Regarding Scott Adams, his racist and anti-worker takes were very shocking. I always saw Dilbert as a sort of pro-worker anti-Capitalist manifesto. I used to find my experiences as an office worker repeatedly reflected in these comics. The incompetence of the pointy-haired boss... the manifest evil of Catbert, the machivellian Human Resource Officer... Dogbert, the Anarcho-Capitalist dog whose get-rich-quick schemes rarely, if ever, worked out, etc... all these characters I could easily find in the office in which I worked. I quit twitter probably a year before Musk took over because the doomscrolling was having a huge impact on my mental health. This whole mess has reinforced my decision not to go back.
As you point out, stuff on twitter has had real world impacts, so I do wonder how leftists leaving the platform will affect things. But also as you point out, the platform at best doesn't make space for us and at worst is actively hostile. I don't think the little bit that can be done in that situation outweighs a person's mental health, and I've heard from plenty of other leftists who've left twitter for mental health reasons.
I know there are also some people who benefit from finding community on social media, and to some extent I feel that too (here I am, participating in your community, even though youtube really only allows for a rather disjointed one) and I hope we're able to carve out spaces for ourselves in places that are less hostile. Spreading the word is good, but I'm less and less convinced that trying to spread the word among the most polar opposite ideologies is worthwhile. I went from US libertarian to anarchist, but even though the things that drew me to libertarianism were anarchist ideals, I had to unlearn things that prevented me from identifying with anarchism, and that was a more gradual process that required me to leave those right wing extremist spaces first.

I already knew that Threads would go the same way as Twitter, so I didn't join it (also because I don't have IG nor want it). Misery loves company, so even if it had been started by someone good and had incredible success, there's NO way that the right-wingers would have just stayed on Twitter. They would bust their way onto any platform. Hell, I could start a platform as a safe space for black women, for example, just so we can talk about internal "community" issues and relax without racism or misogynoir, and if it got enough visibility, they would want to be in on it so they can tell us our feelings about our experiences are wrong, stir the pot by encouraging self-hate, colorism, and such, and more. I know this because I've seen it in black-women-focused groups and in the comment sections of channels strictly focused on black women's issues.
Point being, if everyone left-wing left Twitter to the right-wingers, they would follow the left-wingers. As they always do. They can't leave those they hate alone because hate is greedy. If they're not hating us, they have no identify and their life has not meaning. They can't stand themselves, so they can't be left to themselves. It's like how they'd bust into black neighborhoods during segregation. If they're not hurting us in some way, they're not satisfied.

You've just written a dystopian novel about a fictional future in which the internet ("you mean AOL?") has become integrated into everyone's day-to-day existence, but one site in particular - which limits users to 140 characters per message - is so massive and popular that it is single-handedly changing global politics on a tight time scale. People would say it was too fantastical, too overblown. And yet here we are.
Twitter needs to die. Actually, social media in general needs to die. I can think of few technologies that seem on the surface to have such potential for positive change that have instead wrecked everything. The experiment failed; we can't hack it as a species.

It's like Musk is boosting all of that because he is. Despite (or perhaps because of) being one of the richest people alive, Elon appears to have a short-to-nonexistent list of people that can stand him IRL (notably a list that does not include his ex and, by all indications, several if not most of his children), and, consequently, a pathologically-strong need for validation. And fash and reactionaries are the ones who are consistently ready and willing to (metaphorically, for now. I hope.) tongue the guy's butthole in exchange for his attention. So he signal-boosts the people that make the voice in his head that tells him everyone hates him be quiet for a little bit, and in exchange fash get to make everyone else see their BS on what used to be a semi-functional social media site.

Before Musk Rat, the twitter report system seemed pretty responsive. They didn’t always timely delete the offending posts/accounts, but they got to it at some point which was sadly the most responsive most social media platforms got. Now I see my friends dropping like flies from it for standing up to bigots while accounts that openly post gore and hate speech are left completely alone no matter how many times you try to bring them to twitter’s attention. If they have a blue check, immunity is almost guaranteed.

Twitter was always a bit toxic; yet it was occasionally possible to have a civil interaction outside of one's own echo chamber, in which users across the political spectrum could respectfully agree to disagree on some topics while finding common ground on others. While few and far between, those interactions were often transformative when they did occur.
On Twitter 2.0, that kind of dialogue is no longer possible, now that the algorithm favors Musk's paying army of keyboard warriors and their dipstick crusade against "wokeism" (one of many meaningless propaganda buzzwords used to stereotype and vilify anyone who leans the slightest bit left or doesn't conform to the far-right's way of thinking).
While it may be "free speech", the constant fear & hate mongering that's now prevalent on Twitter 2.0 gets tiresome -- especially when the only way to counteract that one-sided hate & fear mongering is to pay Musk $8 to boost one's comments. And no amount of pressure or financial shaming will change the minds of those who've already decided against paying for Twitter, and who'll eventually leave the platform altogether. As Musk and his followers gloat & crow about "owning the libs", the libs will leave in search of less hateful, more tolerant and balanced environments.
Under Musk's ownership of Twitter, the inmates are now running the asylum.

Back when the internet was still a niche thing, you were always told “don’t feed the trolls” and most of the worst people have to make their own websites or forums just to say the vile garbage they want. But nowadays, everyone uses the internet and there’s little to no internet safety guides used anymore. 2) Those who feel the need to constantly explain themselves and their existence to the point where the feeling becomes an addiction. Don’t argue with people who are dead set on not seeing you as a person. Block them.
      3) Those who have no hobbies, friends, or are genuinely unsatisfied with themselves, but feel they should spread that misery around for fun.
      4) Those who have subscribed to the hierarchal status quo that secretly makes them miserable but they can’t find it in themselves to take it out on said system so they blame THE OTHER™️.
      5) Those who are scared and disconnected from reality that they’ll cling onto whatever & makes them feel like they’re on the winning team, even if it’s incoherent bogus trash.
      6) The sunk-cost-fallacy dorks. They (un)knowingly sided with one awful talking point, but because they have an ego that will simply not allow them to admit they’re wrong once confronted, they dig their heels in at every turn. Before long they’ve lost so much going deeper down that spiral but it’s too late. They’re too far in.
