Speed 2 looks like a fantastic 5k-10k shoe. I think a part of the issue for many with the speed 3 and 4 is the width increase combined with the weight can really make the shoe feel meh for speedy runs if you have narrow feet especially. On a side note. Really happy to see good human beings like yourself that work hard, study are a partner and father too while chasing a dream. Genuinely wish you nothing but the best and congratz on the growth of the channel

As a narrow-footed runner, I 100% agree. The fit of the Speed 2 is perfect for 10k distance and I have run up to a 1/2 in them. Gald I bought and extra pair when I had the chance!

I can recommend the Nathan light bender RX LED band. It's not a vest but it's just a super comfy light strip you can put on your arm(s). Some people buy multiple but I just wear the one with my headlamp. I think it's dope. Has different light colors and flash options too.

    YES 🔥🔥🔥
the OG Speed 2 meant speed workouts + threshold (notice the midsole is lower to the ground with 5 mm drop) while Speed 3 & 4 became fast "daily trainers".
I still have 2 pairs of Endorphin speed 2 that I fully enjoy running in, and because I heard so many complains about the speed 3, I kept loading up on speed 2s without giving a damn.

Can’t thank you enough for this video!!! As a Speed 2 lover, I needed this. I’m on my second pair and was waiting on the 3’s to go on sale before checking them out. Reviews on those vs the 2’s seem to be all over the map but your review brings clarity.
I got lucky and just found a pair of 2’s in my size online at champs and ordered them. Ugly color way but I don’t care, I want that magic in the midsole!
I only do one 6 mile run a week so I want it to fun while also helping my pace. Sounds like the 2 is better than the 3 or 4 to accomplish this.

I have the Takumi sen 8 to fill in the void that my Speed 2's used to fill, but the Speed 2's could also do longer runs up to half marathon where I wouldn't feel comfortable in the Sen 8. The Speed 2 is an amazing shoe for tempo, threshold, and longer interval workouts. It could easily be a race-day shoe for some people. It is the Endorphin Pro 2 without the harshness of the carbon plate. Your video seals the deal for me when I need to retire my current pairs: I'm getting the Takumi Sen.

This was an interesting comparison. I did see commenters in other videos suggesting the Asics Magic Speed might be a decent alternative for those who think the Speed 3/4 have been tamed too much. This may be especially true if Asics puts FF Turbo in the Magic Speed 4; they've already done it in the S4.

The speed 3 (and now 4) is not an evolution of the 2 .. I have owned most of the endorphin line since the speed1 and pro1 for me the elite is the successor to the pro+ which was a succesor to the pro 2 etc and the pro3 is the succesor of the speed 1 & 2 . I initially disliked the speed 3 , until i realised that it was not a tempo /race pace shoe (dispite what the marketing said) , it was a poppy daily trainer. I have recently pulled it out of the garage and I am enjoying it for what it is.

Interesting review. Glad to see I'm not the only stashing an extra pair of ES2 in my cupboard! My ES1 are still fine after 500km and are still good for racing as well for people who feel carbon plated shoes are too hard. I agree stability isn't great and can be an issue in sharp turns but still think it is a great all rounder. Thanks for recommending the Takumi Sen as a potential replacement because to me ES3 is more a daily trainer and has nothing to do with ES1/2. Saucony is probably trying to reach out to a wider customer base by making it softer.

Speed 1&2 was too unstable for my handicap, but this is how I feel about Pro 2. And why I stocked up on them after being let down with Pro 3. Certain shoes just do it for certain people and as much as I couldn’t get on with it, I see how people could live the Speed 2. And how disappointing it is when they change your favorite shoe of all time.

A great speed workout i love to test going up through the gears...
    2 x 3 min @ half marathon pace
With 2 min jog recovery inbetween
    2 x 1 min 30 @ 10k pace
With 1 min 30 sec jog recovery inbetween
    4 x 1 min @ 5K pace
With 1 min jog recovery inbetween
    4 x 30 sec @ 800m pace
With 30 sec jog recovery inbetween
4 x 15 sec as fast as you can at that point!
With 15 sec jog recovery inbetween.
It's a workout i always feel great from after completing! It also gives some good experience in the feel of running at different paces and switching between them, so my race paces feel more natural and easier to 'lock' in to without looking at my watch every 30 seconds!

Durability on the Speed 2 will not be an issue. I had the Speed 1 which had the same midsole and outsole as the Speed 2. I took them to 415 miles before retiring due to the midsole feeling “dead”. The outsole though, probably could’ve gone for another 200-300+. The XT900 rubber compound used on the Speed 1/2 is incredible from a durability standpoint.

For me, the Speed 2 felt unstable, like the midsole was only in certain narrow spots and not cushioned across the shoe. I hated it. As for a workout suggestion: a staple in marathon training for me is the critical velocity workout: 1 km @ critical velocity, 1 minute walking recovery, repeat. I build up to 10 x 1 km. I'm another one who thinks the Speed 2 is the best shoe I've ever run in. Still remember the first time I tried on the Speed 1, and it was as thought the shoe *wanted* me to go for a run. The speed 2s were even better. I suspect the changes Saucony made to the Speed were to address the issue of heel stability, but I feel stability was only an issue when running slowly - any pace above 5:30/km for me and I had no problems at all. In this respect, the latest speed shoes feel "dumbed down", and this is disappointing, as the clue is in the name - the shoe was never intended for easy miles.
I'll look out for a pair of Takumi Sens as my last pair of Speed 2s is just about spent, and the Speed 3s just don't fill that gap for me.

Stretchy upper = BAD. Also looks like you are braking on your slower paces based on the wear pattern of your shoes, which means you have the classic imbalance most of us do. Some focused strength and conditioning might free up some untapped potential at the half and especially full marathon distance.
    Keep up the great content!

You mentioned the Adidas Takumi Sen as another shoe compared to the Speed 2, any thoughts on how the ASICS Magic Speed 3 would stack up in this lineup? I tend to prefer a firmer ride as well.

Never had the speed series but I have run and race in the pro series..1 and 2 were very fast but not friendly at all..really beat up your feet..ditto for the pro3 cos it goes flat pretty quickly..I now use the Mizuno pro and beat my PBs in that shoe and my feet always feel good afterwards..looking forward to the new Mizuno pro 2..😊

Not particularly fast either. Maybe I just dont know how to run correctIy? I prefer the Pegasus Turbo 1 or Pegasus 39 for slower, longer runs

I kindly disagree agree sir. But speed 1 in future black noir is the best speed version EVER made. I have an extra unused pair that is vacuum pack in storage. @@st4331 It's interesting that the Speed 2 feels unstable to some, but to me, it feels very stable. I regularly take it on trails and have no issues other than the outsole sucks. In fact, if it had a more grippy, durable outsole it would be a great trail shoe for me.
