as fascinating as Shinkansen at speed - but with all that moving parts, this steam lokomotives are a mechanical wonder - and still going strong after all this years
I think we all know it's only a matter of time before steam trains return as the dominant locomotive. They're faster, better looking, and above all, more powerful! The only obstacle is fuel consumption, and maintenance costs. Both of which I'm pretty sure shouldn't be too hard to overcome in the future.
@@amtrak_121 Steam lokomotives need constand feedwater supply- they do not have condensers, at least until now - but for ships it may be an alternative it only needs a decent heat-source...
Holy shit... big thumbs up for that! Never visited England for such things, but your video shows, that I might need to think about that! Greetings from germany!
It only pushes when negotiating steep gradients, otherwise it takes on the role of a generator coach (electricity and/or heating is provided for coaches from diesel engine generator e.g. at night). It can also be handy for shunting duties once a rail tour is done and the coaches need to be stored.

Steam at speed.... Unfortunately I feel that some of these clips of 'steam at speed' will be owing to plenty pushing assistance by the class 47 at the back of any of the trains.
@@04clemea fair enough.... But I must admit being present on one or two of the tours depicted..... Gaining aforementioned 'speed' was definitely assisted by the class 47. ☺. Bring back the non necessity of having traction in tow...... All for keeping pathing times.

They can bar them from regular passenger trains but they can never silence them

Absolutely phantastic pictures that fill my
Excellent compilation of these magnificent old beasts, unleashed and allowed to run at speed as they were intended. Thanks for posting this.

One of your best videos!

Wonderful, Clan Line and Co. at high speed ! Thanks.
5:25 at Huntspill would’ve pleased Rev. W. Awdry! WOW that’s a view!!! 😲
To think, Braunton spent 25+years rotting away in Barry Scrapyard. Look at her now. Wonderful sight....
Wow the speed of the train is amazing & greetings from Indonesia Railways 🇲🇨👍😁
Great stuff. Clan Line definitely looks quicker than 75mph at 6:27!

Another absolute banger lads
Great video
Super nostalgic 🥰🥰🥰
super really !! on the other hand, does the diesel push or is it in tow ?

@@pirozcontractor6006 thank you, I understood everything!
The diesel locomotive is also used to for reversals in and out of the London Termini.
How did I see this video on Facebook BEFORE i saw it here?
Because it was uploaded on Facebook first.🤷🏻♂️

70022 Tornado @ 1.12? I bet that confused people? Maybe they were expecting the other ‘Tornado’!
And it says 70000 Britannia on the bar. Weird. Din't know there were 2 Tornadoes XD

@@winco68 Ah I see.
Actually, I would realize that Australian Steam locomotives are just almost the same with almost same speed but just faster for a little bit.
great stuff man
Why is there always a diesel locomotive at the back?
Well the first clip shows no diesel on the back, so they're not always there and the main reasons have been listed in the description.
0:23 clan line is really shifting abit
Is it me, or do all Bullied pacific drivers like to open the taps?
Ollie Bulleid knew how to design the buggers to make 'em go, that's for sure....

Clan Line with twelve on!
Why are there diesels pushing behind the coaches?
Not pushing, usually there as backup or other operational reasons.
If enroute loco fails then block section can be cleared quickly
12 voyajeur wagons is very strong !!

All of them are faster than most of the Indian electric trains 😀
Shame about the diesel at the back pushing.
None of the diesels in this video were pushing.
This would’ve been a cracking concept for a Thomas episode, perfect excuse to bring Boco back

You may feel that, purely because they were there. But none of the 47's were pushing in all of these clips.
