Every August since 1985, Arette (France, Pyrénées Atlantiques) has hosted an event counting towards the French Hill Climb Championship.
Now organized by the Moto Club d'Arette.

My dad was a mechanic for Joe Leanard, 3 time AMA national champion and in their spare time, used to race hill climbs.. In fact I have a dozen 8mm films of hill climbs back in the early 1960's, with guys climbing on Harley's, BSA and Triumph bikes. I really need to get them digitized...

I love that the French just do this. In the UK, there would be thousands of protesters chaining themselves to everything in sight in a vain effort to save the lesser spotted cheese catcher, or stop anyone from having any kind of tofu free fun! Vive la France!
French are major pearl clutchers about the environment don’t be fooled😂😂😂 come to the u.s. if protesters show up to events like this it dosnt end well for them. That hill is so insane! It looks impossible. That crowd isn't looking for success, they came for failure.

I feel like the longer this goes on, the more difficult it becomes with all the bikes tearing up the ground. The traction must get really difficult.

This looks fun as HELL!! So wanna do it! Kind of seems like a team event in that it takes lots of runs to cut a trail and if they take multiple runs just survive and not destroy bike (hard part) to live to try again. Fun to watch thank you!!

some of the guys seem to have sustained nasty injuries.. those spiked wheels are scary, considering the fact that most end up falling :)
