@@TikitheHutt if you play both early war chi-has with howitzer and late war ho-ros at the same time, lightning will strike you though. (To be fair if you play one of the twelve (!!!) ho-ros that were built lightning will strike you anyway) 😉
Come on that not true. Don'T take all of Mordians Advince. I think the Battle of the Bulge Starter... is MEH! A Rulebook...40€ where I live. Ok.... than a Bunch of Americans and a handfull of germans..... Its not good. I dont think it is good. What are you playing or planing to Play? The German Boxes are good. And the American Starter is also Fantastic. A Box of Infantry on top.... and thats it. Much Cheaper than Most Tabletop Systems.
Returning player here, starting from scratch. I went with the British airborne starter set. Plus a pack howitzer and AA gun. I also order the light tank to come with my rule book. I'll be using my 3d printers to produce many jeeps for the army. I'm looking forward to 3rd edition. The local chaps have organised an intro day in October so I'm building up a small force to go along to that with.
Great video! Good to know that the US Army Starter Set is good, I was thinking on making a army of Brazilian Expeditionary Force, and this Box Set seems great to build it!
Very useful, thank you. I didn't play BA for a while and I'm interested in restarting with this V3. As a belgian I'm also appealed by the battle of the bulge theme, so I will definitely order this new starter set
started playing bolt action a few months ago knowing that 3rd edition was on the way. I picked up the us army starter set so it's nice to hear my choice validated, really happy MGs are worth playing now!
Ahh I'm jewish and I have a full waffen SS army with Swastikas, it's a just a game, they were there, it not a political statment to play them. The Japanese and Soviets had an aurgably much higher body count, the German Heer as a whole was massacring jews, poles, and many other people's just like the SS. You have the separate the horrors of WW2 from this really cool war game about brutally killing the other side!
@@dannyhalas9408I admire you for this, mate, I really do. I can’t bring myself to play Germans as my grandfather fought as part of the British Expedionary Force and was taken prisoner when his unit was fighting the rearguard action to enable the British evacuation at Dunkirk. He spent the war being treated abominably as a POW, but at least made it home as a shadow of his former self. The Germans certainly had some of the coolest looking units and vehicles in the war, but I fear he’d turn in his grave if I chose them as a faction, even in a war game. The upside is that my grandfather leads one of my platoons and somehow manages to shoot a Bren gun single handed! Enjoy your games, my friend.
Mordian, I have the waffen starter set, all the other german infantry sets (besides winter ones), and I still feel like I need more boxes, just because the Germans have SO many awesome unit types that you can build. They have SO much potential from a modeling perspective.
I already planned on getting the new starter set and then follow up with winter heer for the Germans and us army for Yanks. I can't wait. Why start one army when you can start 2 💪💪
Stupid question. But does the starter set explain how to field a single vehicle? From what I understand vehicles must now be taken as a vehicle platoon in support of a rifle platoon, with the vehicle platoon having at least 2 vehicles, so 1 greyhound can't be used.
Just dont count to much on your StugIII or any turetless tank/ tank destroyers as they are difficult To play because of the mouvement rules and limited arc of fire. Remember to add a few trucks.
Just wanted to say, would be great if someone came up with a “how to build your battle of the bulge starter set” video. I’m new to bolt action and it’s taking me a bit to figure how to build them (both weapon options and unit type)

What box would you recommend for 2 new players that are with a small skirmish but don’t want a winter army that battle of the bulge offers? With a plan on how it can be balanced .
What will be the status of Canada and other commonwealth countries in 3rd edition while I know they won’t be in the rule book but will they get they’re own PDF or will we have to wait till the armies of Britain comes out? P.S what do you think the Best Buy for a Canadian army be other than the Sherman troop?
One of my small dislikes with Bolt Action that I hoped they would change in this edition was the FG-42 being classified as an assault rifle in game. It was not an assault rifle. Its chambered in 8mm Mauser (same as K98k) not 8mm Kurz (same as STG44). It was supposed to be used for both sniping and squad support more akin to an automatic rifle. So it really should be classified as an automatic rifle in game.
@@dariostabletopminatures The FG-42 had a semi-automatic firemode (where it fires from a closed bolt) and an automatic firemode (where it fires from an open bolt, like the BAR and most SMGs from the time period). I agree that rules can be streamlined for simplicity, but there are already rules for automatic rifles (the BAR). Just apply those rules to the FG-42 instead of making it an assault rifle. Thats no added complexity. Besides limiting it to a number per squad of Fallschirmjäger (one or two per squad would make sense) there is no other work required here.
@@ubrot7995 Dont tell me that... tell that Warlord Games. Could be that they didnt want to have a rule bloat. I mean the US has the Bar...most take that over the lmg. The Germans would than have more Weapons Profiles than any other Nation. I think its ok the way it is. Did all the Fallschirmjägers bring a FG-42 or all Smgs/Rifles and a Few got the FG?
@@dariostabletopminatures 7.500 got produced so I would wager at most one person per squad had one if even that. Mass production got scaled down in '44 because the high command preferred building more STG44 which were much easier and cheaper to produce due to less complexity in design. I don't think this could really qualify as rules bloat as it would only apply to one type of squad in the German army lists. These were only produced for and used by the Fallschirmjäger after all.
@@ubrot7995 7.500 Thats not much at all. I saw a few Videos on youtube, people shooting that rifle. Everyone was impressed by the quality. You do you, Mordian, but I don't really like the idea of promoting Bolt Action as a "competitive" game. I think the competitive paradigm is what has made GW operate the way it does and the made 40k the unplayable mess that it is today. In the long run, most people who are interested in 40k and attempt to play, get put off by the expense, effort, and state of the rules. They give up on Warhammer and don't grow the wargaming hobby.

Is just me? This 3rd edition has some terrible changes. I'm open to trying it and the Boys at warlord HQ reckon they can change my mind. I'm probably going to stick to second. Also the free units (apart from the British one) were fucking cool.
