Great review as always Dylan - thank you. I enjoy your gear content very much but I love your creative work even more. Any thoughts on what sort of content you have planned for the channel this year?
Great video as always Dylan! Would be interesting to see this compared to the Viltrox 33mm 1.4. Same focal length and f aperture. Similar price and aperture ring
Thanks! I'll see what I can do about finding a Viltrox 33mm, but from what I've seen online, it seems this lens would run circles around it in terms of image quality.
If you still have the lens, could I ask you to try something? In full manual mode could you switch back and forth between f9 and f10, and also f13 and f14, while watching the aperture iris? I have received two copies of this lens (for Fuji X), both directly from Meike, and on both lenses there is a defect in the aperture motor that results in no movement between those two sets of f stops. Meaning f9 and 10 are the same diameter opening, and f 13 and 14 are the same diameter as well. I spoke with Meike about this after I received my first lens. I sent it back to them for inspection and before sensing me a replacement they told me ahead of time that the new one would be “the same.” I found that a little hard to believe and had already gone through a bunch of trouble to get the lens back to them so I wanted to at least get a lens back for my efforts and sure enough, same issue. Obviously by that point I was well aware of what the result was going to be, but I have looked around at all the different reviews that have come out since the lens was released and I can’t find anyone that’s noticed this issue.
Would you recommend I get this lens over saving over the 35mm 1.4? For context I have a few other budget lenses. The 15-45mm kit lens, TTA 27mm and Viltrox 56mm 1.7. Also you didn't seem to mention it but does this lens have any "character"? I shoot on an XT-30ii.
I would imagine this lens to be sharper than the XF 35mm f/1.4 at least wide open. That being said I do not own both lenses (I am waiting the Fuji lens to arrive soon). Even if sharpness were to be similar, the Meike is cheaper and has all that make XF lenses great (weather sealing gasket and aperture ring).
Have this and the 55mm and find this one is surprisingly excellent, better than the 55mm. My favorite thing about it is the bokeh which stays very round into the corners. For that reason it mixes very well with the 55mm which is very cateyey, lending nice character in some shots but may be too much geometry chaos in others.

I've got a few videos planned that will deal with some more creative process. I hope I can find the time to invest in them!

Thanks for the review! Looking forward to the comparison of 33mm/35mm lenses.
Hopefully, I'll have all the lenses I need soon!
Would really like to see how it compares against the 35mm 1.4R, both seem to go after that "vintage vibe" look.
I no longer have my 35mm f/1.4 R. From what I remember, though, I think this lens is significantly higher contrast than that one.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer I do feel that's a side-by-side comparison that most would want to happen though :) Can it be rented?
@YannickKhong Not on this side of the ocean. We have no rental stores here.
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer that's a bummer. a local fan of the channel then?

Hopefully, we'll see a 23mm and maybe even a 16mm coming in this series!
@ good news, they are both confirmed to come on the 55mm product page
How do you compare this lens with the new Viltrox 35mm F1.7?
As I said in the video, that's coming up in another video soon.
Any plans for the Sirui 85mm F1.4 for Fujifilm?
