Kawagoe is an easy day trip from Tokyo where you can travel back to traditional Japan. In this former castle town, there's plenty of Edo-era architecture, temples, shrines and Buddha statues.

I like the historical architecture in the district. It’s a good place for a short day trip from my town, too!

Went to Kawagoe during Sakura season this year. It was advertised more as a getaway from the tourist traps, but felt more like one than other areas. That said, we still loved it. It was extremely hot that day, but sweet potato ice cream and broiled eels made the heat bearable :)

Look out for Kawagoe festival. I went thinking it was just a regular matsuri but it ended up being my best experience

Turns out the final weekend of my upcoming trip coincides with the Kawagoe Matsuri. Really psyched about it, I wasn't expecting to be able to see a festival while visiting.
