  • Pure jiu-jitsu vs experienced muay thai fighter in an MMA fight. This was my debut fight at Dragon House MMA at Kezar Pavillion in San Francisco back in May 2013. I'm the competitor in the red.

I could have beaten you because my fighting style is a combination of Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, and Scooby Do.

Dude how the fuck did he survive that triangle choke for that long? What a beast!

He didn't win by triangle choke, but by creative armbar. Skills were displayed.

As a BJJ practitioner, it's annoying people try to say one is better than the other. If you want actual self-defense knowledge then you should practice both. If you're looking for one martial art to do as a lifestyle get a free trial at both and see which one is more appealing to you.

That. Is how you effectively use a triangle choke. Ya hook their legs when they posture to cut the angle while preventing slams, and switch to armbar when they don’t tap. So many people forget about that. 🤦🏻‍♂️

i love how you held on to his leg to keep him from pulling up and slamming you to the mat.

Gotta love that finish. Notice how he kept the triangle when attacking the arm as opposed to transitioning and potentially losing position while attempting a traditional armbar. Respect and great fight.

Experienced Muay Thai fighter my ass. He doesn’t move or strike in a way that suggests he’s ever trained Muay Thai, let alone actually fought.

How much Jiu jitsu experience did you have at the time? Did you train any striking at all or was it a purely ground game gameplan?

I was kinda shocked you pulled guard so quickly, but I guess that's what you had available to close the distance on a striker. But you were locked on that guy.

I do BJJ and I still never see a triangle coming. It happens behind your head. You don't know until it's too late.

You'll notice that the jiu jitsu fighter has one of the muay thai fighter's arms trapped between his legs. In this situation, instead of trying to pull out, try to get the other arm in between his legs. If you can get both arms in, the tension needed to create an effective lock will be lost.

Very Nice match. Why do you think he wasn't tapping/passing out to the triangle after
