Great in-depth review appreciate the human integrity you bring to your channel made it clear for me on why and which shoe for my running style The Vaporfly Keep cranking out the Supwell
For someone who’s never tried a Vaporfly before - which version would you recommend for someone who’s a bigger runner? 6’2” 220lbs heel/midfoot striker, 21:00 5K/2:00:00 half
Thanks so much for such a detailed review of both the shoes. Your explanations for very in-depth and concise. If I happen to buy a pair of these shoes for a race like a marathon, should i wear it to the marathon completely new just out of the box, or should i wear it after some miles of training it? Keep up the good work! 👍
thanks dennis! i like to run in my race shoes two or three times before with at least one race pace workout. that's enough to get used to the feel without putting too many miles in them so that the performance decreases (also keeps 'em feeling special). also if you buy one of these, you can use my links below or any through my website www.supwell.io to help support the channel! vaporfly link: www.runningwarehouse.com/Nike_Vaporfly_Next_3/descpage-NZVN3M8.html?from=supwell alphafly link: www.runningwarehouse.com/Nike_Alphafly_Next_3/descpage-DSH69GD.html?from=supwell (sold out now but new colorways dropping april)
I got the alphafly 3 this AM, size 8 because my usual size 8.5 was sold out somehow 20 seconds in. Hope they fit, if not, they’re going back. Sizing for running is too important. I was just too excited and had to try these. The first alpha fly has been my go to for years. I’ve had 2 pairs already, hope this pair lives up to the name.
wow you're one of the lucky ones! might be a little bit tight but i'm sure you can sell to another runner if it doesn't work - let me know how it goes once you get some miles in it
If you watch kipchoge foot strike you know why he loves the alphaflys..he could throw away the back half of the shoe cos it's all forefoot all the time..his foot strike wipes out the forefoot cushioning of the vaporfly quickly and leaving him with a cheap flip flop under his feet..been there, done that..nice comparison video..
AF V3 just got delivered. Initial step in comfort is amazing. I always felt the arch in the V1, but it disappeared when running. V2 also felt great, no issues. But I did feel it was a tad heavy/bulky after my last marathon. V3 doesn't feel harsh at all, and I can really feel the toe spring/rocker tipping me forward. Weights for US 9.5 for my own shoes: AF V1 7.9oz / 225g AF V2 8.65oz / 246g AF V3 7.55oz / 215g
Nice I hope you enjoy - let me know how you're getting along with it as you get some more miles in! And the Wright difference from your v2 to v3 is wild
@@supwell After a treadmill work out I found the AlphaFly V3 are the perfect blend of V1 and V2, all the good and none of the bad. Light, smooth, stable and not crazy bouncy. Don't intend to use them again till week 13 or 14 of my block. Since I have tons of other options for workouts.
I tried both, and I did not like the Vaporfly, however I did try the Alphafly 3 yesterday for a quality session and oh boy these FLY, I ran at a higher than my usual pace and felt really easy.
Great video and greetings from CLT! Got the Alphafly 3’s yesterday. On the fence about keeping them. I have a wide-ish foot and I’m not sure I’d be able to make it a full marathon in them. Looking for a shoe for a spring race. Fall back shoes are Endorphin Pro 3 or maybe the No SC Elite V4.
Thanks and hello fellow charlottean! Congrats on winning the Alphafly 3 sweepstakes haha I'm sure you can sell 'em easily if they don't work. Pro 3 is comfortable but not the widest fit - SC Elite v3 comes in wide so might be what you're looking for. Assuming the SC Elite v4 will as well - regular version releases 2/1 so we'll see if they release wide with it at the same time
As a track runner I feel like this is very similar to comparing the dragonfly to the air zoom victory, from everything upper being the same having the pods
I tried the victory’s at the last meet and I have an upcoming meet that I’m going to try the dragonfly’s at, but from what I’ve done so far probably the victory’s
I LOVE Vaporflies for marathons, half, 10k and 5k. Now I’m very excites with Endorphine Elite and I think that Elite is a great mix between the smooth transition if Vaporfly and the brutal rebound of Alpha. Alpha v3 is in your opinión faster than Elite? I’m very surprised with Elite’s rebound, roll and energy return.
I ended up buying the vaporfly 3 “Ekiden pack” colorway. After you video seems its going to work best for me since im a hybrid athlete “heavier”. Those alphafly sold in minutes didn’t get a chance 😢
Which shoe would be better for a 3 mile cross country race? I wore the EK Vaporfly 3 for my season a month ago and since the vaporlfly 4 won't release till later, I'm wondering if the technology of the alphalfy might be better for me when my season starts August 2024. Also, I'm wondering if you have any other suggestions on racing shoes for 3 mile
vaporfly is a good option if you like the soft cushion, but i would also look at a lower stack, lighter shoe. there are a few in this category designed for 5k racing (new balance sc pacer, nike streakfly, hoka cielo road) but the adidas takumi sen is my favorite - it's nice and bouncy but a little firmer and faster feeling than the vaporfly. also has better traction than the vaporfly which might be better for cross country depending on the course. i have the takumi sen 8 used it in my comparison video recently against the alphafly and vaporfly th-cam.com/video/eXNB2p0DJig/w-d-xo.html (if you don't want to watch the full video you can skip to 18:34 to see me talk about the shoe). also the next gen takumi sen 10 is coming out soon and will be available before your season starts in august if you want to hold off to buy - they're making a few small changes that should make it feel a touch faster (switching the rods to carbon from glass fiber and adding more forefoot foam). hope this helps and shout with any questions
@@supwell thanks good to know. tried 9.5 my usual in a store and they felt good, but clerk said to consider going up a half in them for marathon in case feet swell. i wear 9.5 in the vf2 and the 3 felt more comfortable in the same size. I'm 9.5 in topo cyclone and most other major brand stuff. atreyus are all 10.
The Alphafly is a little more accommodating but neither of those are the most comfortable/best fitting race shoes if you need extra support. Out of the shoes I've beeen testing recently the TYR Valkyrie elite and new balance sc elite v4 are the best if you need foot support
out of these two, i would prefer the vaporfly for that - it has a little more groundfeel which is better for short distances. but neither of them would be my first choice - i would go for the takumi sen. it has a great grippy outsole for the grass and is lower stack which for me feels faster over short distances
Yooo great review! I really thought the Alpha 3 would be a much more friendly version for non elites since they said it is so much smoother and better, but I guess still it's really meant for the ELITE ELITES. I had the 2s and unfortunately they were popped by a spiky thing so now I am scared to buy another alpha🥲. I guess I stick to the vapor just for the softer and more versatile package :)
I didn't have any issues with stability in it when running fast and landing toward the front of the platform. If you are a mid/forefoot striker they should be okay - the only watchout is the rear landing platform still doesn't feel that substantial since the foam doesn't extend beyond the heel
@supwell No joke, I was thinking the same thing lol. The way certain sizes got purchased instantly, I knew it was bots. At 10am est., several sizes sold out instantly and DSG wasn't even working correctly. When I went back to try again at 10:04 on a long shot, some sizes reappeared. The bank account the Bots were linked to didn't have sufficient funds I'm guessing, that's the only way we had a chance to buy them.😆

in this context i was comparing myself to elites, who are anywhere from 110 (kipchoege) to 140 (kelvin kiptum). i'm 160 and consider myself on the heavier end (definitely when compared to elites) and because i'm taller and run with a relatively lower cadence, so i put a lot of weight/force down on each footstrike
