I'm going to try that for a cheap angle grinder we have at our tool library, hopefully it'll work but I fear it might not be as straightforward since it is not a quality brand. Even might try to cap the screw with a 3d printed piece so it looks stock (feeling fancy!) That is a cool and simple fix, thx.

Wow! Very ingenious! Mine is very stiff, something must be blocking it. Such a pain to remove any wire cup brush. You should have cleaned out the gunk though in yours before reassembly. Made it nice and shiny.
Thanks for an excellent DIY fix. What is the name of the pink lube?

I have a makita 9501B and dont have the wrench for it AND it doesnt have a spindle lock.. It was my grandpas and I just recently have busted it out and wanted to change discs

a while ago I made the same arrangement but with the use began to lose grease through the screw hole and stained everything, so cancel it and make a key to hold the shaft and loosen the disc, greetings. Perdon x mi ingles , es muy malo, saludos.-

Would a small washer on the inside help stop the grease coming out? I'm doing this tomorrow on a 9inch grinder.

Good idea. Poor maintenance practice I would have cleaned it properly before installing it back. Build ups will shorten the life of your tools... But then again, it's just me.
