My parents and sisters were born in Scotland...Last year I went with my mother to spread my father's ashes in Aberdeen. Many of my family still live there. My cousin Graham took me to the Highlands....and there is not a place on earth more beautiful, or spiritual. Even though I wasn't born in Scotland, there I felt my heritage and who I was and where I came from. I can't even begin to explain. But it is sheer beauty.

Fingal's Cave is basically the Scottish version of Northern Ireland's Giant's Causeway. The legend says that they were once connected by a natural land bridge which was destroyed by one of the two giants involved: Fingal from Scotland, and Finn McCool from NI. I don't know the specifics (despite being from NI, and having visited the Causeway multiple times), but it's a pretty fun story to look up. The Hogwarts Express isn't the place. It's the train. The bridge is called the Glenfinnan Viaduct.

But, other than that, you're right. They built this bridge to duke it out with one another, and then, after Finn McCool's trick worked, one of them destroys the bridge to prevent the other from crossing again. Just can't quite remember which giant that was.
