This river seems to be the home of many giant trout! Fishing in the dark was something my Dad did. After sunset he parked his greyling equipent and fished with the dry fly. Sometimes he caught fish after fish but most of the time that fish run was quite short. Those fish have amazing eyesight. We caught greylings and trout when we could not even see our hands in front of the nose. We often did not bring a lamp and we had to touch the fish to see if we caught a trout or a greyling.
I did it a few times. I loved it when there was just a little moonlight. There is an extreme quietness and magic and the only thing you hear is the water moving. But it can get spooky. I remember when I was fishing a spot where I knew a big brown trout was sitting beside a rock. Suddely the beast jumped after an insect and bumped hard against my boot! I do not know if the fish or me got more spooked. I think nobody ever caught this trout. I think many huge and experienced trouts leave the place where they hide during the day and hunt at night.
William that was indeed the night of nights. I remember fondly, fishing the Ballinderry and Six Mile water, my Father and two brothers were members of both over 30 years ago. this brings back awesome memories. We never did catch a Ferox though, everything thing else though. Keep these great videos going.
