The ethanol train originated west of Chicago, and the power was run through. A strong thunderstorm apparently shorted out the track circuits. The dispatcher had to grant the trains permission to pass the stop signal at Doubs. A track inspector was sent ahead of the trains to look for washouts.
I seen track inspector vehicle behind train as it approached Bartholows rd, but did not stay to see if it got off there, but was not following it at Mt Airy junction
