“I have a quest for you. You must wake up, collect a brush and apply a small amount of makeup. You must hide away the scars and fade away the shake up.”
Actually proof that some thought went into this rearrangement, more than usual. So many times you hear rearrangements do the exact same thing as the original just with different instruments rather than building something unique by taking advantage of the new instruments, which often creates a weird feeling of something lacking.
Not quite everyone. Hildegard von Blingin's renditions are far more than mere MIDIs. I especially recommend her exquisite take on Dolly Parton's classic, "Jolene" at th-cam.com/video/ugqQlB5fpuc/w-d-xo.html Lady Hildegard's vocals are true works of art.
i love this song the way you arrange it with these instruments really showcases how much soad's Armenian traditional folk roots actually came through in their nu metal. It's honestly gorgeous how it sounds in your version. It sounds very very old. You always know where to put a perfect trill/turn in the flute too :))
I always have to imagine how European medieval people like nobles would've reacted to your covers. Pretty sure SOAD would've been shocking to them even in this awesome version :D I'm especially amazed how well you managed to do the climax of the last chorus here :)!
It basically sounds like it could be Persian/Northeast Mediterranean/Caucasus music to me. It's got some of that Scythian horseman vibe in the drums and guitar, but the flute and harp speaks more of the Mesopotamians; look up the Hurrian Hymn No. 6 (Also known as the Hymn to Nikkal, dating to 1500 BCE or so, and the oldest known piece of recorded music) and you'll probably be surprised at how it feels like it could be something written today. Similarly, the oldest known complete tune, the seikilos epitaph song from Greece circa 100-200 BCE, sounds like it wouldn't be out of place in medieval courts, or beside either the Hymn or this reinterpretation of SOAD's Chop Suey. Additionally, I doubt we could codify "European nobles" into a single group or even two truly diametrically opposed groups because there's simply so much variety. For example, Hungary's people today in a fair part now descend from their ancient Onogur Bulgarian conquerors, who ranged all across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, which also includes the area where the Scythians lived a millenia before they as a people were defined; while small in number (given how little of their asian genetics remain compared to the eastern-european base) it's quite possible that the nomadic horsemen of Scythia are in large part the ancestors of the Onogur Bulgarians themselves, too, though that's just conjecture on my part; we do know that they had ~40% Asian DNA similar to that of the Mongols and Khazars, via archeological genetics, at least.
2:42 - it really shines from this moment. It's like a true medieval ballad, as far as I can imagine. I would love to hear a full song based on this fragment solely. Great interpretation!
The original song is in fact very melodic. So if you take the disruptive parts off, the ones with crazy rhythm you get the perfect modern or medieval ballad 👌
So many details in this one. The fast-picked bouzouki in the intro giving that distinct balkan feel, an Armenian instrument in the duduk, the addition of the zitherette... Excellent stuff.
This is absolutely amazing! Especially the flute parts, the way you add more of a tune to the vocals and do the harmonization is truly haunting in a good way. I honestly do wonder what medieval people would think of this haha.
Algal to the King, as he's being thrown into the dungeon: "I guesseth thou art not eft f'r yond - but thy most wondrous great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren shall loveth it" (this is beautifully scored and executed, by the way - absolutely brilliant work)
I want to say that as a non fan of System of a Down that this is the only song of their that I like. This version freakin slaps. You are doing such good things and making the internet... nay the world a better place by having your talent and this content available for us to consume. Thank you.
Dude this is awesome, whats amazing is you get a fell for how modern music stems from these medieval times and beyond. a historical collective full circle.
Awesome! I actually listen to this guy regularly, so I can sing threw the whole song without being crushed by Serj's awesome voice. Thanks for this bud, I mean it. You are great!!! Btw, I see thatvother also have written, we want a whole album pretty please.
SOAD was basically already plugged-in bardcore, you just exposed their true potential in the genre. Excellent work as always
Agreed
100%. Aerials is already one of the best covers Algal has done.
@Nt40 that’s literally what this genre is called lol
yeah they are heavily based in Armenian folk music.
Bardcore! 😂
Who still watching this in 1453?
Mee
Hahahaha...
Underrated comment
Классная шутка 😊
Still here in 1454

Where's the table?
What kind of fable is this?
This man's entire discography just became my D&D playlist
Only just discovered this guy and now I'm just making a tavern playlist of his music.
Wating someone to edit the entire Lord of The Rings trilogy and put this songs...
for real 😂❤
Love how you made the flute have its own beat instead of completely following the lyrics.

I have so much respect for your multi-medieval-instrumentalism!
The flute taking the main melody slaps so SO HARD! Bravo!
The username checks out.
I like how everyone else is all "I'll do a MIDI!" while this guy just casually learned several actual period instruments.
One of my favourite Bardcore artists!
TH-cam: How many more SOAD do you want Algal The Bard to do?
Me: YES
How is TH-cam not recommending this to everybody? This is one of the best SOAD covers ever!
I like that you put in a Duduk part as well, SOAD being an Armenian American band, it's cool to see cover artists referencing their origins!
That’s what I’m saying. I’m an Armenian drummer but I pull out my duduk with my cousins sometimes and we play
Can we all just stop for a moment to appreciate how gifted he is by playing all these different instruments🥁

that's what always captures me in Algal's cover of Toxicity. The sheer force of Armenian traditional motives is overpowering there.
@@fey_wolf6309 isn't that gorgeous as well! so well suited for these type of covers

Same
@@KainYusanagi SOAD members are armenian, which is Caucasus.
@@pepupapi HAH! That's even more fitting.
They would've cut his hands off and set him on fire lol
Sounds epic. Like it was written over 500 years ago. Really enjoy your covers!
"When The Oceans Drank Atlantis..."

I see what you mean. Agreed!
The original song is in fact very melodic. So if you take the disruptive parts off, the ones with crazy rhythm you get the perfect modern or medieval ballad 👌
This could be easily a battle song in a great RPG game!
So many details in this one. The fast-picked bouzouki in the intro giving that distinct balkan feel, an Armenian instrument in the duduk, the addition of the zitherette... Excellent stuff.
Well, as I said to friend "Algal is really good at what he does"
This was really good and I hope that maybe one day he plays "Soldier Side"
Honestly, at this point, i just want a bardcore version of Holy Mountains
soldiers side would be great also
I admire and love how you still do a good ass drop without speeding up
For some reason I listened to Toxicity in the Bardcore style like 30 times this week, so this is certainly a treat! Thank you, my Lord Algal the Bard!
awesome 🤘
I love this. It's a great way to play background music for my players in DnD that's appropriate but also triggers familiarity
This is absolutely amazing! Especially the flute parts, the way you add more of a tune to the vocals and do the harmonization is truly haunting in a good way.
I honestly do wonder what medieval people would think of this haha.
a song worth a king
If you are not playing at my wedding, i'm not coming...
This will be your most-clicked song ever
I'm absolutely loving the duduk in this piece! It blends so well!
Ive listened to this 7 times in a row. It deserves a million views!
That intro is stunning. The chorus sounds damn near Machaut-like.
0:11 I don't know what instrument that is, but it sounds awesome.
Algal's Anachronistic rearrangements continue to delight and astound. You are the soundtrack to my imagination.
Would love to see a medieval mosh pit full of peasants, nobles, and jesters.
One of the best covers I’ve ever heard. 👏
It's incredible how you manage to give that so medieval air to this soad song!
in good time my brother! 🙌🏻🔥
The bard himself knocks it out of the park once again
Algal to the King, as he's being thrown into the dungeon: "I guesseth thou art not eft f'r yond - but thy most wondrous great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren shall loveth it"
(this is beautifully scored and executed, by the way - absolutely brilliant work)
SOAD is pretty much the farthest away as you can be from being easy to, ahem, let's say: algalize. Still, you did it. Excellent job!
You did it again! SoaD is always a good choice. I would love to hear a Fair to Midland cover.
I miss that band so much
@@evelgreytarot8401 I know. I listen to their stuff all the time but wish we had some more!
Agreed, would absolutely love some Fair to Midland bardcore!
fair to midland would be perfect for this!!!!! such a great band
played this song in my car today. loved ur cover of aerials. great stuff!
This sounds like medieval battle/adventure music and I love it
God this is SO fucking good it sounds like it was made for this!!!! 🙏😭💖💖
And you did Chop Suey!! SOAD one of my favorite groups of all time!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
I want to say that as a non fan of System of a Down that this is the only song of their that I like. This version freakin slaps. You are doing such good things and making the internet... nay the world a better place by having your talent and this content available for us to consume. Thank you.

Excelente versión, gracias!!!!
Always pumped to hear another medieval SOAD cover :) Awesome.
This was astounding, so clever and beautiful. I would be like a kid in a candy shop with so many wonderful instruments. Colour me jelly! ❤️🎶❤️
We need this guy to work on the Elder Scrolls VI OST. Just amazing. Good job man! ⚔️
This blew my mind a hell of a lot more than I expected. Absolutely amazing work and def need more of it!
This guy is a brilliant! Listened to all medieval cover artist, but he is way-way ahead of everyone else! 🙌
Isto Aí. Música Boa. Controla e Acalma um pouco ás emoções deste dia estressante e depressivo.
I'm over here subscribing in the vain hope of Algal getting popular enough to truly and totally make this a career so I get much more content
Omg man that is absolutely incredible. Mind blown. Just came across this channel and most definitely hit subscribe!
Fantastic
Thanks to Algal I started to listen to SOAD. Love it !
Офигенный музыкант!
Great musician!
That's SOAD and the Fleur (girl band, with lots of flutes) at the same time. And somehow that's creeps me out in a good sense.
I really appreciate the music You are playing ❤
I love the Irish bouzouki. Its a very modern instrument with a very old sound :D
Love it. The way you translated the harmony of the chorus into the duduk and the high flute is masterful.
Finally the original recording of the old Armenian traditional song SOAD covered has been unearthed!
Totally spot on and awesome yet totally its own thing, you rock in a very calming way!
This is incredible. Wonderful job! I already really enjoyed your D&D content, and this too is speaking directly to my teenage years. :D
I just love the variety of instruments he plays. This is very interesting to listen to. He is so accomplished.❤❤
👏👏 That was absolutely fantastic cover of one of my favourite songs 🥰 Thank you!
Beautiful. What a precious gift to us. Thank you. 🙏
I love how you threw in some Armenian Duduk as well in honor of SOAD. Awesome cover Algal!
Why didst thou leave thy keys upon thy table?
Eres genial, macho. Da gusto escuchar todas tus versiones.
I love your covers!I love Medieval music so this is fantastic! You are so gifted!
Macte virtute! Cogitare possum reactionem Regis cum regina sua et tota aula audientem musicam illam in tempore medii aevi! "Viri, Deus vult!"

BRAVOOOO!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏
Always marvellous covers!
So the first time I heard this was at an Eid celebration back in the day... its so nice to hear this still being played today
I love your flute, respect for what you do.
I am convinced that you can take any song, even those I would not consider remotely medieval, and make it so.
This was amazing! Simply incredible 🤘🏻
This is so Awesome! you put it together incredibly well! i feel like if you had an audience they would definitely all clap like i had to at the end!
Diablo as you're dungeon roaming
