"Diavel" means "devil"
a "Scrambler" is a bike that can be used on-road but can still be used off-road (or at least in theory...) or basically different terrains one would come across in trails. Not exactly an off-road bike, and not as rugged of course. But you wouldn't worry if you end up on some rough road if you're on a scrambler.
"Scrambling" (in outdoor or hiking terms) is climbing up steep elevation, like hills or mountains with all fours (both hands and feet).
So, I suppose they used the same term in motorcycles, since potentially, they can be used for that as well.

In 1979 we call the motocross bikes as SCRAMBLERS.. I had a honda xl125s scrambler.. i used it for motocross races even at a dirt and mud track at the backyard of our farmhouse at Don Antonio..
