Trigger is also my favorite studio an they did NOT disappoint. I adore everything about this adaptation, and the weekly schedule made me realize how much I prefer that format. It just feels right, like good old days. Also, Yoshinari making a whole dragon animation secuence without even blinking? Hilarious. What a legend
The weekly schedule is my preferable way to watch anime, despite how much Netflix sometimes tries to push the binge option on us. And Yoshinari..... The man, the legend. I really want to know what clip it was that he *wanted* to work on, rather than the dragon sequence.
Yay Dungeon Meshi! Edit: I want to say every video I am blown away by the way you craft them. Your editing is always on point and always leave me impress
makes me so happy to know that dungeon rabbits is also one of your favorite chapters, without going into spoilers i think it perfectly condenses all the best parts of dungeon meshi in a single arc
WAKE UP GANG NEW LINES IN MOTION JUST DROPPED Have only read the manga but this video is the biggest case for me to check out the anime. Great work as usual!
WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT!!!!!! I knew nothing about it and finally got around to watching it coincidentally when it ended AND I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!!! it made me incredulous that I'd waited so long!!!!
As always, the quality of your videos is outstanding! This channel is one of the very few that I actually follow. (Also, as a French fan, I can assure everyone here in the comments section that the French dub is incredibly well done)
It used to be so hard to come across any dungeon meshi fanart, and after the anime dropped we're just spoiled for choice! It's such a joy to see so many people enjoying a manga that's been a long time favorite personally (it also made physical copies of the manga be more available in my region, as it used to be so so rare to find)
Woo! A new Dani video! And on Dungeon Meshi! As always, I’m blown away by how well you can make manga panels stand out - even panels that aren’t themselves that flashy like at 5:12. I’ve been really excited to see your take on the DM adaptation because I decided to watch it initially because of your past praise of the series. It’s great, this video is great, and now I want to read ahead even more.
Ah, thank you 😭😭 But I'm glad to hear you like the anime! And are you anime-only? I don't think the wait for season 2 is actually going to be too long (they've already got visuals set for upcoming arc already done, so I reckon next year, maaayybbbe early 2026 if you can hold out.) But the manga is so fantastic that I'd recommend it anyways 😂
I am so beyond pleased with how this good adaptation is. This might be the best anime I've ever seen... next to Frieren. And the animation is TOP NOTCH. I cannot believe the level of care and detail some of theae scenes have recieved. It's clear that Trigger cares about quality. I just hope it cares about its artists, too.
I only have you to thank for recommending me the Delicious in Dungeon comic and I totally love the animated adaptation. It is amazing and so faithful to the source material.
I'm so happy that Trigger got to make this anime, it's one of my all time favorite series and the adaptation was so, SO lovely. It got a bunch of my friends interested in Delicious in Dungeon, which is on its own a net win for me. Thank you for this insightful dissection on how the anime really works for this show in particular!
Comment before I watch this later! Edit: Watched it! Loved the analysis and the editing, its definitely clear how much you love Dungeon Meshi and Trigger! Great stuff
I managed to get a friend into dungeon meshi after she had disliked every other anime I showed her! Truly this show has something for everyone, she’s even gotten into this manga and was open to trying witch hat atelier!! Edit: I was making dinner while watching this, the chicken came out perfect, the veggies tho? Burnt. To a crisp.
I've always said Delicious in Dungeon is a great first anime (or one to get ""normies"" into) just like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! It's pretty well balanced in that regard. And wooo!! I hope they try WHA, too! I feel like both fandoms fall within another a lot. Also R.I.P to the veggies 😢
PS: it's only thanks to you that I even learned of Dungeon Meshi's existence. Genuinely, thank you so much. Your channel is a bastion of quality nerd content, editing, and education.
LMAO, I planted the seed and saw it become a beautiful flower. Nah, but it was incredibly luck! I never genuinely thought it would happen till the commercial came about!
I need to just start going through your videos and writing down a lot of the manga/anime that come up as examples, cuz some of this stuff looks so to my taste
haha, I do throw around a lot of examples tbh. All of them should be titled in the video, but I guess I could always throw them in the description box to make it even easier for folks like yourself!
Preach honey! Btw If anyone wants an episode by episode manga comparison of DM i recommend Swamp Jawn's series. Really made me appreciate the details of the animation.
This is awesome!!!!!! Wow, your videos are so good!!!!! I was considering rewatching an episode or two, but this makes me want to rewatch the entire series because it is so phenomenal!!!! .I really wish I had someone to share it with!!!
I've rewatched it like 3 times now (which, for me, is a lot in this timeframe haha)! And same, I have no-one irl to talk about the series, but luckily the fandom is massive on twitter!
I feel like that occasionally, can't lie - or I'll put off watching it weekly and binge it at the end, as I already know what happens. But sometimes.... Sometimes you get charms like this show!
@linesinmotion I agree. Sometimes I feel like even though I didn't watch Chainsaw man, I'd love to buy the Blu-ray to support the series because I know season 2 is going to be devastatingly good (but I might be 33 by then 😅)
The second OP of the season makes my brain melt with all the thought put into it. Reminds me a lot of mob psycho 100’s OP which became more amazing the more you experienced the series. The people behind this anime is just as brain rotted about it as the rest of us.
Thanks for another great Dunmeshi video and the spot on analysis! On this subject, my personal favorite is Bocchi the Rock! for also checking all those boxes. It's an amazing adaptation where a seemingly simple yonkoma manga has been elevated greatly and creatively by the anime medium.
"they ate, they served, they cooked" i'm in tears this was so funny and real and you said everything i've been thinking for the last few months. i'm a HUGE fan of this manga, and i just cannot believe it is being adapted so well.
I watched Little Witch Academia like three millennia and had no idea that Trigger produced both it and my current favorite group of idiots in a dungeon
This anime was so fun to watch the first time i watched i think i binged 8-9 episodes🤯 i am so happy to get daydream hour its so beautiful to look through!! Also i find it poetically ironic thay Ryoko Kui is a picky eater and wouldnt pick a monster meal honestly real
It was a great adaptation, even if I always hope for less stills. And some of the impact of episode 23 and Senshi's reveal was lost in the music and more focus on humor than what I felt appropriate for the situation but eh, all in all it was amazing. BUT the small details in animation in those small character moments was my favorite in the whole show. Just small things that really helped build atmosphere and characters done in the background. And that voice acting was golden, I might even say I preferred the English dub! I'm excited for season 2, and really intrigued to see how crazy stuff will be in the action scenes coming up.
Great video, as always. Makes me want to go back and reread the manga. And when the anime is finished, I'll definitely rewatch it in English. Likewise for Frieren. Between these two series, I feel like anime has finally broken out of accursed isekai jail. Looking forward to Witch Hat Atelier too, since your last vid put it on my radar.
Yeah this last year alone has been great for fantasy - and next year we have Witch Hat, too!! Hopefully Magus of the Library gets more love aswell, there's some great stories out there.
The video was very interesting. I haven't read the manga, but the anime has been one of the most entertaining studio trigger shows. When you were talking about the studio's productions you didn't mention Cyberpunk edgerunner because of the setting?
Consistency isn’t the only important factor in animation. And animation isn’t the only important factor to consider when making a show. So what if the characters are occasionally off-model on purpose? The expressive elasticity suit the scenes it’s used for perfectly. It’s great to see a Japanese studio embrace and experiment with a myriad of styles.
@@bleh329 "what if the characters are occasionally off-model on purpose?" then YOU people are wrapping the word "perfectly" , simple. The manga can do expressive and consistency both , Trigger fail. But atleast Trigger didnt self claim prefect...........
That God awful show about gem people sucked. Steven universe and Land of the illustrious. Neither offer anything but Mary Sue protagonists that do nothing in a mildly interesting world. Lesbian gem people was not an interesting story

The ignorant should learn to speak less 😂 Gay Space Rocks was absolutely interesting. To many people, in fact. Whether or not you, singular thing, liked it matters little.
i really like the manga dungeon meshi but the anime cannot deliver the comedy i imagine... is it because of high expectations? i think the best anime manga adaption that can deliver the good comedy is Kaguya-sama: Love Is War...
It's funny you say this, because I don't like the comedy in Kaguya at all 😂😂 Just goes to show how comedy is one of those reaches people so differently! But I feel like this would be my opinion if say Yotsuba got an anime, the manga is *so* funny that I think it'd be hard to replicate it in animation
