The Ravens should've keep Pateick Queen. They kept the wrong Linebacker...So when he had All Pro Pat Queen then Roquon was great. Now since he doesn't have Pat Queen its somebody else's fault. No Roquan has been TERRIBLE. Let's be real. He is a Liability in the pass game and in the Eagles game he was a liability in the run game. If Roquan is the best Linebacker in the NFL he should play like it.
Let me start by saying, I'm not ready to throw away Roquan yet. HOWEVER there has definitely been a noticeable drop in his play. He has become a liability in pass coverage. He has been missing tackles and he's slower than he was last year. I hope that in the offseason, that he notices that he needs to get back to how he was last season. Losing Queen wasn't that big of a loss in my opinion. Simpson is going to be great. Yes some of this is on coaching but some of it is on Roquan too. Geno Stone wasn't a playmaker. The balls that he picked off were being thrown right to him. You see he's stinking it up in Cincy.
Lol this has nothing to do with the players we lost. This is all about the stubborn old school mentality of Harbaugh and his refusal to evolve. Our defense/team has the problems it has because of our consistent slow development of players because of Harbaughs refusal to play our younger drafted more talented players over the "experienced" submissive vets that Harbaugh favors. The amount of production the ravens gets out of cheaper rookie contract players remains at an all-time low compared to other teams. And the same pattern of players only having breakout years on the last year of rookie contracts before we have to make the decision to resign them or not. He basically has to be forced into playing talented younger players over vets because of injuries or roster construction. And this can happen to anyone at any position and we even saw it with Lamar of all people. When Harbs job was on the line, he went with Flacco over LJ until his hand was forced due to Flacco getting injured even when we were headed towards another losing season it took an injury to force him making the change. This consistent behavior of his has led to a much slower development time for players in key positions when needed because the simply aren't getting the necessary reps they SHOULD be getting earlier on. One of the more recent examples of this is Madubuike. While yes he eventually developed into a high production player, it happened way later than it could have leading us to having to make the choice to resign him to a big contact after only 1 high production season. He was showing flashes of what he could be even as a rookie but was getting a much more limited snap. count because we were playing Calais over him. He only started getting a much higher snap count once Calais was gone and surprise surprise he had much better stats. This has shown up in one position the most and that is at Defensive Edge. We have a bunch of young talent who none of which has become a stable force yet because once again low snap counts due to vets playing over them. First it was guys like Justin Houston (30+ year old), Clowney and now Kyle Van Noy (33)...and while these players are good solid vets with expierience....starting them over younger draftees slows down the development of guys we NEED to hit on because once again...they simply aren't getting the reps. We have no clue if Ojabo will be a dependable player...and don't get me started on the fact that Adisa Issac has barely played or even suited up. We have the same thing happening in the DB room to a certain extent but it has definitely affected our LB room, especially on the inside. Trenton should have been getting A LOT more snaps/reps by this time of the season, but instead they were rotating him with Malik Harrison who we all know is just not athletic enough at the ILB position. The one thing we know is the ILB position has always been a struggle for rookie/young players because so much is involved IQ wise and the need to play at all 3 levels of the defense. Let you young guys struggle EARLY they can be ready when we need them the most....but instead we are here in December having conversations on who should fill in next to Ro. But it doesn't just stop there...we have this problem all over the roster. We draft a speedy lockdown CB in the first round and yet during the chief's game instead of having your 1 rounder out there defending KC's first rounder...we had Jaylen Armour Davis out there getting torched. And week after week we see Nate on the bench when he should be out there for EVERY defensive snap. So once again young talents having their development slowed down which is even more egregious when we have a massive issue at his specific position because of the bad play of B.Stephens. Does Harbaugh notice the problem and makes the adjustment? Nope...he just leaves Stephens out there on the outside only for us all to watch him get torched week after week on big plays no matter how "tight & sticky" his coverage was. And last but not least this even affects the offense. Harbaugh playing favorites and inserting his guys in even though EVERYONE knows there are better players on the bench. We drafted Rosengarten in the 2nd round to be the guy....yet Harbs went with his rotation obsession and was starting Mekari over him. We already knew what Mekari's ceiling is...and it isn't starting material at ANY positions...yet we had him taking valuable reps over the guy we are depending on to be the future at Right Tackle...and just like always this didn't change until his hand was forced due to injury. And no surprise...still has his struggles from time to time but he got better and better the more he played and is one of our best graded lineman. Unfortunately this spilled over into ANOTHER guy who we need to develop but is instead sitting on the bench while we watch the WORST graded lineman and MOST penalized lineman, Mekari start over Vorhees. And if you are hoping that the obvious adjustment gets made during the bye week after a game where Mekari got a PFF grade of 35 (which I didn't even know they gave grades that low), which a season high of 9 pressures...I wouldn't hold my breath because I can guarantee that old stubborn John 'I can never admit I'm wrong' Harbaugh will NOT change anything unless he is forced to with a Mekari injury. So we will continue to watch Lamar run for his life behind some of the worst Guard play in the league...all while knowing there are much better options on the bench. TL;DR - Harbaugh is still the same stubborn coach with an old school mentality which he chooses not to evolve even though the game he coaches has evolved and it is this stubbornness that is and will continue to bite us in the ass because rather than admit he was wrong on some of his off-season choices...he will ride it out and refuse to make the in-season/in-game adjustments at the detriment of this team.
