One subscriber here and thanks for the video. I am planning on visiting San Jose next March for a week and I plan to stay around the Del Rey hotel area. Is it that a safe area? and are there nightlife activities around to check out? This is my first time visiting Costa Rica and a first timer I always like to stay in a good area and stick to it as this gives more peace of mind.
During the day and early evening, I'd say it's very safe. Lots of people walking around and shopping. I did have a quick walk around 10-11pm in that very area, and there was less shoppers and more unsavory type people. I can't speak to the night life around downtown, but I'd expect it to be a bit more seedy. You should also check out staying in Escazu. We stayed at the Hilton on the last trip, and there's lots of restaurants and shopping centers around there which are perceptively way safer.
