Great how Ross explained that Michael Schumacher is highly responsible for the sucess of Mercedes today! Even if at that high age Schumacher was of course not as fast as he used to be, but he still had that element of perfection to Build up a dominating team in F1! Schumacher was the best, just incredible that man!
Agree. People do not understand, what a big part Michael plays in the the success of Mercedes. Michael came back well knowing, that the car is not only far from competitive, but also not fitting his way of driving. And they had no plan to fit it on his driving style, but to Nicos. And still, he was dedicated as always and contributed his time and knowledge. Also, what most people dont know at all is, that the accident he had while motorcycling was heavy. The biggest accident in his driving carreer. He broke one cervical vertebra and ruptured a head vein. He had a hard time recovering and still was keen to come back. But, after this severe injury he wasnt able to drive at the limit anymore, as he used to do. And he never talked about the injurys he suffered from. This also describes him. He didnt put this in spotlight, as he didnt asked for excuses.
@@leampunkt3678 Agree, it was not the age, it was the accident that made him a bit slower.
Certainly one of the reasons for Hamilton's success at Mercedes-Benz.
@@leampunkt3678 Also there were issue with different cars than he was used to. Micheal used slight rotation of rear-end within the corners in 1st carrier. But in 2nd carrier in Mercedes he was not able to do it, because of different cars. That rotation can be done with cars with strong front-end, but F1 cars from 2008 or 2009 era had quite a weak front-end and weak grip. So, he actually lost his competition advantage. Same like Alonso in 2005 and 2006 where he could oversteer into understeer due to superb Michelin tires. After that era, he also lost his advantage.
@@jiricoufal3835 lost his edge? Alonso was the best driver during 2010-2013 despite of not having the best car.
What a great interview to stumble upon. I loved Schumacher. I loved Ross Brawn. He was an amazing strategy genius. It was a match made in heaven.
What a racer, Michael is simply a legend. I’ve had the privilege to actually meet him and he is amazing his dedication towards fitness and training was outstanding. I’ve never seen someone so talented and driven in my life. +He was super nice to us race fans always waved to the crowd as he was loved my so many Ferrari and Merc fans.
#keepfightingmichael
DAMN! You are so lucky to have met him! Super jealous!
Rob Graham I waited 6 and a half hrs in line to meet Michael 🤗🤗. It was worth it an amazing guy. Super nice to us Ferrari and Merc fans
The most intelligent and hardworking f1 driver
First, I knew about Michael Schumacher. Then, Formula 1.
Action movies
Michael Schumacher is Formula 1.
Same my dad would have to tell me when cart or indy was on no so micheals not in this race
Michael Schumacher = Ferrari = Formula 1
Michael is my hero! So much so that those words were the beginning of my final speech to an adult German course that I took! I wrote a piece, in German, describing what an awesome Formula 1 driver Michael was. Nobody in the class was a Formula 1 fan, but I think a few of them are now because of my touching speech!
I drove 500 kilometers, from Toronto to Montreal, to the 2004 Canadian Grand Prix. Michael qualified 6th and my friend asked me who would win. Of course, I said Michael and he said to me "no way could he win from there". Michael didn't disappoint me and my friend was astonished and asked me how I knew. We all know the answer - we're talking about the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time), Michael Schumacher!
Micheal Schumacher will always be the greatest driver of all time and just to add Michael was born in 1969 not 1968 but never mind that it's a special day and I wish Micheal a very happy 50th birthday and thank you Ross brawn for that incredible tribute
Thank you for that Interview. It was amazing and so incredible touching and at some points I had some tears in my eyes. Michael not only won championships, he won hearts, especially in Italy. Every - single - person who worked with him was so touched about the man and the person he was and still is. Michael - you are dearly missed. I met Ralf at the gasstation at my home here a few weeks ago. I didn't take a picture (because thats not what I'm up to) but I thanked him what he and his brother gave me in my childhood. Ross, thank you! All of you guys became like a little family for me who made my childhood so special. A family I don't know in person but... there is some kind of closeness... Great interview - thank you! I love you all, I love you Michael. The best to all of you!
NICE!
I grew up with formula one, born in 1999 and watching Michael race every Sunday since I can remember. He always was, still is and will always be my greatest hero. I don't even know how to describe how it felt to watch him win races nobody else could ever win. I've talked to someone much younger a few days ago who didn't know anything about f1 and only watched the last race of 2018. He said "I've heard these stories about that Schumacher guy, did you ever see him race? Did he really do all these things they say about him?" And I told him, smiling but nearly in tears at the same time, that everything he heard about this man was totally true and that he really is that living legend, that great man and godlike driver. Michael, we miss you. You always showed us how good you are at strong comebacks, so please show us one more time that nothing can stop you from winning. We love you legend. You are our hero and whatever happens, you will never be forgotten.

Q: You were with Michael for 21 years when was he at his peak?
RB: We were dominant, but he won races we shouldn't have won. He was impressive to watch. His consistency, his speed and his work ethic. That was pretty special period. When you talk about a peak you talk about a guy who was at the pinnacle for the most of that time. You are comparing extremely high level of performance in all the years. In 94 when he won his first championship, he was incredible. We had very good car, but he was just exceptional. I think its difficult to define a peak because he flat-lined in a sense, but flat-line that was so high that it is difficult to pick out. I think that's the thing that impresses me most about Michael.
94 is terrible excample...fixed fuel system, tc, etc
I remember my childhood weekend mornings. The only thing that would make me get up early were Schumi's races.
It took me a few years before I became a fan of Michael. I knew he was great but supported my fellow Brits. However, I came to love him more than any other F1 driver , including the current ones. A fantastic driver. It's such a shame he is unable to be involved in the sport now
Agree mate!
What changed your mind? :)
He worked incredibly hard. In 2003, I went to a Bridgestone test at Silverstone. Ferrari and several other teams were there. Track was open 09:30 - 17:00 (doctor, emergency services etc on call during that time). All the teams except Ferrari packed up at 17:00 and went home. Michael, Luca Badoer and Ferrari didn't leave until 22:00.
When in 03?
@@markydubs416 I can't remember. I've just looked at my photos and realised they were taken with my non-digital camera and scanned in so even looking at 'properties' doesn't help. It was a fab three days. I'd never been in the paddock of any F1 event before ( nor since) and it was very special. I remember Jenson Button was grumpy, JPM was delightful and Mark Webber bumped the gate as he left the paddock in his road car! Best of all though was saying hello to Michael and getting his autograph.
Ron Dennis once said he wish Coulthard and Hakkinen were as much hardworking as Michael Schumacher.
What an interview. Fantastic insight into F1 at that time. Such an unsung hero Ross Brawn in the Ferrari story. Great mind. Calm, articulate and knew how to win.
I think F1 & I remember Michael Schumacher. The best ever in my opinion. Lewis might overtake his records but Michael won Titles he shouldn’t have a couple of years & missed out by a couple of points other years. He could have had 9. Unbelievable. A beast.
absolutely true
He hasn’t overtaken YET. He’s come alongside…2021 is putting up a fight.
I don’t want to see Lewis overtake Michael and it’s for sentimental reasons…not while Michael lives. It’s not just Lewis though.::.I wouldn’t want anyone to overtake him while he lives and cannot understand it. I want him to pass on knowing rightfully that his last memory as the GOAT still stands.
I readily admit even Michael himself said records are made to be broken , and he and Niki are responsible for bringing Lewis to Mercedes….I get it. This is a Me Being Sentimental Thing.
@@mamavswild Echo your thoughts entirely. Though, I respect Lewis as a really talented driver, I can't help feeling Michael is a cut above. There was something about Michael looking back at all those years, and, how straightforward it all looks now. Except, the hard work done by Michael was unbelievable by today's standards and this is what Michael represents.
I agree. 1997, '98, '99 were years he should've won. What makes it even more exceptional is that, Ferrari was a tin can those days! This period of F1 is why Michael has 85% of DNFs due to engine failure versus say, Lewis' 56%. Michael made the impossible, possible.
Which year should he have not won?
the great things about schumacher imo besides his speed and fighting attitude is that he can make a team fully support him
one more chicane to take , Michael ,keep fighting,we miss you bro.
You a Zappa fan by any chance?
In my opinion Best F1 driver all time.
He was from another level.
I love to watch his driving skills.
Fantastic interview. Michael is my hero and idol. I have all his race wins on tape for Ferrari. Not only is he to me the best F1 driver and Champion, but he is a great family man and his wife loves him very much. If I could meet any person on this planet it would be Michael. God bless you and your family Schumi. Forever in my heart. Keep on fighting CHAMPION.
Michael is still my all time hero. Had waited years for Ferrari success and he brought it by the bucket load. Felt like it would never end. Just a glorious time to be a Ferrari fan. Seems so long ago now. I’m still waiting for the next Michael. Would be nice to see Max in a Ferrari as I think he has the same out right driving skills as Michael. But not sure if he could mould Ferrari round him the way Michael did
Happy birthday number 50, Michael Schumacher! Michael Schumacher is simply the best Formula 1 driver in history! Greetings from Chile to all fans of Formula 1 and Michael Schumacher.
Micheal and Ross were a match made in f1 heaven.
Schuey is the best of his era and along with Fangio and Nuvolari the best 3 drivers of all time.
S G oh yes Micheal is the king with Fangio and nuvolari and also don't forget Jim Clark and sir Stirling moss and sir Jackie
I'll leave this here before starting the video.....this is going to be a great interview.
He is such a good person. Yes he was ruthless on track. I think we all are & in the heat of the moment we do react. He reacted, made mistakes but the sheer talent & the records he created makes him the best & definitely in the top 3 of all time along with Fangio & Senna
Michael is the best ambassador of f1. Whenever f1 comes in mind , the first thing that comes in mind is Schumacher in red car. No senna , no prost , no Hamilton or vettel #keepfightingMichael
"Crazy guy" but doesn't look much like it here lol
His Malboro Ferrari outfit is still popular today.
@@TheKestevon exactly
No one will ever match his records
@@henrywhatzal4724 People said the same thing when Fangio retired. :)
Micheal is the GOAT... period
Thank you Formula one for this tribute the day of his 50th birthday ❤❤
#KeepFightingMichael
Happy Birthday Michael you are the best Driver in the world for ever!!!!!!
Keep Fighting , genius !!!!
Arguably the best series on this channel. Keep it up!
Great interview, really good questions. Thanks.
Thank you Ross for sharing, Tom for the great questions and Michael for the amazing memories.
My childhood hero, I miss you. Hope you have a good birthday with your family!
#keepfightingMichael All the best to you and your family MS! And a big thanks to Ross for letting us dive inside his huge F1 experience. Some important info in this interview. And the fastest qual lap in Monaco 2012 was a highlight worth of being mentioned.
it would be nice to hear Mika Häkkinen... talking about racing against schumi😎
Mika was Michael's main rival. All these videos showing Alonso, Hill, Montoya etc etc, don't do it for me. They were secondary rivals. Mika was the MAIN opponent.
I'm sure he will get interviewed once. He has had such a great career and BTG has interviewed many awesome guests. Maybe during the monaco grand prix.
Mika Hakkinen is pretty active on Instagram now days. So he shares some things & I think last year he made small videos on Michael’s Instagram itself.
........ yes
Just imagine the hilarious one liners, the interviewer will have to work over time to get much out of Mika haha.
How Great that you brought Ross on...and that on Michaels 50th birthday. Love your podcasts and what you get out of your guests. Really revealing information that you wouldnt get normally!
Happy Birthday to you dear Michael Schumacher
he was my driver. i just loved his style and class. he was ruthless as a driver.. but thats what the best do and are. meeting him briefly in Montreal was amazing. he was so kind talking to us. its none of my business how he is now and questioning his family who have made it clear that they want privacy and respect should stop. lets face it its their family. we should respect
Ross, you are the essence of F1. Make it in your image and all will be well. Great interview as always. An interviwer's silence is golden. Thanks to both... Pete
Micheal is the GOAT of all time no doubt
Well done Tom, great piece of History, not a Schumi fan but he is still the standard to beat
I was never a fan of Schumacher, but this was a great interview. Ross Brawn is someone that I truly respect and would love to hear a podcast on his career alone. I don't think we'll see a season with Brawn GP in 09 for a long long time.
Back when I was a kid I didn't really know what exactly F1 was but I would often see a man in red in the sports section of the TV news on the race podiums and eventually I had heard and seen the name Schumacher be thrown around. Schumacher was so big as an icon, bigger than any other driver. Even Hamilton or Senna fans would have to concede.
I'm 25 now.. at the time I started to follow F1 in 2006.. I was like 13.. so I never really saw him winning a championship.. But I wad absolutely impressed by his talent.. I became his Fan.. He is the best of all time for me.. His records speak for themselves.. before signing for Ferrari They hadn't been champions for such a long time.. he changed that.. He is the Red Baron.. He will always be the Best!
Agree with you.
The only face on earth who donated US$10 million to the tsunami victims in 2004. GOAT!
I heard it was 50 million
And didn't make a fuss about it. He just did...
Here I was thinking I was going to have to go the whole break without this. This has just brightened my day and am looking forward to listening to it.
Keep fighting Michael
thank you for finally bringing in the frentzen story from jerez 97, I was the only one who was talking about that
they backed frentzen out of the race so he would be just ahead of them after they stopped, then he reversed Schumacher into Villeneuve, on top of Villeneuve doing it himself to Schumacher in japan, Williams were up for the tricks but only Ferrari/Irvine got the blame
wow nice podcast to start 2019 and celebrate Schumis birthday!
remember The 2004 French Grand Prix at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours? This race has become famous for a 4 stop strategy used by Michael Schumacher to beat Fernando Alonso's Renault.
This is still the best youtube channel ever. Just great content. 2019 was your best year. Keep up in 2020. By the way, what a great conversation with Ross Brawn.
thank you for this one, never been as hype for an interview!!
The most complete driver ever, the greatest F1 driver. 7 WDCs, no DRS needed. : - )
And he didn't had the best car at first.
Benneton ????!!!!!!
He help to build that winning Ferrari, and then the winning Mercedes too!!!
Michael the Best!!!!!!
Happy birthday🎉🎂
You are an eternal hero of everyone.
i absolutely loved this interview.
Michael is who I watched growing up, he was the one that drew me to formula 1. I owe him a great deal of thanks for that!
Shame they let Michael go after he got the Mercedes car ready, else he'd have a few more championships!
Ready for what? The Mercedes won very few races between Micheal arrival and departure. Those wins were at the hands of Lewis and Nico. The argument that he put Mercedes in a position to win all these championships is crazy because the cars from 2014 were completely different.
Yes So Lewis should be thankful for Micheal doing the development shakedown on the Mercedes.
@@truth4reel Brawn said years ago that Michael involved a lot in car development for 2014 regulations. Mercedes prepared for 2014 regulations much earlier than any other team. And Michael was offered the seat for this reason.
nico did better nico got the seat thats how the decision worked
Back when I started watching F1 back in 96-97 you either loved Michael or you were miserable. I was lucky to be a huge fan
96 97 was some of his best driving and ofcourse 1998. The challenges he made in those three seasons, no other driver could do. Out of this world with an average ferrari
I could listen to Ross Brawn all day long
This is great, love hearing people chat about those incredible racing days and Michael. #KeepFightingMichael
Super nice memories, Ross shared ! Thank you ! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Michael ! ! !
As much as I loved watching Michael and now hearing more insights into Michael, I do think this has been a lost opportunity to dive far deeper into and learning much much more about the genius that is Ross Brawn.
Brawn clearly says if MS was in the 1996 benetton car, the championship was there's again and everyone knows that the benetton was the second best car in 1996. So with that we all know that in 1994 and 1995 benetton was still the second best car. MS was a miracle worker. Like to see any LH fan boys tries to argue against Ross brawn. They all try to convince everyone that MS won 7 championships with the best car when its clear as day that 4 of the championships he didn't have the best car.
Yeah and majority of his career, Hamilton had a top car. Whereas Michael dragged ferrari to wins against the Williams of damon hill and jacques Villenueve. What makes it more astonishing is driving on slicks in Spain in 1996 and also when he came back from his broken leg injury to take pole in uis first race back in 1999. LH had luck to have been in a top car whereas MSC built ferrari into a top team and also built mercedes. Without MSC and Ross Brawn Mercedes would not have been as successful as they are now.
@@quickaston3167 the success would have been slow but the the most ridiculous of dominance between 2014 to 2016 would have never happened without brawn and MS.
Micheal keep fighting ,you will always be the greatest !
I personally love my fitness and it makes me happy knowing that Michael kept his fitness at a high level. Much respect!
I think when Michael changed from his old white-and-blue helmet design to solid Ferrari red, it was also rather symbolic of driver, car and team coming together to form a cohesive unit with synergy unmatched by any other team at the time to create that era of near-untouchable dominance in the early 2000's.
Thank you! Everyone has goosebumps!
52:18 Yep... Mika never said bad things about him to the media
That hour went quicker than I wanted
I could listen to Brawn talk about F1 all day long.
Ross is one fantastic personality and engineer. Formula1 would have been much poorer without both Ross and Michael. Thank you both for your passion and enthusiasm and expertise.
Amazing insight into the Jerez incident. You should have asked him about the fight with DC from Spa.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Together with Alain Prost's interview, my favorite one. Think no one knew in better than Ross on and off the track, so best choice to make.
We still love you Michael, keep fighting Champ!
In my humble op ion the best formula one driver of all time. Their may be other drivers that may even beat Michael's 7 world championships but they will never hold a place in their hearts like Mr Shumacher does , I hope too see this fella out and about again at some point sooner rather than latter
Yes Tom! Thank you so much for another great episode.
Just finished an audiobook with Ross and can't wait to finish the episode.
2 Gods of Formula 1 !!!
Schumi the best f1 driver ever!!
After watching the first few races he did I told my friends he will be world champion
I'm Nelson Piquet fan and I saw this: Lauda - Piquet in Brabham, same to Piquet - Schumacher in Beneton.... Maybe the best three of Formula 1 in all times....
Thank you Tom for this insightful interview with one the best F1 experts.

Michael is an idol to me I want to become a Driver like him at Formula one..
Michael I miss you very much the way you drive the Formula one car , the way you overtake, your strategy to win Races..👍👌..
F1 is very different without you, Michael. Keep fighting.
#keepfightingMichael
I am still waiting: beyond the grid: Michael Schumacher. #keepfightingmichael
Minor mistake at 8:10 - he was born in 1969, so he was 22 in '91 ;)
Your hotlaps are amazing mate keep it going
Manos Frantzas thank you so much :D!
I love Michael forever‼️
How on Earth did Schumacher manage to finish 3rd in 2005 in that awful Bridgestone package!?!?
he was a genious...
He always extracted the most from a difficult car, namely in 1996 and 2005. Some of his qualifying laps like in '05 were absolutely on the edge, he was trying so hard. It wasn't just the tyres that hampered the F2005, the aero regulations that restricted the rear diffuser size compromised their downforce and gearbox packaging.
From how much he raised the standards and minimum level of fitness and commitment, all current drivers are part Schumacher.
It's about time Ross was featured. Hope there's also one solely Ross.
I just hope in some time, rather sooner than later, we can hear such an interview with Michael himself... I know it may be highly unlikely, dependant on what you believe how his health status is... but when this day should come, I will be a very, very happy man.
Very well played TC! Greetings from Brazil :)
Thank you for making my day much better!!! #KeepFighting #ForzaSchumi
I realy hope he gets good in the future...
I would be awesome to see him again awake and maybe in the paddock
Happy b-day Michael Schumacher. Get better soon.

Great podcast - Really enjoyed listening to Ross Brawn on Michael. #keepfightingmichael
The 10 minutes focusing on Ross Brawn were good.
Thanks Ross, great insight into Michael.
The greatest champion of all time! I wish you'd recover old friend!
Excllent podcast, miss Michael...
Interesting to learn that Michael had to do some work outside of the car in the middle of 1996 to get the team shake up Ferrari needed. I don't know if Alonso or Vettel have put in that kind of work at Ferrari.
