Ibn Fadlan had an account with vikings having tattoos from fingers to neck, but it's impossible to know if it was actual vikings he saw and also if he is telling the truth, just as with the burial he saw. 3. Slaves weren't allowed to have children, and we know this because we can see it in DNA that they didn't pass on their genes. 4. Just because one object is from arabic lands, doesn't mean they personally had contacts with them. They traded with other Europeans who might have gotten them from further down. 5. The "viking period" is just the end of the scandinavian boat culture. The classic viking boats with oars were mentioned already 80 CE by Tacitus when he mentions the Swedes, who had "Big fleets, lots of arms, men and horses" 6. Viking is synonymous with Scandinavian culture today. That's what many confuse. Viking in itself wasn't a word our scandinavian ancestors used about themselves except as something you do "go over seas". But today it's synonymous with everything that has to do with scandinavian culture. I dislike when people try to confuse this word and say it had nothing to do with scandinavians or such. Interesting talk, teached me nothing new. But maybe some who aren't well read on the subject.
