I’ve been making okonomiyaki lately and it’s so gooood. Also I made okonomiyaki sauce myself. It’s still not exactly like in Japan but CLOSE: Okonomiyaki sauce:
    1 tblsp ketchup
    1 tblsp worchester sauce
    1 tsp honey
    1/2 tsp soy sauce

    • @ChaosCause3000

Sharla, very nice presentation and explanantion skills.
My kids know how to make this, but still wanted to try yours.
    2 pts for others
    1) make batter ahead and put in fridge (great for busy families). Prep cabbage and whatever else you want. Mix cabbage in when ready to cook. Also makes pancake firm so less likely to run away.
Add'l note: We use a portable griddle on the table and dinner time has a lot of conversation. As we make and wait.
    2) Some Asian stores in Denver area sell Okonomiyaki flour in case sone people want a simplier way to prep.
    Thanks again!

OKONOMIYAKI 🤗When I miss Japan, it is often a food memory that triggers the feeling. I love and miss Japanese cuisine. Sharing a meal makes people like each other or as the feel closer with strong bond. Eating the same food leads to trust and cooperation because they feel closer with the feeling of intimacy among those eating together, share the experience with eating and drinking. Get off Corona Virus, I miss friends and family…

Another vegan alternative to the egg for okonomiyaki is 1-2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar! Works just as well and once cooked there's no vinegar smell 😊👌
P.S. for the sauce, at least in Australia, Bull dog (brand) tonkatsu sauce and the japanese mayonaise (kewpie) are available and will taste closer to the authenitc thing!

I do already follow a few Japanese cooking blogs/TH-camrs, but it's also nice to see very down to earth home cooking videos from someone who lives there, I'd definitely like to see more!
I have tried both of these before but neither went so well, I omitted the yamaimo as I can't buy it here, but I could tell that it's necessary. I also didn't know that you could substitute it with flax seeds or eggs. The mochi I made was too thick and I thought I did something wrong, so thank you for the tips you gave for both recipes, I'll definitely try them again thanks to that!

Sharmeleon another thing I do - while not vegan but I’m sure there are substitutes- is to add thin strips of pork (bacon could work too) to the top of the okonomiyaki, then flip it over and let it cook. might take a few more mins to fully cook the meat through but it certainly adds some new flavor and texture to make things interesting

I LOVE making okonomiyaki! When I make it I put mushrooms and onions in it. I can't wait till the day I finally get to go to Japan and try the real thing.

@wheeler1 I mean in general with recipes, the texture of the mochi is described as like squeezing an earlobe

That is actually what they say in Japan to describe the mochi texture haha

My local ramen shop in California makes okonomiyaki fries. They are absolutely addictive. I will definitely try your recipe.

Yes, finally I can make okonomiyaki at home! I always wanted to know how it tastes as it looks delicious and despite here being lots of japanese-type of cafes/restaurants, none of them seem to serve okonomiyaki ;w; I'm so glad you decided to make this video!^^

If you are looking for super clean veg, there's a spray called Veggie Wash made from coconut you can get, on Amazon or Ebay, you spray it on and rinse off, and it gets pesticides and soil etc off. I have a bottle and it lasts ages. Much better than just rinsing!
I live in an English village so no Japanese shops but there's Japanese food shops online, and of course Ocado has a pretty decent range of Japanese food and cooking sauces etc. I'll try the strawberries definitely, dunno about the pancake it kinda looks like a Jackson Pollock painting!
You're a Taurus, (😊) so it says on Wiki, same as me, explains the foodie/cat/toys/kawaii thing!

I love making okonomiyaki! I learned to make in while living in kansai and now it's my go to food for when I'm lazy. Becausr we can only buy whole cabbages here I cut it all up and freeze it so I can take just what I need for one👌 lately I've been putting in もやし as well for a bit of crunch!

Here in the states you can get prepackaged shredded cabbage with carrots. Makes for a great okonomiyaki!

I don’t remember which video it was
where you passed on an okonomiyaki because of the tororo, but i really love how you include it in the ingredients. I understand tororo can be polarizing (like natto, there are many Japanese who dislike it) but as an ingredient, it can make a dish better.
