Hey Eli - great video and excellent harvest! I stumbled across your vids when looking for gardening in Scotland and I instantly subscribed.
I inherited a greenhouse when I moved into my house (also in Scotland!) back in March and have only just cleared it out, given it a clean, and popped some peppers, cherry tomatoes, and mini cucumbers (cheers Aldi!). They have been thriving and can't wait to do things from scratch next year.
As my fruit and veg are coming up to harvest, I would love to know how you do things such as drying seeds for use the following season; and how you store your produce if you are not using them immediately. I have been thinking of drying out chillies when they arrive so I can add some home made spice over the off-season!
ps... When you showed off how your basil is getting on my jaw dropped in envy... Is this something I could start doing now?

Hey Sophie, glad to have you join us :)
It's great to have some more folk from Scotland too.
Hmm ok, let's see if I can help with some of your questions. Collecting seeds is easy, there are actually a couple of videos that may help.
      Collecting feeds from flowers:
      th-cam.com/video/LpNTELJFQv8/w-d-xo.html
How to collect and dry seeds from tomatoes and peppers etc: th-cam.com/video/L0qVaIDBi7Q/w-d-xo.html
Basil.... yup absolutely you can :) Basil doesn't do well outside in Scotland so one for the greenhouse or window sill. Here are a couple of useful videos on that.
How to keep shop-bought herbs alive: th-cam.com/video/nf6Yc84ezkA/w-d-xo.html
How to use your basil so it gets bigger and bushier: th-cam.com/video/YBZLEuYasyY/w-d-xo.html
Now I don't have any videos on storing produce and to be honest, it's not really something I do these days because I grow just enough (it's taken many years to get there) and mainly harvest what I need as I need it, but I did dry my own chillies for a few years because I had so many (although you can freeze them as well) - blog post on drying chillies: www.eliapplebydonald.co.uk/blog/drying-your-own-chillies/
I also learned to make pickle to deal with a huge harvest of beetroot, radishes, tomatoes etc:
      Tomato relish: www.eliapplebydonald.co.uk/blog/garden-gluts-this-time-its-tomatoes/
      Radish pickle: www.eliapplebydonald.co.uk/blog/radish-pickle/
      Pickled gherkins: www.eliapplebydonald.co.uk/blog/growing-and-pickling-your-own-gherkins/
There are a whole heap of other recipes over on our blog to help deal with gluts from the garden, including things like passata :) : www.eliapplebydonald.co.uk/blog/
      Hope that's helpful :)

      Thank you Ron
Yes hot some massive beetroots, but thankfully most are a better size (tastier)
So chuffed with straight carrots lol

The big ones also make good zoodles in place of pasta noodles. You can use pesto or Alfredo sauce if you still are watching tomatoes.

Confession…. I can’t remember what was in this video… if the big ones were courgettes then yup… we do that 😂😂😂😂

Thank you for this lovely video. I really enjoyed hearing you share how much your garden means to you and it's wonderful that you were married in this very special space. I've just started watching your videos recently and am really learning a lot and enjoying them so much!

Awwwww glad you are enjoying them Susan… wow if you haven’t watched this week’s video it might be interesting for you to compare to this one and see how the garden has changed over the years 😀

Another fantastic video Eli. Those beetroot are the size of my head!! Hate to admit that your carrots are a lot better than mine. Love the foodie focus today, lots of good ideas for using up all that veg.
I was talking to a fellow plot holder the other day who said that courgettes in the UK are subject to a virus which is what causes the mildew and that it is completely harmless.
Laughing so much at your tomato enjoyment, I understand now!!! What variety are the long peppers that you're growing?
The ending was so beautiful :')

Haha -just realised my post said ‘your posts give me instances’......🤣 What I meant was ‘inspiration’ and yes, they make me smile too. If these are instances, then they give me that, too. Have a great day.

Great video. Still catching up with the back catalogue but I'm determined to get them all watched. Top tip when trying to remember where the links appears is chunk it with something your familiar with. In other words associate it with something like your watch and then just point with that hand. Guarantee you'll never forget. But, I would just do what your doing makes it fun hehe 😋

Lovely to hear/see the wedding details :)
In Australia we tend to call those "bell peppers" capsicums.... at least I'm pretty sure those are the same thing.

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Oh I’d forgotten about this video Christopher 😍 you gave me a little smile while I’m drinking my morning coffee
I’ve heard folk say capsicums but I wasn’t sure what they were referring to, I think in the US they call them sweet peppers
As long as you know what you’re talking about 😍

You picking red currants, it ju shows how much further behind being so far north you are compared to me in Bristol! I reckon you're a few wee different to me. Some of the carrots were amazing!

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I know and it's one of the reasons I started talking about this stuff. When you are a new gardener, it's easy to beat yourself up or get down because you think you should match up to other gardens. In reality, we're even seeing a week or two difference between us and a garden 5 streets away. Even small differences in position change things up and it's ok ☺️
I may get one more harvest of redcurrants I think :)

Hiya Eli! I’ve been so far behind with my TH-cam watching sessions 🙈 so having a binge today while it’s raining outside 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤣 looks like you’ve had quite a good year this year! 👌🏼 little tip for you when facing the camera just think to yourself “my top left is right” when it comes to referencing other videos! Not my top right is right 🤦🏻‍♀️ if that helps! 🤣👌🏼
