Sorry to disappoint but the fact is (They long to be) Close to You was released August 19, 1970. We knew Karen as a very loved voice of the seventies. She was only drumming in the 60's to folk rock. She was yet to be signed to A&M records. A better choice here would have been Diana Ross and the Supremes.

nancy was the best back in the '60's..her poster was in my locker when I was on the uss coral sea, back in '68-'69. if I recall, I traded her for a pack of smokes!---LOL!!!!!!
Back when female singers like these wonderfully talented women, along with the the likes of Connie Francis, Eydie Gorme, and Marilynne McCoo, could entertain, without the histrionics, tatoos, twerking, crotch holding or simulated sex acts that have become the "norm" for the NO OR LITTLE TALENT wanna-be strippers and hookers who dominate the current music industry. So very glad that I grew up listening to those who possessed true God-given talent, and needed NO GIMMICKS to "entertain" their audience.

C’mon...This is a video featuring full-grown, legal age WOMEN, NOT GIRLS, as the title says. None of the singers featured in it were teenagers. In fact, Petula Clark was pushing 30! “Girls,” indeed...
Get off that track already! The women themselves frequently refer to themselves in a group as girls! They're proud of it, so if they aren't offended by it, why are you?
Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice and the 60's and 70's was the best. I really miss those days

Karen was only 21 here. Nobody had a better contralto (lowest register for female singers) than Karen Carpenter!

Apart from one, not particularly sensational, album released in 1969 Karen Carpenter was a SEVENTIES girl singer, not a 60s one.
