Yellow BIG BOY was Actually REAL!!!!! In 1987, loco 4017 4-8-8-4 at the NATIONAL RAILROAD MUSEUM in Green Bay Wisconsin, was sandblasted, then Primer painted 🎨 with Bright Yellow!!!!! I made a 35mm color Koadchrome Slide of the left side ,(South), of the Fireman's side, when it was parked on the front curve of Track 1 for the large McCormick Pavillion. But 3 weeks later the new owners of the Museum wanted to move it forward to clear the switch. But sadly, the 4 middle driving wheels derailed on either end of the middle cylinders. Then the new owners had to wait until the next weekend, and the C&NW RR sent 2 EMD GP7 Diesels. And a 50 foot gondola as a spacer unit. Then after 3 hours of very hard work, 4017 was back on the rzils!! The story was in Both of the G.B. Newspapers with color photos 📸. Then the 2 GP7's pushed 4017 backwards onto its new display track , but Outside the North Wall of the Pavillion. Then about a month later the new black paint with white stripes was finished, with the Glossy Black paint as shiny as a mirror!!!! YET sadly, the new paint was completely ruined and faded after only 2 years of outside storage 😫 😢!!!!! And there were many blue streaks of rust running down from the rivets on the boiler on the firebox stay bolts 🔩.! Then another coat of black paint was sprayed on. But was also quickly faded again!! Sadly, it wasn't until 2001 when the New Fuller Hall was built, then 4017 was shoved back onto another new track during winter, and afterwards, the new building was built up around 4017, and along with others like the British A4 60008 Eisenhower, and PRR GG1 4890. Thus now in 2023A.D., 4017 has been Trapped inside the Exhibit Hall for 22 Years.!!!! Although the next new managers of NRRM have announced a new plan for a new building and fund raising campaign. Thus, maybe BIG BOY 4017 might be moving once more????? But Not the end yet.
I’m soooo tempted!!! BTW the O gauge Mebane Train Display is open this Saturday from 10-2 at 129 W Jackson St. In Mebane, NC. I’ll be running the trains. Hope to see you there since you live in this area!
I grew up going to his store with my late grandfather I wonder if jeff remembers me? And if I could afford his custom run engine i'd get totally because that store was my childhood
Oil tender with a coal burning locomotive, which is evident because the two large handwheels located engineers side are still present. Those are part of the grate equipment and are removed when converted to oil.
I believe all the Lionel models have them, so his choice to highlight them even if not 100% prototypical doesn’t look terrible. But being fantasy, why not have them! It’s a cool touch IMO.
@@gizmotrains I have been regressing. Another youtuber posts his S and O scale models he has collected from the 20's, 30's and 40's. Amazingly detailed for the time period some are handcrafted from scratch. I would love to have those than the new stuff. I think I was born 70 years to early.
So-called fantasy paint schemes are just an absurd effort on Lionel's part in order to sell ridiculously expensive locomotives. It's much easier to come up with a ridiculous pay scheme that is to come up with quality locomotive. $3,000 really. Just like Harley-Davidson old crap with new paint. Totally pathetic shake my head at this type of shit. This is what they come up with Goofy paint schemes. So damn sad. But people buy this crap it will be discounted after it sits on dealer shelves for a year and then the flippers will buy them and when they are sold out they will put them on eBay for twice as much money.
The BigBoy wouldn’t be “Boring” if it wasn’t way over done. I’m sure many would like this but it’s definitely not anything I’d spend $3,000 on.

Yeah, my local hobby store has a S1 in a ugly fantasy paint red color. It looks like a 2,000 dollar dildo 😂
