      I think we all know it's only a matter of time before steam trains return as the dominant locomotive. They're faster, better looking, and above all, more powerful! The only obstacle is fuel consumption, and maintenance costs. Both of which I'm pretty sure shouldn't be too hard to overcome in the future.

      @@amtrak1214 Steam lokomotives need constand feedwater supply- they do not have condensers, at least until now - but for ships it may be an alternative it only needs a decent heat-source...

    There was a wood plank bridge over a main line on a footpath behind factories near Old Oak sheds in London that I crossed in 1955-61 and if a train was coming I'd wait there to get covered in steam & smoke.

    • @pirozcontractor6006

      It only pushes when negotiating steep gradients, otherwise it takes on the role of a generator coach (electricity and/or heating is provided for coaches from diesel engine generator e.g. at night).
      It can also be handy for shunting duties once a rail tour is done and the coaches need to be stored.

    Steam at speed.... Unfortunately I feel that some of these clips of 'steam at speed' will be owing to plenty pushing assistance by the class 47 at the back of any of the trains.

    • @04clemea
      @04clemea 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You may feel that, purely because they were there. But none of the 47's were pushing in all of these clips.

      @@04clemea fair enough.... But I must admit being present on one or two of the tours depicted..... Gaining aforementioned 'speed' was definitely assisted by the class 47. ☺. Bring back the non necessity of having traction in tow...... All for keeping pathing times.
