You’re in high school and bowl don’t bowl on a Allen pattern? Lucky you that kills HS kids around here lol. If you want to get better bug your parents to take you to some junior golds tournaments or any scholarships tournaments most of them are sport shots or little tougher than a normal hosed shot. The more you bowl on them the more you’ll learn. My son is 15 and a freshman, bowls in a summer sport shot league and does 15+ junior gold, mjma and other tournaments a year. Have to bowl to learn!

This video is the best overall the crew has done to-date. Content, production value and thoroughness was top notch. Oil ratio and pattern complexity is not an easy topic and most usually forget some obvious call outs on TH-cam.
I’ve seen house shot killers go out and bowl tournament or sport for the first time and be lucky to shoot 165.
    1) 39 Bear pattern- tight angles and have to keep your lines in-front of you
2)41 Chameleon- too many ways to play the pattern. For me, too many choices leads to slow starts.

Would love to see more technical content like this. The analytical side of bowling is often missed in ball review channels despite terminology being used quite often. It took me forever to understand what a "stroker" meant, for example. I would be interested in a video similar to this but showing what happens when oil patterns break down after a few games are bowled on them.

Reverse block is always interesting! Our old pad machine did that unless you knew how to make patterns for it. I usually put down stuff like PBA patterns, WTBA/WB patterns, and Kegel sport patterns like Boardwalk and Dead Man's Curve. House patterns are 44ft 23.5ml 4:1 and 42ft 23.8ml 5:1 (Tuesday tournament we host, we must have 150 games to play national championship in my country, so we're collecting games)

I have never bowled a tournament on a house pattern. Here in Croatia we have always practiced with oiling the lanes with patterns for competition, and we never had a house pattern put on to compete. The easiest one is the USBC Blue, it is similar to the house pattern but still, a smaller ratio then the house.
The toughest by far was the US Open pattern (ration 1:1). That is brutal. You have to develop a track just outside your line with strong cover balls and then play a board inside of it to give yourself just a one board miss room at the breakpoint, not the arrows, but the breakpoint. That pattern is played downlane, so your miss room is ridiculously small. I encourage all to try it out because it is a really humbling experience.
Guys, this is a really great video! Keep them coming! :))

Very nice video, thanks ! A nitpick : 2 hander on easy pattern : The "miss right" shot was barely half a board right, and it also had the break point more inside than out. I think you should have tried another shot for that one, to illustrate it better. Thanks for the end comments on comparison of averages. It is an important message for all. In Europe we don't hear daily scores of 700+, 800+ series, 300s etc, as we hear in America and other countries. Most patterns here are on average harder than over there i think. Also because some lanes are old, the topography is really bad, so even a medium pattern, becomes weird.

PBA WOLFF Pattern was probably the hardest I have bowled on! Also, to add to your comments, trying to make sure you have the right ball and proper surface on the ball in your hand on difficult or tougher patterns will also help when your accuracy is at a premium. This will also help give you more room for error, when there isn’t much room for error on tougher patterns. AWESOME videos guys!

Kegel turnpike(pretty sure that was it). Last pattern of the year for our sport league. Couldn’t play the gutter or use urethane and a big OB... played super slick but the back ends still popped. LOTS of splits. I took 2 off the left then stone 9ed THE SAME FRAME. And we were on that Bich for 5 god dang weeks in league. Like one of the 10 first timers we had that year came back for the new season(kind of hard for a 200 average bowler to average 140 for 5 weeks and willingly want to do it again lol). Not sure if that’s how that pattern plays other places, but it was pretty brutal those 5 weeks.

I bowl in both a sport league and a house league. I find the biggest challenge on the sport shot is my spare shots. Those cross lanes especially in my PBA experience league I need to be more direct something I have a difficult time doing. On the house shot just throw move a little more towards the middle throw it around 10 and it will usually come back.
That all being said when my physical game is right and my timing is down. I kinda like the sport shot better because most of the people iny sport league don't really know how to approach a sport shot. So as a lefty the pattern breaks down much slower, Also my house league is not consistent with how they oil. One week it's flooded. The next you would swear they had not oiled in a week. At least in my sport league the pattern changes every 3 weeks. I just try and select whichever 3 balls I think will work best for me on whatever pattern it is. If I'm wrong the first week..I get 2 more weeks and 6 more games to get it right.
As for my most difficult pattern Cheetah I suck at short patterns. But Cheetah especially the most recent version is 35 feet which isn't bad but only volume of 23. With my slow ball speed its difficult to control my hook on all that dry lane.
The current wolf is only 34, but that one actually has a volume of 29 something if I remember right.so that was actually more playable for me. Just use a more aggressive heavy oil ball.
As for the patterns I like Dragon 2020 a little over 30 volume I also like the 2019 version of Shark that is a volume of 30. Yes I like oil.😃 With my slow ball speed, I'm at my best when I can just throw my asymmetric heavy oil ball. Preferably with a volume between 28 and 30, and 43 feet or longer.😃

So I have the Proton it’s first ball up in league and I love it. I can get 1-2 games out of it normally, but last week I struggle in game 1 to get 171 and then was lost...seemed it was or went wet dry quick and I played them wrong that point on.
So where would the Senergy fit in my bag???
Proton, Dual Lock, Wild Streak and then the IQ sapphire and the Evolve can be used for wet dry if needed going forward, but where would the Senergy go after the Wild and before the IQ...so, solid, hybrid, pearl😌

Hardest pattern for me was (IIRC) Shark in 2013 in a sport league (shark, cheetah, scorpion, and chameleon, I think). I'm a lefty, speed-dominant stroker and was bowling with an Ebonite Mission 2.0. I also wasn't comfortable throwing in the middle of the lane, so I was basically taking about half a backswing to slow myself down.
I'm curious how much you think volume and length also play a factor (if you have a video on this already, please point me to it!).

    Totally excellent video!
Now I would like to see a down and in "shot maker" on all three patterns.
The players you showed all had a left to right game with resin.
The hardest and first sport pattern I ever bowled on was the USBC Nationals in 2019.
I am a Classic Full Roller who uses primarily urethane. I play down and in direct to the pocket.
My house avg is 180. At Nationals I averaged 165 for singles, 15 pins under my house average and 9 pins above my Sport adjusted avg.
By comparison, a girl in my league who averages 212 on house (really great house shot bowler!) at Nationals also averaged 165 for singles which is 47 pins under her house average and 18 pins under her sport adjusted average.
My point is, flat sport patterns are not as hard for house shot shot makers who rely on consistency and accuracy for score compared to house shot power players who rely on revs and power and the tons of margin for error that a house shot can provide their style.
With my style, on house, I have to stay within 2 boards of my target line to be effective, while the girl I spoke of can miss by 10 boards and still strike.
So when I bowled sport I was still playing the same game, stay within a board or two of my target. Of course my bad misses were terribly punished.
I actually loved the USBC shot because I felt it was a true test of a bowler. I wish all house shots were flat, low ratio sport.
It changes how you think as a bowler and what type of ball you should be using and how you should be rolling it.

Thanks for the comment nordattack! How come you don't use resin on your house condition ? I'm sure it'll give you more room for error than 2 boards.

@@jrproshop As a Classic Full Roller, due to my slow ball speed, zero tilt and 90 degree axis rotation, resin balls are extremely over/under with virtually no consistency of motion. I have tried over 30 different resin balls with different surfaces and layouts with very poor success. Just recently I finally found one resin ball that behaves very well for me, the DV8 Poison Solid. It is smooth and early enough that it performs like a urethane ball but with more hitting power. The only issue I have with it is that it can die out very fast if there is not enough oil on the lane and hit like a pillow. So I save it for higher volume house shots.
I would recommend reading the description of my Full Roller video #118 which explains in detail how Full Rollers Bowl most successfully. There is excellent advice there from my Full Roller coach who bowled in the Golden Age. Check it: th-cam.com/video/R5He3-jkiUs/w-d-xo.html

Ok, this is great and all but the oil pattern I bowled on last year had a 26:1 ratio. I thought this was illegal until two different pro shop owners told me that the rules had recently changed. Since there are no winter sport shot leagues, and I've never seen a challenge shot league before, I'm either stuck doing tournaments (which I don't have time for) or I bowl on the easiest house shot ever.
