You are absolutely correct about the tendon/bone stress vs muscle stress part. In bodybuilding this is actually something we want to avoid, so we do very slow, controlled sets with no sudden movement so the stress is on the muscle. But in armwrestling the opposite is true, where the strength of the connective tissue and bones is arguably more important.
I concur with the short impulse driving bone and tendon remodeling. It reminds me of papers discussing bone microcracks and thier role in (healthy) bone remodeling, which always involves collagen synthesis... in other words it's like the hammer action of the short duration impulses drive forces into the bone which put enough stress to cause micro-damage, which then calls to action higher collagen synthesis and tendon remodeling along with it. Thank you Louie for the genius and thank you Todd for the adaptation to AW. Awesome stuff man.
Lmao people are actually arguing with your training methods here? I only read comments for the humor, otherwise you'll run into the experts of everything here lol
Probably some confusion, the Westside barbell system maxs out twice a week...... once lower body, once upper body for powerlifting. Clearly not the same sport :|
Perhaps some got valid points after all todzilla is not a prophet or his words are holy and can’t be disputed specially when other armwrestlers disagree with him,
Do a collab with Bob Brown! He always mentions you in his conjugate method videos and I would personally love to see a video of you two sharing your views with each other
just got introduced to this style of training. I remember when i started out watching this video and thinking man what is this guy talking about. Now i'm so deep in the training optimization rabbit hole and i've landed upon the same style of training you're utilizing. I'm genuinely learning so much, thank you. Will get on that playlist asap
TH-cam algorithm boosting comment 💪 ... 6:24 Toddzilla, u r incorrect about that law, not all objects are attracted to redheads, simply all object are pulled into the redheads, because they cannot resist their power. Small correction tho, u were almost correct!
I agree, speed work does affect my tendons and joints more than my muscle fibers. I feel it more in my ligaments during any barbell band speed work than muscles.
One of if not the most intelligent pullers in the game. I think Zilla found out everything he needed to during that practice pull w mmt.. Hence why he done it. Hutchings atw
Makes sense explosion on bench and squats adds power big time. Young men never listen I didn't either in my day. 1 time a week even bodybuilding one muscle group a week in the gym. Example chest monday, back tuesday, arms wednesday, legs thursday, and Friday shoulders. So arm wrestling I'd lay all money on it toddzilla is 100% correct with what he is saying.
Great video. Great explanation. Just PERFECT! Can you please do a video about your machine and cables where you bought them how u conected them and everything. I'm still Young and don't understand it Competely. Thanks
I have a crane scale like your fancy one....."peak hold" function on mine requires a manual press to hold the highest number....which as you've discovered is useless......next time you buy one.....make sure the function is"peak force" not "peak hold" then you'll have the function you're after
World elite sprinters at max velocity deal with ridiculously huge forces through their Achilles tendons with each footstep but usually have small skinny calf muscles to match.
As far as i know "speed day" is mainly used to train your nervous system to activate all your muscles as quickly as possible. Atleast that was what i was taught when i studied for PT 🤷♂️ I don't know about strengthening your bones and ligaments, but i guess it's close to how people train iron fist (all the videos people are breaking bricks and other stuff with their bare hands). Similar training method as far as i know. Quick, not hitting to hard to start strengthening the bones in the hand creating all those microcracks in the bones.
You should take a look at Calvin Dietz triphasic training. Hyper speed days+supramax eccentics and all the zones. Best SSC in my opinion currently. He took alot from loui goat simmons. Are you doing restoration tbh?
I heard some research about the last comment too! It's well known with calves, if you bounce on the tips of your feet it's basically your strong tendons that store a lot of energy and give it back and the muscle is not very active compared to a control calves raise.
Hi, Uncle Todd! I have been following your WSBB program for about 6 mo. Do you recommend always going to 1RM on Wednesday Max Day? Or is it okay to switch it up with slightly more volume on Wednesday, like 3 x 3? Love your videos. XOXO
@@toddhutchings906 Thanks Uncle Todd! Btw…I hope that your recent injuries are on the mend and you make a 💯 recovery. I was really looking forward to watching you destroy Ryan Bowen. Maybe in the future??
LOL no wonder he's so good, he trains based off science & intelligence instead of just brute force & strength like the rest of us. LOL I wactched all 10:41 and still dont know what he was teaching
F(force)=M(mass)A(acceleration) so we're lowering weight but increasing the velocity of reps hence increasing the amount of force we exert to move the weight at a given speed. That hard stop creates a very abrupt end range of motion and exponentially increases mass and results in even more force generated. Using bands with all of this allows constant mass irregardless of gravity or momentum of the weight being accelerated. It also increases tension the more you stretch it, again increasing mass and force. In summary Todd's pretty smart :)
@UCaIDN33sAZZi1YO7-GviCTg Todd's speed day he isn't lowering weight to 25% or anything super low he's still working with ~70% of his 1 RM so while it is a lighter weight it's not flinging around a 10 pound weight. it's still fairly heavy and all these other things he's added to it means while it's not nearly as taxing as doing +90% of your 1 RM and it's still getting a great amount of force into your wrist, elbow, shoulder, and lat. I'd even argue that it has more carryover to armwrestling than a 1RM since you're focused on rapidly moving the weight, 1 RM's are great but armwrestling is different than powerlifting for example. With powerlifting you can lift the weight as fast/slow as you want. In armwrestling you have to be fast to even stop the match let alone be offensive off the go.
If you incrase speed in the equation, why can you not instead increase mass, like regular strenght training? if the force generation is the same, is it not then the same ligament- and muscle damage and training adaptability?

We are looking for an alternate to multiple heavy training days. Speed day was created to provide better recovery from multiple heavy training days.
