  • A young male peacock displays in early January 2016 at the L.A. County Arboretum. The squawking (crying out) that you hear in the background is a peahen trying to find her lost young male or female.

    Hi, I live in the U.K. A peacock and 2 peahens have turned up in my village. I am worried about them! I can’t feed them as I have ferrets and the peacocks are having a stand off with them. (Although I do relent and give them grapes, bird food, cos they are so lovely) Another neighbour feeds them but no one is ‘looking after’ them. Any advice please!?

    • @peacocklover27
      @peacocklover27  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The peacock and peahens are pretty independent. Leaving food for them is very helpful though. Grapes are good. They also like raw sunflower seeds and unsalted peanuts. Enjoy them, my friend!

    Dear Miss P,
    This is a young male Peacock, brave and daring, with a great character to woo and seduce these beautiful peahen who exerted a great fascination onto him. Although the female, as usual, does not seem very impressed by his bravery and gallantry, She ignores his feathers display. Oh boy!, More luck for next attack...
    Thank you my dear Miss P for this wonderful creation.

    When males open their tails is just a call to mate? Or is there any other reason?

    • @peacocklover27
      @peacocklover27  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      When peacocks display (open their train feathers) it is mainly to entice a female to mate with them, but they also open their feathers as a warning (to squirrels, etc.) and females will also open their tail feathers as a warning to others.
