    Been a crazy couple of weeks weather wise. Does anyone else blame the weather presenter when it doesn't look like sunshine?

    Another lovely video Eli, such a pleasure walking around your garden with you. Completely agree about letting the herbs go to flower, they beautiful and great for pollinators too - and WOW you have a complete herb jungle, it looks amazing.

      Glad I have support on the herb front. Fighting not to cut back all that mint :)

    I am so excited! I thought I was getting a little cutting, but a fully grown little fella?! Morag, you will be very well loved. Thank you, Eli! From Georgie at Rhino x

      ha ha ha oh that isn't fully grown - I hope you have space :)
      She was one of the cuttings from my main plant last year. The mother plant was more than 4 ft high at one point :)
      There is a little note in the box for you with details of her needs :). Enjoy!

      Awww thanks Niall. Unfortunately things will start to finish from here on so here at kitchen garden HQ we're having to think about how we keep the colour and love going over autumn and winter. Lots to think about....

      You can do it! So is the greenhouse thriving yet? Can you still get in or is it a jungle?

      @@eliandkate Because of COVID I didn't get it built until early August....so I am just getting it set-up and creating benches and getting my systems in place. I added a sink using water from the rain barrels. I'll try and see how I can post photos here...I am fairly new to TH-cam channels, so not sure if that is possible.

      I think that's the most exciting time, the getting set up bit :)
      Feel free to send pics etc to me on email (you have my email), as long as you're ok that I may not manage to respond - but I do read them. :). And I will get excited for you :)

    Bit of a shame about the Courgettes, but such is the way of the experiment! I saw someone on a fb group the other day who had cooked the stems and said they were very mild and tasty... Not sure about it myself but I might try at some point!

      I haven't tried that but I know someone who swears the leaves make amazing soup.

    If your supermarket carrots go soft, pop them in a bucket of cold water and they will soon harden up again.

    I'm trying my hand at basil after watching your videos. I've got 10 plants in individual pots at the moment that are starting to look a bit bushier. Can I ask how many plants you have in your pot in the greenhouse please?

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Lynsey,
      there are now 3 plants in the pot in the greenhouse, but I can do this because it isn’t just a pot. That is part of a self watering planter which means the plants aren’t competing for food and nutrition like they would in a standard pot. I did start off with 5 in there but I’ve thinned it out as the plants got bigger.
      If I was growing in a basic pot with soil that relied on me for water and food, I’d try to keep it to one or maybe two in a pot that size, just to make sure they both got everything they needed. However that planter allows me to make sure there is even watering and feeding for all the plants and as long as I make sure that it never empties, the plants should never be under stress :)

      @lynseyhope2800 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I see. Thanks for the reply. I've got 5 plants in individual pots just now so will see how things go. I'm local to you so it's nice to watch gardening videos that relate to the lovely climate here! 😂 If I hadn't found you my basil plant would have gone in the ground with all my other herbs so thank you!! 😊

      so glad you found us before you put your basil out :)
      The trick to bushy plants is all in the pruning.

    Hi when is the best time to grow tomatoes and chillies in Scotland and do you grow grapes in your beautiful garden.
    Shame on your, courgettes.

    • @eliandkate
      @eliandkate  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Sajad,
      tomatoes and chillies are a sow in spring grow through summer crop in Scotland. We're northern hemisphere. These are both temperature reliant so you have to make judgements on when to sow or plant based on your local conditions.
      I don't grow grapes no. I don't have the space in my greenhouse, it's pretty much full with the tomatoes and peppers. I've shown you guys everything I grow so you can pretty much be sure if it's not in a video then I don't grow it :)
