My two sons are huge Star Wars fans, so I wanted to make them something they could keep and play with. It was my first time using a CNC to create a graphite mould, and I learned a lot about machining as well as how the metal will flow in the mould.

How To Make A Coin Mold | CNC Graphite Carving
Using my CNC, I created my own Maker coin and Imperial Credit.
I am a total newbie when it comes to melting metal from a home foundry, so please do not take this video as a "how to". There are much more knowledgeable people on TH-cam who can aid you should you need any advice on starting up.
My sons both love Star Wars, so I wanted to make them something that they can keep and play with. It was my first time using a CNC to make a graphite mold and I have learned a lot, both in terms of machining and also how the metal will flow in the mold.
If you are interested in having a graphite mold made, please do get in touch via email.

Will do! Thanks!❤
Oh,.. NOW I know you can do CNC on graphite to make molds.. THANKS!!!!!👍💓
Mate this great good to see you back won’t be too long before you’re a forging expert 👍🏻
Thanks mate. You never know, in about 20years, I may be able to tell some whippersnapper how things should be done haha
WH Creations but in 20 years you’ll be almost 90 won’t you lol
Good to see you posting again👍
Thanks bud!
great music!
I built a forge maybe 5 years ago...before I made a video of every backyard project. I don't recall my crucible ever glowing red. That Devil Forge seems to get way hotter. Were you able to figure out how to get a good result?
Hey chad, how you doing buddy. I'm a member of a casting group and put it to the oracles of the group. Turns out brass isnt that good for casting into coins etc. They have suggested copper or tin. I have copper, but feel my molds are that good enough so I will be redoing them. I've been spending some time casting aluminium cans for an upcoming project. The devil forge is incredible. Obviously I have nothing to reference off, but it heats up in minutes and retains heat after it's been turned off for a number of hours.
As I've said in previous videos, I love learning new stuff and will draw upon every resource I can find to get as much knowledge as possible. It was a good first effort I thought atleast, and the kids are loving their coins, but I would love to do some sand casting too, so many new videos to come.
Nice work
Watching with interest Mate 👍
Ah thank you, appreciate it.
im going to try this as well. is the graphite hard? i see your feed rate was 300mm/min?
Quite soft actually. Right tools for the job help massively.
@@WHCreations cool! thanks for the reply. just found your channel. i subbed.
Can you make a coin mold for someone else?
Sure, feel free to email me
Do you sell custom moldings
I do yes. Email me on sales@whcreations.co.uk
Are graphite molds permanent?
As in, can you continue to keep using them? They won't last forever, but should last a fair while.
Bet the wife was furious when she went to make the yorkshire puddings...
Haha
Do you take custom orders for molds?
Yes, feel free to email me at sales@whcreations.co.uk
Can you make a Mold for me if I give you the coin?
Sure, email me sales@whcreations.co.uk
How long ago did you learn to use a CNC? Self taught?
So I only got the cnc around 4months ago. I was totally clueless as to how it worked. Lots of reading up and asking for help and now I would feel happy building my own one. The software once you get your head around it and how the cutters work in your machine are relatively easy. I started using easel when I first started. It's a free online platform made by inventables. I have since moved over to another software which I find much more user friendly. There are always loads of really useful tutorials on youtube to help you, but I find some to be rather laborious, so once you find someone you like stick with them. I did worry, just like any other big purchase that I wouldnt get the use from it. I have since thought about up scaling but due to the constructions of my workshop that would be difficult to do. I tend to design things that I think how can I utilise the cnc to make this better. Some will say that it is cheating but for me I get as much joy out of the whole designing stage as I do the manufacturing part. If I had a bigger machine I would design bigger items that would use it. I definitely believe that a cnc will be in every workshop in under 10 years, be it a small chinese one to a big 8x6 beast.
Can you make me some molds serious inquiry
