i rick petell have the same thing wrong put gas in the cylinders it starts but dont stay running do you have a top view of the lines that you filled ty
Yup: squirt fuel down breather tubes... get bowls fairly full (don't overdo it) It fires right off. and will run long enough to have fuel pump pull fuel thru. empty lines. Shocked how many people have not figured this out..Then pull there brains out!
I picked up a 96 440z back in may and it wasn’t running I replaced the plugs and put fresh gas in now it runs like a dream it should for only have 1000 km on it
Thanks my yamaha was just too unreliable. Took it out probably 7 times broke down every time.lol On the other hand polaris indy has never broke down in the 8 years that ive owned it. Had a arctic cat jetski. Pretty reliable so decided to go with arctic cat. Plus it was a great deal. $450 with 1900 miles!
Hi. Tell me if you know. What is the difference between 440 ZL and 440 Cougar? Visually nothing. But in the manual it is written the ignition advance angle of the ZL 24 and the Cougar 18 degrees. How can I tell? What angle should be ideally adjusted?
I managed to trade my old tundra with a 250 for two of these (98 models) one runs but needs a little work and one is a parts sled, haven't gotten to ride it yet but I can't wait till winter so I can.
@cubbeezx Yeah im guessing up aha, right now its 3*c here Im just east of london ontario. But yeah man, maybe i could some time. If i get another sled im going to have to get rid of some of my dirt bikes, Cause ive just got way too many!
They notoriously get stuck needle jets, or whatever they call that little stopper that stops fuel when floats are full. One always hangs and wont let fuel in the float, never fails. Yes, i drain the bowls before storing, and they look new whn im forced to remove carbs every winter to knock it free. Odd, on MX bikes, they're all metal, but sleds have rubber tips. ..which, ironically, is why they stick. I don't get it. Metal ones dont stick, not on storage prepped dirtbikes.. If the rubber is to reduce vibration, then why do they not use them on MX bikes, which vibrate far more? Ride safe brother
I'm thinking of buying a 1997 ZL440. Runs good but the seat has tears in it. If I can get it cheap ill snag it? Just another toy indeed!! Looks like it goes like hell in the video, and 70+MPH is more than fast enough!
Nicolaas Kooistra They came from the factory all neatly tied up but I'm sure we've had to put the odd new zip tie on. They really keep everything neat but you can still get at the wires if you need to. Thanks for watching!
I also found a 78 Artic cat phantom 440 needs the carbs cleaned and a 85 or 86 Artic cat 340 needs a primary clutch other than that both run believe it or not the 340 had been known to keep up with the 600's it the trails and I can get both of them together for 150$ for both sleds together I might get the pair of them get a primary clutch for the 340 and call it good I'll take the 440 an put my wife on the 340 like I planned to do
hands down the best era of snowmobile imo. I love the character every machine had back then and the triples were just on another level.
Havin fun with the 440 ' cheap fun and reliable !!! I love the Graphics of those years !!
Small twins are going to make a huge come back.
There's nothing better than snowmobiles in the winter
Great video I love your sled's
Sure does make me miss mine! Mom sold it without saying so much as a word. Had a lot of fun on the ZL440.
We don't have our ZL any more either, and at times do really miss it. Great sled!
time this video was made this sled was only like 12 years old wonder what this sled look like now
Thanks, we try and look after our stuff!
Yes, those new ones are nice for sure. Wouldn't mind one of them.
This is back around the time i came across your channel then you got the Honda Big Red Three Wheeler and the 4x4 quads
Thanks for sticking around for so long Gary, we appreciate it!
Man this video makes me miss my sled! I want to get another one but, We never get that much snow here in southern Ontario.
i rick petell have the same thing wrong put gas in the cylinders it starts but dont stay running do you have a top view of the lines that you filled ty
I had a 97 ZR 600 EFI. Was a awesome sled. Only complaint was it had a tiny gas tank.
The 97 ZL440 we had was decent. It had a good top end, but was really a dog out of the hole. Tried to clutch it differently. That didn't work out.
if this sled was stored in a garage last 12 years probably still look good but probably it was stored outside

Glad you got it going...great sled!

The new ones are nice, the older models like i have an 07, and yeah she's a beast
I like the snowmobile Jack those a handy so your track don't sit a freeze and they don't rot out from the weather
Yes, they sure are a good invention!
so just 2 cycle oil down the cylinders?
Mine is a 1995 artic cat 440 with reverse and mine runs like a beast
Jason bilili u put reverse on it
yeah it goes pretty fast for a 440 one of the fastest 440s ive ever seen

Sorry we don't have this sled anymore
I have a 1994 arctic cat zr 440 bogus down and not staying running
I got a zrt 600
Great video! I have a '99 that is more "fun" to ride than my '14 800.
i just got a 1997 ZR 440 and its stupid fast for a 440
I got one of those too. Super awesome and everyone always wants a picture
alright cool, thanks for the fur tip. last time i used my gopro when snowmobiling all i could hear was the wind.
I managed to trade my old tundra with a 250 for two of these (98 models) one runs but needs a little work and one is a parts sled, haven't gotten to ride it yet but I can't wait till winter so I can.
Right on, they are a blast!
what arctic cat sled is in front of your 440 when you were taking the cover off?
what back door do you use on your gopro for snowmobiling? thanks
@cubbeezx Yeah man thats what im sayin too, Its cool having them around but dont have any room.
nice sled man i gotta take my 87 phazer apart and fix the chain case because shes leaking oil
@cubbeezx Yeah im guessing up aha, right now its 3*c here Im just east of london ontario. But yeah man, maybe i could some time. If i get another sled im going to have to get rid of some of my dirt bikes, Cause ive just got way too many!

JAYMAG Brownstone Loved our ZL 440...very fast liquid cooled 440! You'll love it.
so u fill the bowels from where the air box hooks up ?
You fill the carb float bowel through the breather lines if that is what you are referring to....
Ya. Im trying to get a 99 started.
Ryan Carlen I can't breathe 😂
have you guys had good luck with that 440? im looking at a 94 zr 440 just wondering how the motors are? thanks
Yes, it has been a good machine, no engine troubles at all!
ok thanks
any new sled videos coming soon?
goatman061
Hopefully the weather will stay above -30C and we can get out and do some riding to take some new footage! Stay tuned.
***** i have a 1998 zr 500 and i was just wondering how you got all the wireing and cables so clean around your handlebars, mine's a mess haha
Nicolaas Kooistra
They came from the factory all neatly tied up but I'm sure we've had to put the odd new zip tie on. They really keep everything neat but you can still get at the wires if you need to. Thanks for watching!
Will fix it this year fall
I am looking at a 94 Yamaha enticer 440 for 200$ mint condition needs a choke cable
Sounds like a GREAT deal!
nice sled how fast does it go
It always had lots of power for a 440. We sold it in the spring
Blow in the tank next time. Gets the lines primed
Do you know if the zr 440 fan is a 4 stroke
Our ZRT and ZLT were from the late 90's and they were 2 stroke...the ZR 440 back then was also 2 stroke
cubbeezx thanks does that go same for 2000 model
Not sure but probably
@@polarisfun0012 nope its a 2 stroke polaris never did make a 4 stroke 440
Nice machine I have the exact same model but it's a 98
Sorry it's a 500 not a 440
I got the same sled
I also found a 78 Artic cat phantom 440 needs the carbs cleaned and a 85 or 86 Artic cat 340 needs a primary clutch other than that both run believe it or not the 340 had been known to keep up with the 600's it the trails and I can get both of them together for 150$ for both sleds together I might get the pair of them get a primary clutch for the 340 and call it good I'll take the 440 an put my wife on the 340 like I planned to do
WOW...great deal! Good when parts fit from one machine to another.
Ya we have to travel 1.5 hrs to get to any snow. Using them around 7 times a year is not worth dropping $10k for a new one.
Looks like the cover has seen better days though! LOL
got a question for you. why in the world do you call it a Zed l?? it's a ZL lol.
Z is pronounced "zed" in Canada/UK/other British commonwealths
damn thats mint
That was like my sled but i have a 1998 zl 440 and I will do a video on that
My snowmobile not runn good
Well probably gotta have to replace the whol thing and i really dont want to do that expensive and time consuming.
Well idk that much about arctic cats just picked up first on yesterday and noticed it said fast track on the back. Who knows. Lol
I think'96 was the first year for the fast track thing. My'96 jag has it.
I hate your videos they make me miss all my old toys lol i had a 96 ZRT 600 triple nice looking sled you have there
its not zet l its zl
that's to bad
