Given tha it was the Jedi's dogma on personal attachments, that got them into this mess, it's little wonder that they didn't understand what Luke was about to do. They'd shunned personal attachments for so long that they completely under-estimated the power of love, it was beyond their sphere of experience.
After what Anakin had done in Revenge of the Sith, the Jedi had good reason to forbid personal attachments.
Luke lived a childhood and adolescence that Anakin was never allowed. He had too much rugged farmboy in him to ever be turned to the darkside.
I understand. Obi-Wan didn't want Luke to know the truth about Vader because he wasn't ready to know the truth when he was on Tatooine during A New Hope. I agree sometimes telling the truth can be dangerous to those who can't handle it and understand it. In life there's a time for everything.
Your Luke impression is pretty decent you have his tone and inflection right.

Everyone gave up on Anakin; Except Luke and Padme.

Maybe if Obi-wan didn't lie to Luke so much about Anakin being killed by Darth Vader, he wouldn't have to worry about Luke turning to the dark side. Obi-wan was lucky that Luke didn't give in even after Vader revealed himself as Luke's father because finding out that his mentors have been lying to him about his dad throughout his entire life would've caused Luke to follow in his father's footsteps instantly.
Compared to Anakin, Luke was no where close to the darkside. Luke didn't slaughter an entire group of tusken raiders in cold blood. Luke didn't kill a disarmed enemy. Luke wasn't seeking power endlessly, wanting to be in control, and wasn't half the egomaniac.

Is Luke stronger than Prime Anakin was do we think? I mean the look sidious gave whilst Luke was fighting was one of awe almost, he saw something super strong for sure, force wise anyway

They jedi order reminds of if the order of the Phoenix in harry potter they treated snape in a like manner yes both men made their choices but no one knew their inner turmoil and deep, deep hurting they wanting to belong and they fact that they did not want to be hated.
If one person believes the other to be evil than the latter must convince the former of the opposite.
Just as the light can be used for evil and the dark for good.
He's not like his father well maybe in some ways or more....
