I hang my foot pedal on the side of my right leg of the table. A lot less stress on my ankle. I learned this working in a custom drapery shop. We would sew not just drapery but quilts and pillows. I had a blast doing it.

That is a huge table. I'd go for something 20 wide by 8ft long (not sure that in inches off the top of my head)
