  • Hello! Follow me along for a body modification mystery through Ancient Scandinavia! This is one of my favorite mysteries! Even Oscar was speechless!
Very special thanks to the artist Nattramn who kindly let me borrow his song Trenne Nätters Väntan that can be heard throughout the whole video! Don't forget to check him out!

Awesome video, very interesting topic! It seems to me like a fashion trend, or a way to intimidate people. I can imagine the dentists of the day were questionable! :P

Haha who knows maybe the dentist was the one having this as their signature 😂 back in the day the dentist and blacksmith was the same person so... 👀😬 Thank you for your kind comment 😍

Love this video. I had no idea that so many have been found over a wide range of grave status. I suppose we will never know the significance. What a shame.

Until your representation of the carved teeth made it hard for me to imagine what it would look like, I don't know why. They should really look impressive, inspiring fear, respect... this blow my mind!! And between us, now I would love to have that modification but with the fear that I have of the dentist, the sensation that must be felt and the pain I imagine, the desire passes immediately 😅🤣 You even gave me a smile naming the Chinchorro culture, which generally does not take them into account. Have you ever read about the lady of Cao? her tattoos are gorgeous! and all the ornamentation, impressive! I love this video! Truly Top quality! hope to see more soon!

Great video!! It is something I have been wondering about as a person who is a follower of the old ways and body modification enthusiasts. Thank you.

The idea of filing your teeth!😱
I can barely go to the dentist without panicking!😰😂

RIGHT?! :,) I'd rather not imagine it too much haha. 🤣

Such an interesting topic, I thought we have found like 2 or 3 bodies max with these. I wonder if they had any practical use, like measuring something or could you possibly play ASMR on your teeth on long journeys 🤔

I just picture Harald Bluetooth and his elite soldiers, filing their teeth and dyeing their grooves blue. The Mayans had body mods too, with gems in their teeth, so ink is not a far stretch.
    Exciting topic! Great video! :)

Oh no! I totally buy that they painted their teeth in. Not a stretch at all. :D Thank you for enjoying and finding the time to comment!

I personally believe that it is more plausible that Harald Bluetooth had a blue (or gray) tooth due to hitting his tooth really hard. When that happens it is not at all uncommon that the tooth becomes darken that can be said to be gray or blue, similar to a bruise elsewhere on the body, just that it becomes permanent when it is the teeth. He lived a violent life and getting hit in the teeth is really no that uncommon for violent guys :-)

Really enjoyed this topic & never even thought of Harald “Bluetooth” as a possible link. So happy to subscribe to your channel!

Thank you! 😊 This topic is super cool and a total mystery! During my research there was a theory about that maybe Harald Bluetooth had something to do with it, but he might as well also just hit his tooth. 😂 who knows. It is very interesting to think about though, which is why I included it in the video.

I have 2 thoughts on Tattoos:
1, Markings of a Slave, conveying ownership
2, Personal Talismans or Personal charms

tattoos are the easiest thing really, make a scratch, introduce carbon, let heal.
maker a scratch pattern, have art.
scratch with blade, have fine art.
use a needle....bone, hawthorn, metal.... introduce fine art.

This is really interesting. Would you be able to talk more about the body modification or about the different graves that have been found?

Mycket intressant!

Interesting. Especially acknowledging no evidence at all of Viking era tattoos & video end where you speak of being odd duck of group you hang out with. Flying into Oslo Okt 3rd stopping first Tanum (noticed your shirt in video) & driving a loop of Sweden. I'll be visiting many (18 stops) of these sites you have made videos of & Birka.

I have a question as a fellow Viking as yourself how do you feel about the show
    Vikings?

Two first seasons were great, then they fumbled hard and I'm disappointed by the lack of runestones. I am a bit confused by how they chose to portray the story of Ragnar and many of the artistic choices since this story is so amazing with many amazing details, but for what it was the first two seasons were good.
