I am a lutherie fan from an underdeveloped and very poor country in South America, called Argentina, in the stores there are no strings, frets, good quality pickups, your videos are my inspiration. I don't know if one day I will meet you in person. I just want you to know that with your videos you make my life a little happier. thanks friend (I already consider you like that)

Argentina is still the home of Astor Piazzlo and has a ridiculously rich musical history despite being made poor by Jorge Rafael Videla

Really awesome stuff Tim! This is probably my favorite guitar that I’ve seen you build. Love the steinberger tuner hack to make it a 12 string. That’s the exact inspiration I needed to convert a 335 style guitar I have to add doubled g and b strings. Very cool stuff, I’ll be buying a raffle ticket for this one 🤘

Oh and using a cnc doesn’t make you any less of a craftsman. It’s just a different kind of craftsmanship! A whole new level of design and creativity. I’m starting to dabble in cnc as well and it’s not for the faint of heart!

    • @timsway

Indeed! People who thing CNC isn't "real woodworking" are people who never tried to use a CNC :-p

    turned out really nice!
here is a trick i learned when it comes to painting 2 different colors like you did there: first off, no need to tape of the parts that will end up darker. second, after taping off the parts that should not get the 2nd color, touch the edges of the paint with the 1st color, to seal the tape edges, so the 2nd color can't soak through like it did here.

Looks really neat, cool concept. You really have the artist mindset with this stuff.
You should do a 12 string Baritone next tho, now that you have the 12 string bug.

My electric XII is tuned to B even it's shortscale (Italia Rimini). I couldn't find any electric 12 string set at the store (before I knew I could borrow online), so I tried with acoustic strings. Tension is good, sounds great (telecaster bridge pickup).

hi, I would like to share a painting tip from Jimmy DiResta I saw a while back: when painting 2 different colours, seal the tape with the first colour before you put on the second one. in your case, use white just along the tape, let it dry a bit, then paint it black. this will 100% prevent any bleed through even if your tape doesn't seal perfectly
I think the video was called Masking tape tips and tricks, or something like that

Some cool ideas in this video. I like how you are willing to experiment and try all sorts of stuff.the guitar is very interesting. I also had problem with painting my ggbo guitar this year. I used black stain for some parts and left other natural. The same thing happened, stain was just leaking under the masking tape. And had a hard time scraping it off as it soaked quite deep into the wood.
And I'm also slowly becoming a Not a real wodworker😄 We should make a club.
    Good job man!

  • @jskz11
    @jskz11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I still use rattle can for color after 30 years. My clear is from an HVLP setup...If you get a proper pin striping tape, go over the clean edge with a spoon, bowl side down in a circular motion, use a flat edge to do it where a spoon doesn't fit, you'll have a clean paint edge without bleed through. you can use the blue stuff from the vinyl (pinstriping) tape out if you need more protection.

Yeah I think a better way to go on the finish would have been to use stain but Trying to get the 2 different colors for the front and the back would have been just as difficult I think. Over all I think the guitar came out very well. Well done.

👍🏻 Great stuff! Love your work and the GGBO, and Crimson.
About your paint line edge issue, I think I saw someone solve this. If I remember, after masking off the line of demarcation they lightly painted the color being masked off onto the masking tape at and over the border line with the next color to be applied. They then let this dry thusly sealing the tape's edge from any bleed-thru from the subsequent contrast color application. After they painted on the contrasting color the tape was removed before it fully dried and the edge is laser straight and totally clean...
    Maybe this is your solution?
