Peter Jackson tried to get Serkis an Academy Award Nomination but they refused on the ground it's not consindered real acting, which is pretty stupid.

Some moments can be absolutely hilarious regardless of the subject matter. Andy Serkis's performance on set was absolutely needed for his costars to react to.
Jumping and crawling around like 'the gimp' and squealing infront of a film crew is and always will be the highlight of Serkis career.
I love how the quality still holds up nearly 30 years later.

Production for any film is made with efficiency in regards to locations, set-ups, etc. Not unusual for scenes to be directed out of sequence.
