful Easter movie. That never gets old, it goes on forever and ever over the years of spring. For Easter, I believe in the Easter bunny that gives hope to everyone of the world. Easter is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Flower fairies are growing new plants and flowers in the forest, and the gardens. I never gave up believing in fairies and magic with all my heart because I still refuse to grow up, and forget about the precious things I knew, especially those from my childhood. I am like Peter Pan. My one and only wish is to keep the magic alive for all time. And I also wish to be a fairy to stay strong, childlike, young, and beautiful forever and ever like Tinker Bell. Believe in magic and never grow up 🐰🐇🐣🐤🐥💮🌻🥀🔮🌈🪄⭐🌟🌠✴🐦🍬🧺🧚🧚♂🧚♀
This has always been my favorite Easter movie everrrrrrrrr...!!!!! Every year I watch it. Since I was younger it always made me happy and I LOVED IT !!!!!
OMG! Loved this so much as a kid that I wore out the VHS tape I had this on through watching it so much. Thank you for uploading this. I've got Bass/Rankin to thank for the fact I ended up a fan of Danny Kaye's simply through this Easter classic.
A fabulously entertaining way to teach children their holidays,in a sense, thanks to Peter's traveling in a cycle of all the holidays,(via the time machine),starting with Mother's Day and ending with (next) Easter. That's what I've always gotten out of it. This was always one of my favorite Easter TV specials, when I was little, I now even have my own copy of it,on DVD. When I was little,I swear I used to think Bonnie was a (Christmas) angel, since Peter finds her when he gets to Christmas,of course. And of course, she's actually a "long lost" Easter bonnet, from April Valley. Thanks for posting, and Happy Easter,to all TH-cam users!
Thank you for posting this. It's my first Easter away from home. Every year I watched this movie before Easter, and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to this time. But thanks to you, you kept the little bit of tradition I always upheld running. Thank you! God bless!!! (If you believe in a deity, that is. If not, thanks anyway.)

You are my hero for uploading this. Does anyone know why this is hardly shown on TV anymore? I remember watching this when I was little and enjoying it. It's a cute Easter special!
You know, I think they should've given Rudolph a small cameo in this during the Christmas part. That would've been awesome! It would've also been awesome if they casted Mickey Rooney as Santa again in this.
Trivia info: Paul Frees, who voiced Santa here, also voiced Santa in the Frosty the Snowman Christmas special in 1969, two years before this premiered.
From what I understand, Paul Frees (who voices Santa here) was used in Rankin'/Bass specials whenever they couldn't get Mickey Rooney. This isn't the last special to do so.
I got it on VHS when I was young. But I wasn't thrilled because of the opening previews. The only opening preview was Madeline. And I was like "When's the part where we see Rudolph or other humans?"
Even though it was an Easter special, my favorite part of Peter Cottontail was always the Halloween segment. I used to always wish that Rankin/Bass had done a stop-motion animation special for Halloween. (Mad Monster Party lent itself to Halloween, but it wasn't ABOUT Halloween. Neither was Jack O' Lantern- Family Classics.) Many years later I finally got my wish when Disney/Touchstone released the Nightmare Before Christmas.
Susan Di Nardo I wish they would. As well as Charlie Brown, Yogi Bear, “The Baby Looney Tunes’ Eggs-traordinary Adventure,” “The First Easter Rabbit,” and “The Easter Bunny is Comin’ to Town?”
Just saw this for the first time in over a decade. Have to say I like it quite a bit, there's just a really great charm to these Rankin Bass specials. I think their Christmas specials are better, though this is definitely up there. I think I'll start watching it every Easter
I didn't know till yesterday that Casey Kasum was the voice of Peter Cottontail. R.I.P. Casey! Keep your feet in the carrot-patch and keep reaching for the Easter Eggs.
Haven't watched this in about a decade, and it was on VHS! This really makes me feel sad and nostalgic for my childhood... Rankin Bass movies are the best!!!
