I don’t know how Bruce gets away with driving race cars on public streets and Highways. Scott’s Valley police gives tickets in store parking lots. Guess he gets a free pass.
This is the kind of activity that legends find themselves taking part in. Simply spectacular and would I think the car world would love to see some of the shakedowns that Bruce does in high quality. You could have quite a large audience I believe. Canepa has the opportunity to make some of the world's finest automotive content with the knowledge and caliber of machinery.
They remind me of gear shifts on an air cooled 911 - a throaty build up of revs, then a pause, then another build up of revs, followed by another pause.
Yeah ! What the noise !!!! Exceptional and driving this legendary car on the road without a helmet, a dream (but for your eardrums). Thank you so much for these first version of the phenomenal 917 !! Love it.
Original Saratoga Rat here. Raced Gravity Bike on Hwy 9 in the 70s and 80s. I recognized the area instantly. Don't miss the Bay Area but I miss 17-skyline 35, Hwy 9. Beautiful roads.. Thanks for the ride.
But how many cupholders init? Seriously, amazing how it rolled over sharp-looking bumps entering garage at the end. Same dampeners as original (rebuilt) or new Ohlins, WP, etc.? Cheers!
Agreed. I went on a organized drive a couple of weeks ago, and we toured his facility. We happened to meet him coming in as we were leaving, and he spent quite a while standing in the parking lot talking with us. He told all kinds of great stories and took us across the street and showed us his other showroom, and spent even more time chatting with us, super laid back, and very nice. It was a highlight of the drive.
Absolutely amazing!!!! I can only imagine the looks you got when you drove by cars 1/3 your size!!! Has the CHP ever stopped you??? Now THAT would be an interesting conversation!
The fact that I knew folks in the 80's that would pay you to take one of these "Old broken cars" out of their garage to the scrapyard makes my heart cry. I worked in a scrapyard that we lived near by in the rural Chicago suburbs. Just for cash and parts, an schtuff...Id go along on a pickup to Inverness, Barrington hills, or even downtown in a storage place once. And wed be looking at cars I had not the foggiest notion about. All I knew was rich people cold only buy them. And when we took them apart we could NOT SCRATCH ANYTHING..!!!. Thats the owner crying at me. Lol, did my best. But we salvaged so many cars i remember many now when I see them listed. And at sooo much$. I'm like Hey I remember we took apart a car like that's interior UPSIDE DOWN! In the winter, because it was wrecked and the contents of someones cranium were still pooled in the roof/headliner hair, bone, stuff lil tiny things here and there that were of a deceased human. So the boss always made me be serious there and not crack jokes. I understand now why he was somber. A fine Italian car had died!
Well thank you that made my day. I prob would have crashed if I saw that coming up behind me on the freeway. Please do more cars on that Freeway shifting anf hammering it. Please a 935. 934 906 908 910 RSR hell 427 cobra etc
Absolutely amazing footage. One of my favorite cars. How did you get away with doing that on a public road? Why not taker it to a race track? Surely that would be safer....
imagine being on that road, and you just see a 917 casually driving about. i would lose my mind. also that f12 is one of the best sounding engines ever.
Is this a fantastic replica, or a genuine first 25 chassis numbers car. Strange to put it as #30, as that was the number on one of the Spa entries in 1969, it did not have the long tail extension for that race. Be interesting to know the chassis number. Thanks for the upload.
@TinyBearTim the first 25 cars for homologation were were all shown as short tails with the additional bolt on tail extension. The cars ran without the extension at Spa, Nurburgring and Austria. After running at the Ring ,Frank Gardner said the handling was terrific, a mixture of Terrible and Horrific, Gardner and David Piper were called in to drive the single car, as the regular Porsche drivers preferred the 908 Spyder. But for the clutch failure , Elford/Atwood very nearly won Le Mans in 1969 with the 917 Langheck.. A fabulous car, Bruce is a very lucky man.
at Lemans in1971 a 917 went 3400 miles in 24 hours , if it was traveling at 100 mph that would be 3,400 miles in 34 hours.. any ways the average speed it went was 139 mph
Get out your H pattern shifter and enable the clutch and then try driving this thing in the simulator. Forza 7 or Assetto Corsa. Good luck getting it around the track. This thing is unruly.
Just a normal day in Scotts Valley, Oh look is that a 917 making a left turn.
Most people wouldn't know what a 917 is.
I would freak out.
@@ajs3994 Lol, If I was in the car with my wife I'd be screaming like a little kid "917! 917!"

Scotts Valley is in Ca not Oh.
This has to be one of the nicest sounding engines of all time. Just magical.
100%
Eh, my Lamborghini sounds better and can out perform this relic.
@@doriangray2020 ta Lamborghini n'a jamais été titré au Mans ni ailleurs .. contrairement à cette Porsche 😊
@@minutepapillon5060 Exactly, Le Mans is what I think when I see this Porsche.
Bruce coming into the garage, "SHUT THE DOOR! ..SHUT THE DOOR!!!!"
🤣No doubt!
Haha
How the hell does Canepa have less than 10k subscribers?!? That is a badass car right there. Iconic even.
This is the best video I've seen in a bit. Bravo Bruce 👏

Those gear shifts after 1m01s send shivers down my spine… Who cares about modern cars when you get to hear this?? Absolutely lovely. 😊
They remind me of gear shifts on an air cooled 911 - a throaty build up of revs, then a pause, then another build up of revs, followed by another pause.
I think I would shit my pants if I saw that in my rear view mirror
"WTF!!!?? Time-warped into 1960s Le Mans!!!!!????" Terrifying AND dream come true.
always loved the sound of the shifts; back hard on the throttle
Cops are gonna be like “Who do you think you are!! Bruce Canepa?!!”
Yeah ! What the noise !!!! Exceptional and driving this legendary car on the road without a helmet, a dream (but for your eardrums). Thank you so much for these first version of the phenomenal 917 !! Love it.
917 shake down...Bruce leaving us shook! 😯 Whoa!
Are the local cops on the payroll or are they just gearheads also?
I know a Former Scotts valley cop that works for him so the department treats him well
Bruce has a great relationship with the local cops. He’s a big supporter. $$$$
I am sooo sorry officer but I couldn’t read the speedo due to that vibration…

good thing it has turn signals!🤣🤣🤣
Lol

Instantly one of my favorite videos of all time. Sent chills down my spine
In my country, you'd go to jail for 5.000 years for driving this legendary piece of awesomeness on the road.
Yeah, I hear North Korea can be rough like that.
That was just awesome! like music to my ears! I would be thinking the whole time I'm going to jail, I am definitely going to jail .👍👍👍
I met Bruce at Monterey years ago. Hell of a nice guy. That dude has every cool car you can think of.

It looks better than what’s on the road today😎
That is the smallest windshield wiper I have ever seen 💀
That engine sound……. Orgasmic! Just pure music!
As the revs climb the engine really comes alive.
The fact that I knew folks in the 80's that would pay you to take one of these "Old broken cars" out of their garage to the scrapyard makes my heart cry.

Is there a 2 hour version of this clip somewhere?
A 917 on Hwy 17 is very gear head’s dream!
magic
the most beautiful set up
the original...
how it's done
Looks fantastic 😍
I'm building my dream V12 supercar with the OG zonda engine 😎
It's a shame, though, the camera doesn't seem to like or tolerate the engine revs! Crazy sounds.
No words to describe how good it is!
👏👏👏👍👍👍💪💪💪👊👊👊
Wow.
Simply wow!!
The exhaust note 🏎️🎶🎼🤤
very good, thank you
The Bruce , love ❤️ it
No misses.
got to be my favorite version of the 917
What’s with the windshield wiper?
So beautiful.
Não e problema com os guardas???😊

Fantastic 👍🏆
At night, in the rain, north of 200 mph... The guys that drove these incredible machines had to have their balls brought in on barges!
Santa Cruz Autobahn 🎉
A 917 on Hwy 17.....
the thing comes across the parking lot, it is so LOW, like a UFO. Great sound on 17.
I won't lie, I want one.

Isn’t the long and short tail just a conversion kit ?
It probably got changed later

It's chassis 005
What is the s/n of this fabulous 917 please?
Chassis 005
Thank you kindly!
Very cool!
Отличный звук!❤
1969 was a very good year.
Yes. Yes, I'd daily drive this thing, no matter how not practical, difficult and troublesome it might be. 👌🏻🗿
Is this a genuine 917 or a continuation? If real I guess it was converted back from a 917K?
It's chassis 005 (ex John Woolfe car, rebuilt by Willi Kauhsen using original spare parts from Porsche)
talk about a moment....
What a car.
Rolling art.
I can not confirm or deny; I may have just soiled myself!😳
Superbe ligne
How do you get away with driving a 917 on the street?🙀👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Sick …OMG
I can't imaging driving on a freeway and passed by a Porsche 917
The only race car sound that should ever be listened to. Like a tortured dinosaur.
Oh, hell yes!!!
love it
Is it a replica ?
La máquina.
Camera shake mate...🙄🤦♂️🤷♂️
One word: more!
Is it legal to make everyone drool with stage 5 jelly?
Not that I care, but this is CA...is this sort of thing even legal there?
My turn!
-Darling, I'm going out to buy some cigarettes and I'll be back soon... (maybe) 😁
Ditch the Mercedes. This is the perfect ride to commute to work in!!!

The faster car ever in le mans
Et vous voulez interdir ça ? 😅
Évidemment je ne parle pas du moteur
