Warlord has clarified that you only need one Rifle Platoon to get one of each other type of platoon. You only need one Rifle Platoon to get an Armored Platoon and a Heavy Weapons Platoon, but if you want two Armored Platoons you’ll need two Rifle Platoons.
@@jonathanbirkeland1085 that's good to hear, it means that the old platoon selectors will be pretty close to the new method. I wonder how theatre selectors will work when those are addressed
@@GeeksWargaming its good, for most of us, it just means an extra low level officer or two. (looking at most starter boxes, you get your rifle platoon minimums along with some extras, the heavy weapon platoon minimums (and 3 additional anti-tank teams!), all you need then is an armoured car or jeep to act ass the armoured platoon command vehicle.)
Found this channel through Bolt Action, when you two blokes started playing. Loved your approach and will be watching more again, if BA is on the clock
Great to see that Bolt Action is back on the channel. I'm looking forward to 3rd edition and I am really hoping for an index in the new rulebook because I agree that the current one isn't easy to use for reference. Can't wait to see Dickie's next mission...
I can see that many people are happy about the changes, I am a bit concerned. Looks like the old 40k idea and you def. have to buy/build/paint more stuff. Warlord are a company so they want to sell more stuff...isn't it?
Having played 40k for 32 years (yes im that old) as long as you keep it simple the rules work, which is where GW have gone badly wrong.. as for buying more stuff yeah its never a bad move to increase sales. Im not concerned as i love painting up the minis and isnt that what counts.. the enjoyment. I think the v3 rules will take a little bit of time to get used too.. but from what ive seen they look good.
I absolutely agree, I’m really not happy, but like several reply’s in this thread, 40K players will be happy. I like the new platoon building system, but it’s completely exploitable, I’ve just made a 21 dice list with 8 nebelwerfers in it and I’ve already seen another you tube channel, who’s taking 8 mortars in his army, are Warlord going the GW way of the more you pay the better you play? Reg & inexperienced tanks pinned by any weapons with an AP value (we’ve not seen this since V1, which was a disaster). I keep hearing there’s loads more kills in V3, I’ve watched about 30 Vid’s and the only thing doing the killing are mortars and artillery, the static infantry don’t do zip, I’ve also watched a panther shoot a Sherman, penetrate and kill, but then they remembered the cover save, subsequently, the Sherman was saved by light cover (that must be why the Germans covered their tanks in bushes in the old war movies ?). I’ve played bolt since it’s initially release, I lived with the old grumbles, but this is a step too far, I might consider Flames, or the plastic soldier company’s rule system, but I’m deffo leaving bolt.
Fun fact most the machine guns on the dakka stuart were fixed and couldn't be aimed at all absolutely no traverse beyond turning the whole tank they were only intended for suppressive fire and were not very useful even for that hence why they were removed in later models
@@GeeksWargaming which is still more accurate than it historically should be but I think it hits a good balance now it's still a usable fun vehicle for anyone wanting to strap as much dakka to their tank as possible without being completely ridiculous wiping out squad after squad with something that in reality was not very effective
the straight -1 to hit if pinned is reasonable, the unit must pass an order check (unless on ambush) so the effectiveness of the shooting is affected but not to a ridiculous level. It will affect tactics in the game but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
from what i could understand about the pins, if pinned you shoot at a minus 1. even with multiple pins. so if regulars have say 3 pins they shoot at a minus 1. for example 3 pins. do a pin test unmodified on a 9 as regs. remove one pin and shoot at minus 1 after removing a pin marker. if you fail the squad goes down. fubar etc will remain the same. i think this will prevent squads from being pinned out of the game. i had a situation where an open topped hummel was pinned out of the game from infantry pins. in effect the new pin system as i understand it will keep more units in the game fighting at minus1. less calculations as to what is the modified hit in version 2 if you passed the pin test. it should keep the game moving along faster. my question is dichotic; firstly i like snipers and how will they be changed. they were definitely over powered for what they were. will they still be worth taking. maybe to hunt officers to reduce moral. secondly id love to see hand grenades incorporated for free because they were such a basic piece of ww2 kit. 3 or 4 inch range. maybe not against tanks because the crew should baton the hatches but open topped vehicles for sure. if you can get infantry close enough give them a chance for glory.... just my two cents worth. im liking the new rules so far. see what they do with unit costs. i got a dream. take a veteran lieutenant and let him activate 4 88mm guns against tanks. or 4 isu152 soviet bunker busters. happy days for the infantry gumbie armies.....
Don't like the half shot mmg rule for vehicles.I think its fine if you are in a tank, but if you are firing from a half track ,why? Easy fix is that rule doesn't apply to open top vehicles and before anyone says ...oh , it's cause they're moving,we already have the move and fire = minus one to hit rule
As a tanker (who was a volunteer BOG on a Ft. Knox museum Sherman, and a TC with M48a5 & M60a1/3.) It is hard to reload an interior vehicle mounted MG. Once you have fired a belt of ammo it takes lots longer to reload than reloading an infantry MG. And the Infantry MMG has an assistant to help change the ammo belt.
Without points values, this is all speculation, we were talking about this in the shop, we have the opinion that it appears Warlord have not thought this out properly, at the moment as it's shown, Russians could take up to 5 Katushas with each rifle platoon. It definitely looks as though Warlord are going down the 40K route, if Cover save is stackable with a Down order, Vets are going to virtually impassible to shift.
just keep the platoon down to one junior officer and two five man squads. personally id make the squads a bit larger points allowing of course. having the extra officers and toys will cut into the points. things will have to get cheaper??

I'm looking forward to coming back to Bolt Action. 40K isn't in a good place currently so this might be a good time for Warlord to capitalise.

We cant wait either
They need to make special teams such as mortars and mmgs plastic
Hell yes they should
The cost entry to create is too expensive. The best you are going to get is resin. Me personally, I dislike resin and plastic.
It would be funny if winter maps became the meta. At least for a while.
I have a winter battle mat ready to go, just no scenery🙄
