It's not really slowed down (at least not really noticeably) though it's the same tempo (or very similar, didn't exactly check/compare), just no drums and all the loud and banging guitars and so on, hence the calmer impression. It's about the way the sound is processed, the articulation when playing the instrument, mixing, etc.
