Very much so. I watched some of his old videos of the other cabin but didn't start watching him until after that cabin was made. Watching from the beginning will be cool. I want so bad to build a cabin.

However, seeing as he's now chosen this very testing new path, I hope he builds a bigger and better cabin and finds himself able after a couple of years to find the life he's looking for.

You have unending energy and love of nature! I would have been devastated after completing compound 1 and deciding to leave. It’s 8:30 pm on a school night here in Australia and a tired teacher was getting ready to go to bed when “a quick look” on You Tube resulted in a video from Shawn and Cali! I have been watching since the beginning and love the Canadian wilderness and Cali’s antics in the background.
Have watched for years. Your mental discipline has served you well moving to this new site. Your creativity and bush skills are something no one can take from you. After almost a year i managed to go to our home in the countryside and i jumped around like a caged butterfly out of sheer joy. Started working on the garden, the flowerbeds, the new grapevines, you name it. I intend to paint the whole thing inside out when the weather becomes a little warmer. Nothing beats being out in the open.

Your journey in this past year has been enlightening for me. This is how one copes with unforseen circumstances and loss to begin a new path. By letting go and focusing on what lies ahead; taking those disciplined daily steps towards the goal(s), we survive.
So sorry you are having to build a new homestead but I think it was the right decision. But looking forward to you building all the buildings and watching you garden.
It’s absolutely wonderful to watch you build your homestead again. Although the current one was amazing to watch the progress, this one will be much greater. Your attention to detail and workmanship is truly inspiring.
Shawn, your personality and drive shows how the first pioneers that could build towns became successful. You would have had the general store, the bank, the saloon, and the sheriff's office which you would then in turn, give for someone else to take over that ownership and keep on building the town, a school, a doctor's office, a Pony Express Office, blacksmith, everything you would need. Your genes are showing.

Moose, Mushrooms and Maple Syrup...how Canadian Wilderness can you get?!?! Loved the winter but can't wait for spring to get on our property and get a cabin built.
You probobly know this but I will say it anyway :) When it gets warmer and the mycelium starts to spread, you can let the log fall to the ground, from standing, to simulate a tree falling. It stimulates mycelial growth enormously.
Take all the time that you need as we all grieve in our own particular way. There are going to be people who in 2 or 3 weeks will expect you to be over it. Forgive them and go on. Please remember with JOY the good things. Blessings on you and your family and friends and any livestock you might have wandering around the house and yard.

Years ago I fell into a spruce hole and was upside down in deep snow. It wasn't easy getting out. Ever since I used ski poles when snowshoeing. They add balance and can warn of danger.
What a pleasant surprise! Thought I had my days mixed up. When I saw Cali and moose in the description I was almost afraid to watch! Glad she's ok! I left my dog's with my grandma in Ontario fishing camp one time so we could go fishing without 3 dogs. One jumped off the dock and swam half way across the bay before I demanded that my husband turn around and go get her. When we got back from fishing my lab and husky had run away into the wilderness. Bears,moose,Bobcats! I was so worried! They were gone at least 8 hrs but returned unharmed.
The Workshop is looking great! Thinking of a nice manual pump well inside the cabin with a sink counter top work space. That would be great. Take care Shawn

The conifer/deciduous considerations was most interesting. May you NEVER see fire there!! I am really impressed with the many things you manufacture there. Even the workbench there is an engineering accomplishment. It is great to see someone actually work with a rule, pencil, square and REAL tools!! What you do it pretty darn good!! I am impressed!! Can't wait to see you build your outdoor kitchen as I loved your other one. Hope it's bigger and maybe put a roof over it and put a fireplace at the end so you can cook during the summer outside. With your wood experience you can build a outdoor kitchen table and chairs

Spring nights boiling sap in the sugar house is a favorite memory. Never made sugar tho. Hoping that we can see some of that process.

I think the area your bldg your new homestead on is more prettier than the former one, if thats possible! Are you gonna build an outside kitchen also? I am excited for you & wish you success in all your endeavers. Everything you build you put your own artistic twist on it which makes it not only unique but beautiful.
