We put the VF8 City Edition to the test with a family of 5, testing features, utility and most importantly range. Vinfast is one of the only foreign EV startups with a physical presence in the US with 10 California stores and is actively delivering VF8 EVs and in the process of bringing its flagship VF9 SUV to the US and Canada this summer.

I've seen a lot of these in black, grey and the occasional red but have yet to see it in this green color irl. It looks so good in the california sun

I really like it! Great video and I like what your husband touched on at the end about more competition coming which is good for everyone because it makes all EV's more affordable because every manufacturer will be competing for your money.

Hi Kim. I'm from Vietnam. My son is studying at Vinschool. And we're about to move into Vinhomes. And I hope to buy a new VF8 next year. I'm so proud that Vietnam can produce such amazing cars. Thank you for your review.
Vinschool is overrated, yet they charge an exorbitant amount of fees. No one in their right mind would send their kids to such a school.
Houses built by Vingroup are all identical and soulless, the inner roads are narrow barely enough for cars to get through.
Model VF8 car is probably one of the cars with most complaints considering their small number of units assembled so far.
It's foolish to be blindly proud of inferior cars assembled from imported parts.
If it closes down after a few years like their petrol cars, would you stop feel good about yourself?
True Vietnamese people are proud of their Viet culture and redeemable characteristics such as being hard-working and honesty.

One of the most important about battery is Super or Ultra Charge Tech, like Rapid charge on smartphone with PD2.30/3.0 Type C. Take 20min from 10%-70% and will be shorter than 5min
@@quangvinh1153 Good point. Vinfast's marketing department acted like real amateurs in North America since the beginning. At that price range, there's no reason not to offer the same really fast charging with the 800V architecture like Kia and Hyundai. And nobody but nobody uses the "10 to 70%" range of fast charging in 30 minutes, everybody else uses the 10 to 80% number. Plus, the crazy and very strange way to sell the battery lease option is certainly not welcomed here in North America and only confusing to all potential customer. It was created barely to hide the fact that the VF* and VF9 are mainly premium vehicles, and I for one are not prepared to shell out or $80k + (Canadian $...) for a car, sorry ! already drive an EV and being close to retirement, I expect my next EV to last me 20 years so I'm certainly not going to "invest" such an amount of money in what is essentially a start-up company, in the car business at least.
As per Vinfast's news, 700 VF8s standard edition is on the ship to Canada now and its range is 297 miles ... let's wait for it. The very first model in the CA now is City Edition with EPA range 207 miles.
VF9 : Dual e-motor 300kwh/motor , battery 123kwh ~ 369miles
VF8 : Dual e-motor 260kwh/motor, battery 87kwh ~ 260miles with City Edition. The next gen with long range and extend range will be on trade mark. Maybe extend range get 123kwh battery.
If Car OS can control active only a motor in Eco mode, range will be longer than now.
The driving range is the issue you would be worried the least about Vinfast cars.
In socialist Vietnam, there are so many reports on the various issues of the cars...from software to battery.
Just this week, local media reported one Vinfast car was burnt to chassis while on the road in the city of Vinh, Nghe An.

What a totally stunning colour! With light interior it would be even better. And Vinfast will be huge soon. We are still waiting for tests here in Europe, esp to get our icon Björn Nyland, whom you certainly know, to do his famous three tests: 1000km challenge, range test (90 and 120kmh) and banana box test.
I like these reviews a lot, second best to your DIY videos which are still my favorites. These are really cool though, because you regularly step out of the Tesla bubble and that is great.
And that ypu do family videos is sooooo much more interesting than the typical other youtubers, because you always make it a real world experience.

Thank you for an honest review of the Vinfast VF8. It was nice to see the real review of one. Very new company coming to our great state of NC I hope they get all the little kinks fixed and end up one of the best in the business of building EV's. The VF8 is a really nice looking vehicle and i love the green.
In Vietnam, VINFAST cars have a 10-year warranty.
The more you look, the more beautiful you will see. The car has a lot of technology and the ADAS self-driving function is very good.
I spotted my first VinFast on the road in Southern California yesterday and was very curious. It looked like a big bulbous SUV on the outside w/ a nice finish. It is perfect as a taxi as the back is spacious.

Only vinfast saves itself by how long does it last without any major problem. There is no tolerant for the technology's problem in this competitive with other EV for its 2 years probation time.

Vinfast cars are known to be of inferior quality.
As a car company, they virtually have no tech, no good reputation in the car industry.
Their petrol car business closed down after about 3 years accumulating huge loss.
It will happen the same for their EV business.
Guys, Don’t be disappoint that this city edition of VF8’s range can be fixed for a range of ~300 miles with future software update which is developing so thats means you still can buy this car!
It appears they are being SUPER conservative, perhaps to make sure they can meet their "10 years 70% battery unlimited km" warranty promises.

As a car company, Vinfast has virtually no tech, no good reputation in the car industry.
They are only at the assembling level with parts imported from overseas.
Their petrol car business did not fly and had to discontinue after about 3 years.
It's highly likely that their EV business will also have the same outcome.
Their only assembling facility in Hai Phong has been operating at below the designed output for years and it is getting worse since they had to stop assembling petrol cars..probably now at 15% output.
The batteries they use in their cars are from Gotion, which is not as good as Calt, Samsung or LG.

Vinfast sounds like a great option when they expand towards the East coast. While I love my Tesla that warranty sounds very impressive. Even with my 36k average a year I could got over 3 year’s warranty coverage. My Model 3 was over in less than Year and 3 Months.
In Vietnam, VINFAST cars have a 10-year warranty.

My Tesla has been good to me, but its getting old. I would buy another, however it really hasn't changed in the last four years, except for blackout trim, which is soo yesterday and for the younger geneneration. VinFast would be nice option in the Southeast someday, but for now its really only American and European models thats offer bling that us older gererations are looking for. I love my Tesla but Tesla seldom update the cars look. It's now heading into 2024 and the Tesla still looks the same as mine when I bought it in 2018. The model Y i do find not attractive. The model 3 looks good but not the model Y. The Vinfast cars do look better. I also am disappointed I lost 30 miles of range even though I seldom ever use the supercharger and followed all instructions to maintain it well. Plus, my car still only has 33K in over 4 years. Losing that much range quickly is a BIG dissapointment.
That charging partnership with all the mix mash of companies is pretty awesome and the warranty is great! They did their homework and more of a reason why traditional automakers should drastically rethink their business plan moving forward.

From what you've shown on the video, I am super excited about this company and if they expand to the Midwest I would consider them for my next vehicle purchase. Great video. I'm still in love with look and feel of my Model Y. Regardless of what people say I still like the exterior styling of it. I like a little bit better over this. This EV gives me that Hyundai SUV vibe in it's exterior styling with a touch of Ford Mach-E on the rear break lights.
Don't get me wrong. The exterior is still very, very nice. BUT.....The interior of this is a game changer. I love many of the controls and some of the features that are similar to Tesla. Their Levell 2 driving looks decent and I'm sure is great on many of those highway driving or road trips. I also love that they partner with all the major public chargers and have 1 app to rule them all. We just need these public chargers to strengthen their charges when t comes to functionality and reliability etc.
Always great to have another EV choice out there other than Tesla.
I test drove a VinFast at the 2023 CES in Vegas last January.
It definitely spanks the Toyota BZ4 and VW iD4. Sandy Munro was also impressed by it and the company operation. Let's hope they are successful.

Fist of all is the standout design and looks. Secondly the price and the practicality..... nevermind any other EVs especially Model Y. This VF8 is an eSUV with it's own personality.

Got attracted to that video by the promise of a real, genuine account of the VF8 range and although I enjoyed the test, I still don't know what is the range of the VinFast. Because the GOM is not proof of the range, that's all...

i've experienced this car, really amazing
Similar to what happened to Porsche Taycan. EPA had Similar issues with range reporting. It ended up being better then reported but also Porsche made some software changes an a hardware mod I believe with a dealership visit an range was raised like 30 miles to 40 miles.
