I often like to think as Falin and Loais are autism portrayed in two different ways, we get to see what it's like to be a autistic woman and an autistic man through these two characters
I also get the vibe that Falin also has ADHD while Laios doesn't (having read the manga, she's a lot more scattered and disorganized that Laios is). Which is delightful considering how common AuDHD is.
I’d really like to add one more thing about Falin that gets overlooked even by closest to her, as they still see her as this very gentle girl. Remember how did Falin act when Laios got attacked by a ghost? She literally hit him on his head. Falin can fight, she can be very brave and serious when situation calls. That’s the same side of Falin that made her jump in the jaws of the dragon to saved loved ones. She may seem like a sweet innocent girl who wouldn’t hurt a fly, but in her heart Falin is a fighter who can take a weapon and face danger head on protecting those she loves
Yeah! She's gentle with those she cares about, but she's still fully capable of kicking ass when she needs to! Her and Laios didn't make it this far with out her being a strong adventurer herself. I think that may be over looked because all the characters are good at handling themselves in the dungeon, for the most part.
what i love about the writing of falin that most "characters whose absence haunt the narrative" don't get, is that you see she IS a person, she IS an individual. she IS multifaceted, she IS someone's friend, she IS someone's sister. not an idealized memory!
I adore falin so incredibly much. I choose her for my first ever cosplay because I can just relate and love her through so little we got to know her this far. She's cute and kind and lovely and strong and I can not stop rotating her.
Shes very ride or die for the people she cares about, remember how she was charging a mofo with a morningstar for getting at her brother? Falin's the 🐐.
Love your analysis of such a beloved character. The introduction of Falins Character was also done naturally. We see her being eaten by the dragon, but beyond that, for some episodes, nothing more is presented about her. And when she does come up again, we have gotten to know the rest of the characters and are invested in the story. We get glimpses of who she is in a way that flows naturally with the progression of the story, and while it isn't dramatised, we get to genuinely empathise with each character who is close to her and misses her and their strong drive to have her back.
I kinda love characters like Falin, Himmel, etc. just because of how creative the authors get with implementing them into the story. Not only that, but the characterization of these characters are so filling even with such a miniscule amount of screentime
thanks for this video it's amazing how kui managed to make falin so memorable just with a couple key memories from her friends. like you see them and you can really tell how she shaped marcille's and laios worldview and how she's still with them in a way even if she's gone. also i love that you recorded this in the woods for maximum falinism lmao
i've been on the hunt for more dungeon meshi analyses and this video popped up on my fyp at the perfect time! i'm only a couple minutes in right now and forgive me if this sounds odd but you really look like falin and marcille's lovechild and i mean that in the best way possible.
Lol I found you through a durge video. Now here I am finding you through a dungeon meshi video. Great interests lmao. Ryoko Kui is actually a fan of baldurs gate too, which I thought was cool lol.
1:15 Another good example is Julia from 'Cowboy Bebop' she is a terribly written character and the worst part of the show 6:56 I must be the only one that enjoys the fact that Marcille loves Falin and Chilchuck like they're her children and they find it frustrating 8:00 Oh yeah their goals are very different ha ha ha! As someone who has read this series in its entirety, I can't wait for people's reaction, maybe you Null and whoever else could do an episode-by-episode review/analysis just an idea, could bring your channel more traffic, like your Baldur's Gate vids 10:03 I can't remember which part but in the books Laois says his favorite monster type is dragons and Falin's is spirits (such as ghosts) they are both monster freaks 11:34 This might be considered a spoiler, though its more DinD spin-off material but Laois' hatred of his father is actually due to the fact that the two are so autistic (and I do consider that canon) they misread each other all the time, I don't even think Laois' father knows he is hated by his son 11:57 I just recently found out someone I thought I got along with, actually had a very low opinion of me and I gave her my money after her ex-boyfriend refused to give back the money she lent to him (she was freaking out because she didn't want her fiancé to find out) so Laois connects with me on a deep level 15:10 And when she hugs/exorcises the zombie 17:15 Your right she is amazing! I really like the idea of DinD getting a deep dive, your deep dives are the best.
I don't really see Marcille infantilizing Falin like she does Chilchuck, but I do think it's really funny how her dynamic is with Chilchuck! I'm sorry to hear that about your friend though, it's always hard to have things like that come to light, especially after you've put so much care and effort into the friendship. I hadn't seen that about his father! But that does make a lot of sense, because I know Falin wants Laios and their parents to come to an understanding and get along again! So it did always seem to me that the reason Laios didn't get along with his parents was something like a misunderstanding, and not actual mistreatment.
As a person who's been obsessed with the manga since it first started getting English translations, I'd say you kind of HAVE to mention the potential of Marcille x Falin romance when talking about the characters. From my perspective, I think it's undeniable that Falin has a crush on Marcille. Marcille may or may not reciprocate in the same way, but regardless of whether someone thinks they're romantic or not, they absolutely love eachother. Falin is absolutely my favorite character to make little theories about. We get so little info directly from her! It's all about trying to understand the characters who we learn about Falin through. Toshiro's perspective made a lot more sense when I went to Japan. Have you read the whole manga?
I have not read the whole manga yet! I really want to though! I really love what I've seen/read so far! I was mostly trying to cover my bases of people coming in and discrediting anything I said since Falin and Marcille aren't canonically dating. I do agree it's very clear they deeply care for and love one another though!
It probably depends on whether kui is herself bi or lesbian, which I suspect isn't the case. When there's no clear-cut fact, we tend to project our experience on others. So, from an aromatic asexual perspective. That is how i would write two girls who love each other deeply but not in a asexual or romantic nature. Considering that I do spot it early on when the characters actually turn out gay, I really don't think that she intended for the relationship to be romantic or sexual. But as she herself says, the readers can have fun with their interpretations. For me, there's value for them to be friends. Otherwise, it means that friendships can't be this deep without it being labelled as something else that's deemed to be more meaningful. It kind of limits what friends could be, which makes me sad.

Falin is a messy lil weirdo and I'll die for her

I hope you have fun cosplaying her!
You could even say we are... Falin in Love? with her...?

@@PocketLeaves Thank you, I appreciate it, here's hoping the DinD spin-offs get animated.

@PocketLeaves oooo dang I want to talk about Falin but you've gotta get to the end before I can rant lol. I don't want to spoil anything!
