    Forgot to mention in my earlier comment that I enjoyed the video. I have not worked on the internals of a starter, so this was interesting and I learned a lot.

    Good afternoon. Thanks for showing this in a very clear and simplistic way. Appreciate it.

    Thanks for another video - always wondered what it's like to rebuild a solenoid starter but I've never had to do it myself so far. Great work as always, Ethan.

    In the recent video on my channel where I'm helping my friend haul manure, that morning I couldn't get my starter to work on my White 2-110. I realized the problem was with the solenoid, which looks similar to what you were working on. I had an easier time getting the solenoid back in because the starter was still mounted to the tractor, which obviously held it in place.

    Nice job dude. I was always confused with that starter and trying to get the throw dimension set correctly myself. I'm glad to see you get to that point and determine the same thing that I did. I guess that dimension doesn't matter on that starter. I had very strongly considered doing the gear reduction starter conversion that you see some guys do, but I don't know… I really like stuff to be original.

      If everything on the engine is in good shape there is no reason for a gear reduction starter.

    Hope y'all had a good Christmas, we had our first white Christmas in no telling how many years. And ironically my 175 Massey has the same style of starter with the throwout fork.

      Most diesels built after 1960 used that style of starter.

    I have had great luck with the high speed geared starter I got for my 1650.
    Got it from Maple Springs farm in WI

    That cold start makes me a little jealous. Our stock 4020 won’t start like that at 20° without ether. The M&W turbo one will though. My dad says the pump is timed a little more ahead for the turbo and that’s why it starts so good. If only Deere would’ve figured that out for the 4320.

    • @Oliver66FarmBoy
      @Oliver66FarmBoy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deere had the 404 cranking to slow to be a good cold weather starter.

    Ethan, changing subject for a minute. There used to be an elderly fella that I knew that was big into collecting Oliver and would go to thresherman shows. I believe he lived in Gibson City Illinois and may even have passed on by now. But I was wondering if you knew about him. I would have to ask my neighbor his name

    When you were trying to install the solenoid would it have helped to energize it. Idk if it would have worked or caused any problems. Just more of a question. Thanks for sharing.

    Excellent repair job. I know there must be a reason but what is the reason for the 2 different size duals on the 1950-T ? Also, I would love to see the cab of the White 4wd repainted. The Olivers look so good with their original green paint. I am guessing it is a matter of time and cost.

    • @Oliver66FarmBoy

      @@Oliver66FarmBoy At approximately 49:47 the outside dual looks taller than the inside dual. May be just simple tread wear or may be my 70-year-old eyes. LOL

    I’ve broken three nose cones on three different starters in the last twenty years on my ‘64 1600 diesel and haven’t been able to figure out why this keeps happening.

  • @chrisduggins3435
    @chrisduggins3435 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can often tell if the starter bendix is going bad by rocking the pinion gear in short forward and reverse rotations, if it slips like you had happen it’s bad, and the center bushing often wears more than the outer bushings, in my experience

    • @chrisduggins3435

      There is a special puller tool that removes the retaining ring and the wire ring that was made by KD, it makes the job of removing them much easier
